They all watched as the sky above them disappeared, their wings, fading into ashes with the sky
above them. They watched as the Lord's face disappeared and their eyes closed, as they let the
darkness of the cruel world below consume them...
I'd honestly never believed in the world ending on us. It just didn't seem, logical. But if it did,
there would be nothing to stop it... People could predict it, believing in scientists who put their
faith into that exact thing, science.
But science could be wrong, proven wrong... The world wasn't flat, it wasn't that you could just
fall of the edge and disappear for eternity, it's round. Or at least that's what it looks like in
the pictures. My Ipod switched to 'The Art of Subconscious Illusion' as I began to hum to the
lyrics. I felt someone tap my foot, I looked up and saw my teacher standing in front of me, he
dropped the five pound textbook into my lap and I doubled over to the floor.
The class busted into laughter.
"As I was saying Miss. Foster, as the Egyptians believed that their would be second life, or
reincarnation. That the mummy's would need a second skin or clothing of some sort, to remake their
appearance, what did the video do wrong? I mean, if you were paying attention." he spoke.
"The buried him in clothes, not in toilet paper." I retorted.
The class snickered, as so did my twin beside me. I sat up and handed the book back to him.
"I think you'll be needing back that book now if you really want to teach us something worth
listening to." I said sticking my ear buds back in.
I leaned back and closed my eyes. I felt my twin nudge me and I looked down, a white lined piece of
paper folded with a pencil next to it. I opened it up.
'Have you figured out if you were doing everything right?' Rae asked.
'I assume so, it said today. But so far, the old man hasn't died yet...'
Rae and I stared at the teacher, waiting. She watched as a bead of sweat formed on his forehead, he
wiped it away and coughed a little, but it formed again and so did the cough, this time he coughed
louder, and harder. Then it didn't stop. His face began to turn red as he fell to his knees. The
class hurried around him, trying to find what was wrong. Then his face began to turn purple, his
eyes began to roll back into his head, it was almost as if he was chocking, but the coughing never
stopped. Then he just stopped moving and breathing, he just lay there on the floor. Someone reached
around to his wrist.
"He's dead?" she spoke.
Rae glanced at me.
"Evalynn, I think you're right..."
"I think I am too." I spoke in fear.
What are we talking about you ask? Well you see, we stumbled upon something, something we'd rather
never come across again, but it spoke to us. All the numbers.
'I began sketching the tattoo for Rae and I that we'd end up doing ourselves. I sketched the guys
birthday then noticed something unusual...
"Rae?" I asked.
She turned her direction towards me, I showed her the sketch she looked at me funny.
"Do you not see it?"
Evalynn added, the two ones out of the birthday, put the nine at the end and flipped the eight over
on it's side... Then her face went blank.
"Oh my God, that looks like... How the fuck did you make 1981 look like 2009?"
"I don't know..."
Then another idea popped into my head, I did our birthday. Halloween, getting another date. It made
"Oh my god..."
Then the list continued...'
The medics were called and our class was dismissed. We walked home and went up to our bedroom.
"He's dead, and we knew..." Rae said.
I had already been digging in my desk drawer by the time she said this.
"Yeah, and I think someone else dies tomorrow..." I said skimming down the list.
"We have to tell them..." Rae said.
"And what screw up the natural order of things? Rae, we're probably already going to hell anyways.
That's not gonna make it any better!"
"Why are you always worried if you'll end up in hell or not?"
"Because I don't feel like being tortured for eternity."
"Gee's lighten up a bit, will ya? I'm just trying to make humor of this day somewhat."
"Yeah, well it's funny when you're talking to your teacher, and he dies all of the sudden and you
knew he was going to die..." I stated.
"Why are you so uptight?" Rae asked.
"Because, I just am..."
"You're like mom..."
"Yeah, I know. You and dad have both said that..."
Rae smiled. I didn't.
"Something else is bothering you."
"I think I figured out our beloved bands death days too..." I spoke quietly.
"When... When's Johnny's?" Rae asked, all emotion faded from her face.
She looked at the date with sadness.
"It's too young... He can't die that soon..."
"Matt too?" she asked looking at the paper.
"I could be wrong though."
"Our History teacher died today, I'm pretty sure you're no where near wrong anymore..."
"But I also figured out something else... It starts with the months, but it writes out another
"Isn't that like Matthews in the bible."
"Uh oh? Uh oh's never good with you..." Rae said.
I got up and walked downstairs to the den, I opened the bible and flipped through.
"Here... I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at
the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the subjects of the kingdom
will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
"That sounds like the Rapture..."
Then all color drained from my face.
"I have a bad feeling about all of this..."
