NOTE FROM THE PRODIGAL AUTHOR
By Annie_Vengeance

I sincerely don't know where to begin. If my math is correct, it's been more than eight months since the last time I updated, and that outrageous amount of time leaves me unable to find the right words to profusely apologize to all of you beautiful readers of this story that are miraculously still out there. So let's try it out with the traditional: I'm so very sorry.

As always, I do have an explanation, although it's probably not good enough to justify such a long absence, but anyways… Since all of you have been so faithful, and have kept on reminding me that you love and miss this story throughout all this time, I feel compelled to tell you the reasons why I stopped writing for so long.

I believe I told you in one of my author's notes that I quitted smoking in October of last year (one year smoke-free so far yay!), and it's been as if that little decision opened the gate to a succession of events that have turned my life upside down completely…

Let's start from the beginning. The first few months of being a non-smoker were very tough, my metabolism got really slow, and I gained a huge lot of weight in a very short period of time. I got really depressed, of course —I've never been slender, but quitting smoking made me the fattest I've ever been, and it was really frustrating, I mean, I do something that's good for me, for my health, and God, instead of praising me, punishes me by making fat?! It was ridiculous… So anyways, my aunt, who happens to be a doctor, took pity on me and introduced me to a friend of hers that happens to be a surgeon… And the best thing that has ever happened to me took place in February: I had bariatric surgery, for free.

For those of you who don't know, bariatric surgery is a series of procedures done in the stomach to help people lose weight. The kind of bariatric surgery I underwent is called “the gastric sleeve”. Translation: I got 85% of my stomach cut out, and now I eat less than half of what a normal human being eats. And so in the last eight months, I have lost around 50 pounds, which means now I look more like Make-Believe Ana, and less like the insecure, low self-esteem Ana that started writing this story. Not to sound vain or anything, but being thin and beautiful for the very first time in my long 26 years has been amazing —not to say a dream come true, and I'm sure those of you who have once been outcasts because of your looks can empathize— and have obviously presented a great amount of changes for me. I've had to modify 26 years of bad eating habits, I now go to gym, I'm much more disciplined and aware, my self-loathing disappeared… And to top it all off, I got an awesome job in April, in an American company that sells natural health products. I'm the director of the design department, and I spend my days making animated videos for direct marketing, banners, web pages, product labels, etc… Which is a damn fun job when you're a designer.

So, long story short: The last eight months I've been super busy with work, while also getting used to my new body, life, and all the positive changes that have come with it, so my head has been else where and I've barely had time to breathe, therefore, my writing has been caught up in the midst of all these new experiences and eventually left in the background… However, not a day goes by that I don't think about my beloved Make-Believe (all of you know that this story is my baby and that it means the world to me), so in the last few months, I've managed to take a little time every other day to sit down and write. The result: The next chapter is FINALLY done.

I once told you that I would finish this story, no matter how long it took me, and I'm keeping my word. I'm sure that I've probably lost and will continue to lose a lot of readers because of the time gap between chapters, but unfortunately, I can't do anything about it. I started writing this story in 2009 for my own personal enjoyment —sharing it and earning such a wonderful response was just an added bonus— so I will keep on writing it, at my own pace, no matter how many people keep on reading it. I'm very grateful though, to each and one of you that have stuck around and will continue to do so.

Bottom line, this author's note is just to let you know that I'm alive, to apologize for the lack of updates, and to deliver some good news: The next chapter will be posted later tonight, or early tomorrow at the latest, so keep your eyes out. It's already finished, I just have to proof read it and add the soundtrack, which will also give you some time to re-read the last few chapters in case you've forgotten what's going on at the moment in the Make-Believe world.

One more thing. I noticed in a couple of reviews that some of you seem to think the story is coming to an end, probably because I said in my last author's note that THIS Book is coming to an end, so I thought I should explain things better. Remember that before posting the first chapter of this story, I posted a sort of introduction to it, explaining that the story would be divided in six books? Well, The next subsection —which will start with this new chapter— will end Book IV, not the whole story. That means that we still have two more Books to go, so don't worry, you'll still have plenty of this story to read before you see its end! :)

Thank you again to those of you who are still out there… I hope to be hearing from you very soon!!

Love,

Ana.
