The bus was late the next morning and I was nearly late to school. After first period, I found Brian
in the hallway. He smiled when he saw me.
“Hey, Brian. You told me to remind you of something you wanted to give me,” I said.
He smirked, “Oh, yeah. Don't worry. I'll give it to you later.”
“I'm really curious as to what it is,” I admitted.
He laughed, “Just be patient. You'll see.”
He winked at me before walking off to his class. I was just in time for my health class. At lunch I
fell down on the seat next to Taylor's and she looked up.
“What's the rush?” she asked.
“I seem to be almost late to everything today,” I told her.
She smiled, “Any specific reason?”
“No, it just happens. Hey, I wanted to ask you. What's going on between you and my
brother?” I asked.
“Nothing. Chase and I don't have a lot of classes together,” she tried moving around the
“I'm talking about you and Dustin,” I said.
She avoided my gaze, “I don't know what you're talking about.”
I laughed, “Taylor, I know you. I know you're lying. I saw you guys together at the beach
yesterday. What's going on between the two of you?”
She blushed, “Uhm… Well, you know I always found your brother drop dead
“Yesterday I went by your house looking for you, but you weren't there and then Dustin invited
me to the beach,” she explained.
“Oh, okay. So there isn't anything going on between you?” I checked.
“No, at least, not yet anyway,” she grinned, making me laugh.
As much as I was almost late to everything that day, I was definitely late for the bus and missed
“Hey, Stascha!” I heard someone call and turned around to see Zacky walking towards me.
“I missed the bus,” I sighed.
“Oh, that sucks. You can catch a ride with me if you want,” he said.
I started laughing, “You're not serious.”
He chuckled, “Not at first, but it's not a bad idea.”
“You're right, it's a terrible idea. You only have a skateboard,” I pointed out.
He thought about it for a while.
“It could work,” he finally said.
“No way,” I said definitely, starting to walk. “I'll walk with you.”
“Just give it a shot,” he urged.
“Both of us can't go on that thing!” I insisted. “How on earth are you going to
“The same way I always do, now come on,” he said, pulling me closer.
He got on his skateboard and then I got up in front of him. I wrapped my arms tightly around him,
afraid of falling.
He chuckled, “Relax. Just trust me.”
And then we slowly started moving. I shut my eyes, because this was the craziest idea ever. It felt
like forever before we reached my house. To my surprise, we didn't fall down once. As soon as he
stopped in front of my house, I jumped off the skateboard.
“You are crazy!” I stated and he laughed, “It wasn't that bad.”
I looked at him for a second and then something hit me. I had been holding on to him the entire time
and didn't even realize it. My entire stomach fluttered at the thought of being that close to him. I
shook my head.
“Next time I'll just walk with you.”
He laughed, “Are you sure?”
I looked at him slightly flustered, “Yes.”
“So you're going to tell me that you didn't like being that close to me?” he asked.
“You're confusing me, Zacky Baker!” I stated. “I have no idea what you're on
“There's nothing to be confused about. What don't you get?” he asked coming closer to
“Everything and nothing. Please enlighten me,” I said confused as to what he was doing.
“Okay,” he said, coming even closer to me.
Before I knew it, his lips were pressed against mine and I swear he could hear my heart pounding in
my chest. This was so unreal.
“Goodbye, Anastacia,” he smirked, getting back on his skateboard and moving off.
I swallowed, unable to believe that that just happened. I pretty much floated into the house and up
to my room. I sat down on my bed and only then did it hit me. I wasn't dreaming. My face cracked
into a huge grin. I heard a knock on the door and went to answer it.
“Hey,” Brian said as I opened the door.
“Brian, this is a surprise.”
“Uhm… Yeah, I just came over to give you that thing,” he said.
I had completely forgotten about it after what just happened with Zacky. I looked at him
expectantly. Suddenly he lowered his head, crashing his lips to mine. My eyes grew wide before I
closed them again and kissed him back. I could feel him smiling into the kiss as he wrapped his arms
around my waist and deepened the kiss. When he pulled away, I was breathless.
“I'll see you tomorrow,” he said with a smirk, turning around and heading down the
steps, back to his house.
I was stunned. Surely I was losing it. Both Zacky and Brian, best friends, kissed me in a matter of
half an hour. I had to call Taylor. It's about time I told her about the guys. I all but ran up to
my room, slightly slamming the door shut behind me and fell down on my bed, dialing Taylor's number.
“Hey, Stasch,” she greeted cheerily.
She laughed, “Yeah, it's me. What's up? You sound out of breath.”
“I am,” I said, still feeling my stomach turn in excitement.
“Mind explaining to me why,” she said.
I sighed, “It's a long story, but yes, I am going to explain it to you, because I need your
advice. You remember that I told you that Zacky and I help each other with schoolwork?”
“Well, you always thought he was some kind of nerd…”
“Well, yeah, it's not exactly every guy who would help you with schoolwork,” she
“Not what?” she asked confused.
“He's not a nerd. On the contrary, he's drop dead gorgeous,” I stated.
“And you're only telling me this now???” she exclaimed. “Wait, but why are you
telling me this now?”
“Uhm, I haven't told you, but the first time I saw him was that day you dragged me to the
beach, the day before school started. Anyway, I like him…”
“Aw, Stasch! That is so cute!” she exclaimed.
“Wait, the story is far from finished,” I told her.
“Oh, sorry. Okay?” she said curiously.
“His best friend, Brian, is my next door neighbor,” I continued to explain. “We
met after I went with Zacky one day to hang out with his friends. The point is we've gotten close
There was a short silence before she spoke, “It's them you were at the beach with
I nodded even though she couldn't see.
“Yeah, their entire group of friends went to the beach and the guys invited me along,” I
“Okay, let me see if I've got this straight. You met Zacky when school started and the two of
you became close. He introduced you to his best friend, who happens to be your next door neighbor,
and the two of you have also gotten close,” she said.
“The world is a strange place,” she suddenly stated and I didn't understand. “What
happened to not wanting a boyfriend? Now you like two guys and you want my advice.”
“Not exactly,” I said, nibbling my lower lip.
“There's more?” she gasped.
“Today Zacky sort of walked me home and then he kissed me…”
I heard her squeal in excitement.
“A few minutes after he left, Brian showed up at my door and also kissed me,” I
“Oh fuck,” I heard her mutter.
“Do you see the predicament I'm in?”
“Stasch, this is bad. You're about to come between two best friends,” she told me.
“I know!” I said. “I don't want to.”
She sighed, “Unfortunately it's too late now. They both obviously like you and it probably
won't change soon. Choosing one won't help, because the other would still be hurt.”
“Taylor, I need advice. What should I do?” I asked slightly pleadingly.
“I honestly don't know. Just, wait and see what happens. Maybe nothing will come of it. Who
knows? Maybe things work out,” she said.
“Don't worry about it just yet,” she said.
“Bye. I hope you have sweet dreams,” she said, a teasing tone to her voice.
“Oh, I'm sure I will,” I grinned.
“Stasch, hold on for a second,” she said hurriedly.
“Well, now that you were honest with me, there's something I have to tell you,” she
“I'm listening,” I said cautiously.
“Dustin and I also kissed today,” she blurted out.
My eyes grew wide, “What?”
“I'm sorry,” she said. “It just happened. It won't happen again.”
I started laughing, “Taylor, relax. It's okay. I think I sort of expected it.”
“What?” she said surprised.
“Why else would you hang out if you weren't interested in each other? And I know you've been
crushing on my brother for a long time now.”
I could imagine her grinning on the other end.
“So it's okay? You don't have a problem with us?” she checked.
“No, I don't as long as you behave in front of me though,” I stated.
She laughed happily, “Don't worry about it. Thanks. I'll see you tomorrow.”
“Bye,” I said, hanging up.
