I Won't Let You Down
By ChelseyyVengeance

Hey guys, so I know I've been away forever and a day, but I guess the only reason I truly have for that is that I lost my inspiration for writing, I just couldn't seem to write anything good enough, but fingers crossed that all changes now.

As I'm sure many of you are aware, Hurricane Sandy ripped through New Jersey and New York, and has left most places devastated in the aftermath. This state has become a second home for me, I've met so many families that have come to mean a lot to me, and just receiving a text from them asking if I'm alright has brought a smile to my face. Some places fared worse than others, which breaks my heart, because this is such a beautiful place, and the families that are gonna have to rebuild their lives just didn't deserve it.

New Jersey & New York, I love you, and I will forever be grateful to those families I have come to love for their generosity and support, this place is my home.

I'm writing this little one-shot because I won't be working until at least Saturday, so let me know what you guys think.

Just another grey Autumn day
You're the sunlight trying to break through
No I never imagined that my path would lead to you
A look in your eyes as they met mine
Seem to say we're the same
In so many ways
Though we're worlds apart
I will promise you

I won't let you down
No I won't let you down

There are so many reasons to keep us apart,
But it won't stop me losing
My mind or my heart
would I give
To touch your hand
Oh just feel your skin
I'd breathe you in
Could this ever be
You'll be next to me

No I won't let you down
No I won't let you down

I know myself so well

But I've never been here before
You're just out of my reach
But I will be here
Of that you can be sure
Can be sure

It's another grey autumn day
You're the sunshine trying to break through
I can only imagine that I'm walking with you
I realise if you were mine
We may fall apart
Oh you'd have my heart
There's too many things between you and me

No I won't let you down

No I won't let you down
No I won't, I won't let you down
No I won't let you down
No I won't, I won't let you down

No I won't, I won't let you down
No I won't, I won't let you down
No I won't let you down

I don't know how long I've been in love with her for, but it's been a long time, long enough for me to know that nobody will ever be good enough to replace her. Though she'll never actually be mine, cause she belongs to somebody else, she loves somebody else with the intensity I love her. We went to the same school, we played in the same sand pit, we went to prom together, but she left, she moved away to college, moved to New Jersey whist I stayed in Huntington with the guys. They all know, they know I'm crazy about her, they also know that's why I refuse to propose to my current girlfriend. It's not that I don't care about her, because I do, I really do, she just isn't the one I've envisioned walking towards me.

She came back to Cali a year after she left, with him.
She looked like some kind of goddess with the little blue flower in her hair. Apparently they met at college, as they shared a house together. He wasn't her usual type, she normally went for guys with tattoos, guys who listened to rock. He didn't have a single blotch of ink of his skin, I'd be surprised if he could even name a rock band she liked, but that didn't seem to stop her smiling at him whenever she got the chance.

I'm Matt Sanders, lead singer of the band Avenged Sevenfold, and whilst we may be dominating the music world right now, I'm hiding the fact I've been crazy for the girl I grew up next door to, the girl who was never afraid to tell me when I was being a jerk, or would cry on my shoulder when she had to fly back to England for the holidays.

Which brings us to now, after she finished college, she decided to stay in Jersey with him, Eddie his name is. Anyways, she would call me every Friday, as had been our regular thing since she headed east, every Friday night I would get a phone call, her British accent still prominent even though she'd lived here since she was 5. Today was Friday, and she hadn't called yet, and to say it was almost midnight, I wasn't holding out much hope for her doing so.

I almost jumped out of my skin when my right hand started vibrating violently.

“Hello.” I answered, instantly smiling when that all too familiar voice replied.

“Hey Matty, sorry it's so late, today has just been crazy. Remind me again why I decided to be a doctor?”

“Cause you're the smartest person I know?” I chuckled, smiling at how tired she sounded.

“Well yeah I guess that wasn't gonna be difficult really though was it. Speaking of, how are my boys?” She inquired.

“They're good, we're good. We miss you though, it's been forever since you were here English.”

“I know and believe me I intend to change that, as soon as people stop being sick and I'm not required at the hospital.” She sighed.

I nodded, although I knew she couldn't see me. Damn I missed this voice, but I missed seeing her smiling face a heck of a lot more.

“So how have you been Matty? You and Val still together? She not got sick of your arse yet?”

“Hey! I'm not that bad! Yeah we're still together. How bout you and Eddie?”

“That good to hear! Yeah we're still together, apparently I haven't driven him crazy with my madness yet.” She laughed, before a large amount of giggling broke through the line.

“Eddie, stop tickling me, I'm on the phone dammit! I can't breathe,” She gasped down the phone, my heart becoming conflicted at the fact it wasn't me making her that happy. I had nothing against the guy, other than the fact he held her heart firmly in his grasp and had no intention of giving her up.

“If this is a bad time I can call you back later?” I asked.

“No, Friday is our day Matty, it always has been and always will be.”

“Yeah, forever and always.” I smiled, remembering what she had said the day she left.

“So umm, there's something I've been meaning to tell you. I guess now is as good a time as any.” She spoke.

“You can tell me anything, you know that.”

“I know, okay. I um, I'm getting married Matty, Ed asked me to marry him.” She squealed into my ear. I just didn't know how to react, this was clearly everything she wanted, and everything I didn't.

“Oh wow, congratulations princess! The guys are gonna flip when they find out.”

“Yeah they probably are, especially Jimmy.”

Yeah he's gonna freak! Ermm, look, I'm sorry to cut this short, but I've just remembered I forgot to do something. I'll talk to you soon though.”

“Oh okay, are you alright Matt?” She asked, worry lacing her

“Yeah I'm fine, oh and Chels. Congratulations, he's a lucky guy.”

“Oh I don't know, I think I may be the lucky one in this case.”

I couldn't help but feel angry at that, in my eyes he didn't deserve her, nobody did, nobody would ever be good enough for her, but the reality was, he was. He'd never done anything bad to her, he had a good job, he gave her everything she needed and he loved her undoubtedly.

9 Months Later

The day had come, the day she was getting married, married to him. I had thought about it a lot since the day she told me, our Friday phone calls seized, mainly because I stopped picking up the phone when she called. I don't really know why I stopped answering; I just couldn't bring myself to hear her voice. The guys ripped my ass for it too, because she would call them asking what she did wrong and that broke my heart because she could never do anything wrong.

I wasn't looking forward to this, seeing her in a wedding dress, no doubt looking incredibly breathe taking as usual. She had decided to have her wedding in California, all the people who had come to mean something to her were gonna be here, she had asked me to walk her down the aisle, in many texts and voicemails, of which I never replied, so that duty was passed over to Zack, who after punching me square in the nose had agreed as he knew I wasn't in a hurry to. Things had been pretty fractured between me and Zack since then, I wasn't the only one who would forever hold a soft spot for her, as Zack did too, but apparently he was better at putting it aside than me. Was I being selfish in refusing to give her away? How could I honestly walk her towards the man she would
give herself to completely? I couldn't think of anything worse than that.

The beach house was beautifully decorated with flowers and little quirks I knew were her. I spotted him first, standing outside the house with some of his friends, laughing about something no doubt stupid. I walked over, coughing loud enough for them all to stop before he turned around, still smiling lightly when he saw me.

“Oh, so you turned up then, how nice of you.” He spoke, his voice turning spiteful as he looked at me.

“Excuse me?” I asked, shocked by his brashness.

“What? Has the fact you've completely ignored every phone call she made, or the fact she asked you to give her away slipped your mind?”

“I've been busy, not that it
's any of your business.”

“It's my business when she starts crying cause her `Matty' cuts off all contact with her, she thinks you hate her Matt, and for what? What reason do you have to justify making her feel like she's betrayed you in some way?” He shouted, his voice becoming angrier with every word.

“I-I just couldn't, alright, just leave it would you.” I yelled, before pushing past him and into the front door, her best friend brushing past me before stopping to look at me briefly.

“Nice of you to turn up Matt, good job nobody called you first huh? Not that you'd have answered.” She frowned, before opening the door quickly and disappearing behind it.

I sighed. Why did everyone seem so pissed off at me? So I didn't
answer her phone calls? It's not that big a deal, is it?

When everyone started making their way past me and out towards the garden where the ceremony was due to take place, I started feeling more and more nervous, the guys had arrived long before me, all taking it in turns to go and see the bride to be whilst they had the chance. She had long since become a little sister to both Jimmy and Brian, Johnny didn't know her as well as the rest of us as he had joined the band after she moved. As I moved towards the door I knew she was behind, I took a deep breath before rapping my knuckles lightly on the wooden frame.

“Come in.” Came that voice I'd missed so much.

I coughed before grabbing the handle tightly and twisting.

My jaw became slack when I saw her standing there, her dress being zipped up at the back by Kels, her make-up was done to perfection, the dress itself was breath-taking, her dark brown hair on her head with little wisps framing her face. She looked incredible, better
than I could ever have imagined her looking.

“Matt.” She whispered, her eyes beginning to get watery as she stared at me.

“Chels.” I whispered back, still completely in shock at how beautiful she was right now.

Before I could process anymore words, a sharp pain was felt across my cheek as her hand connected harshly with it.

“You're a dick Matthew Sanders, who in the hell do you think you are to come here after ignoring me for the past 9 months? What in the hell did I do to deserve that?” She shouted.

“I'm sorry, honestly Chels, I'm so, so sorry.”

“Do you think a sorry is good enough? This is meant to be the happiest day of my life, and all I've been thinking about is the fact you weren't gonna be here, that shouldn't be the case Matt and you know it.” She seethed.

I couldn't respond, she had never been this angry at me before, and I hated it.

“I don't know what else to say. I'm a jackass I know. I just-I couldn't
fathom the idea of you marrying someone else.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean? I've been with Eddie for almost 6 years Matt.”

“And I've been in love with you for 18.” I shot back, her mouth dropping open at my words.

“What are you saying?”

“I'm saying I love you. But I know you don't love me, and that's alright, because I'll always be here anyway. We've always been together, and I couldn't
bear for anything to change that. I'm sorry, I know that's never gonna be enough, but I don't know what else to say. Just let me try and prove it. I won't let you down, I'll never let you down”.

At that moment, the door opened and in walked Zack, a proud smile on his face when he saw her standing there, looking radiant.

“You ready beautiful.” He whispered, her eyes leaving me for the first time as she looked over at the green eyed male.

She simply nodded before taking a deep breath and picking up her bouquet.

I realised there and then,
There were too many things between us for us not to be friends, and that was enough for me, I was done letting her down.

Soooooo! I thought I'd switch things up a little a do something with Matt as the lead! Ohh errr!

I know I have a lot of stories that still need updating, and since I'm now back in England, I can work on that in the upcoming weeks. I have a story based around New York that I intend to start writing at some point.

If anyone is still reading this, review?

Thanks muffins.
Much Love
