Scared To Death
By pen_and_ink

This one's for Miss. Gowiththeflow, I hope you like it doll! The song I chose was HIM's Scared To Death, because it's such an awesome song, and thought it would fit the request nicely. You know the rules, review if you read, please. Requests are still being accepted if there's anyone who still wants a one-shot.

Scared To Death

In the biblical sense and sensibility
let me know you
I'll kiss that smile off your face
just say when

She had never been afraid of confronting the facts that were in front of her. She may have been sarcastic and indulged in a dark sense of humor with her friends, but she was also blunt and made sure to get straight to the point every time. That was her intention as she walked down the track of Central Park that led from her house to the center of the park. When she reached the end of her track he was standing there, hands stuffed in the pockets of his denim jacket, a bandana tied around his head while his hat sat sideways on top of his head. His long brown hair poked messily out of the bottom of the hat; quite the contrast to her perfectly placed long and wavy brown locks. Her chocolate brown eyes were boring into him as she approached, and when she finally reached him, she had to look up to meet his gaze.

He smirked at her and she twisted her face into a frown.

“I'll smack the grin right off your face Brian.” She shot.

“Just tell me when,” He chuckled. “I'm ready for it.”

“I'm serious Brian!” She screeched, throwing her hands up in the air for good measure. “Can't you take anything with you and I seriously?!”

He never answered, just stared at her lips as they spat the words out angrily. This was what he had been afraid of, that he wouldn't be able to reciprocate what she felt, and as much as he felt it on the inside, it was bringing those feelings out that scared him half to death.

I'm not afraid to say 'I love you'
any more than I used to be, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love

“You want me to be honest?” He shot back, although not as intimidating as he would have liked.

“What a marvelous idea, why don't you try being honest with me!” She spat.

“I'm fucking scared as all hell Milly!”

Her face softened as his words really sunk in, and while she was scared too, they were both for entirely different reasons.

“What are you afraid of?” She whispered.

“I'm scared to death of falling in love,” He confessed.

“Why?” She asked, genuinely concerned for her boyfriends fear of love.

“Because of my parents.” He confessed, again letting his guard down as she nodded in understanding.

“What are you scared of?” He finally asked after moments of silence.

“I'm…I'm not…” She paused for a moment, afraid of letting him know that behind her strong exterior was a fragile girl cowering from all things not fluffy and happy on the inside.

“Don't lie to me Milly,” He folded his arms, widening his stance in front of her. “Tell me.”

She looked away and tucked a few loose strands of hair behind her ear; it wasn't until she felt his grasp on her wrist that she looked up, letting the lone tear fall from her cocoa colored eyes.

“I'm fucking scared that I'll lose you.” She whispered.

All these pick-up lines from hell
Icebreakers infernal
from a heart
so black and blue
only for you
(just say when, again)

He held her in his arms as he thought back to the moment he had decided Milly was the girl he wanted to be with. They had decided that walking through the woods of Central Park in the middle of the night was a good idea, and while he had portrayed the brave and masculine teen, on the inside he was flipping out. Milly had made it perfectly clear as the neared the center of the woods, flashlights in hand, that she needed to calm her nerves; that's when she took the perfectly rolled up joint from her back pocket and lit it up, taking a long drag before offering it to Brian. Her `I' don't give a fuck' attitude had caused him to fall hard for her, but now he couldn't think that his fear was holding him back.

I'm not afraid to say 'I love you'
any more than I used to be, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love
with you

“Don't be afraid of us Bri,” She whispered, reaching down and lacing her fingers with his. “I'm just as scared of getting hurt as you are.”

“But that's the thing,” He chuckled. “I know I would never hurt you, and that you would never hurt me.”

“Then what is it then?”

“I'm not afraid to tell you I love you, because I do,” He smiled, leaning down to tilt her chin up so she was looking at him. “I love you Milly.”

“But you're afraid of falling in love with the person you love?”

“Because I couldn't stand to lose you.”

I'm not afraid to say 'I love you'
any more than I used to be, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love
I'm not afraid to admit I adore you
any more than I was before, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love
with you

She knew that they would lose each other if they couldn't find a way to get past this fear of hurt and love. She knew that he would lose her if he couldn't trust her enough to completely open his heart and let her in. And she knew that she would lose him if she continually thought that there was some possibility that he was going to hurt her. She wasn't scared to admit how much she loved and adored Brian; and all of that included his messy hair, deep chocolate brown eyes, and thin lopsided grin that he let shine every time she saw him. She wasn't afraid to admit that she could spend countless hours in his arms without saying a word, tracing the patterns of his intricate tattoos while he tangled his calloused fingers in her long brown locks. She wanted to admit it, that she was head over feet in love with Brian Haner.

“I love you!” She suddenly said, looking up into his eyes with a glow in her own that could light the way of a ship in the harbor.

He picked her up and held her in his arms while she wrapped her legs around his waist, her arms securely wrapped around his neck as she buried her face in his musky scented neck.

“I love you so much!” She said, repeating the phrase endlessly.

“I love you too, and I'm not afraid to admit that,” He grinned. “And I want to fall in love with you forever for the rest of my life.”

“You're sweet.” She giggled.

“I do try.” He chuckled, moving her head and leaning forward to capture her lips in a kiss as sweet as poison.

with you...
scared to d
eath...

I'm scared to death..
And you're sweet like poison...
