Hayley and I were walking to the place where everyone else would be for break. We just talked about
things that happened during school that morning. I was still in mid-sentence when Hayley walked into
“Watch it!” the girl spat.
It was the girl I had bumped into twice that first day of school.
“Oops,” Hayley said sarcastically.
“Excuse me, but what is your problem?” the girl wanted to know.
“Honestly?” Hayley asked with her hands on her hips. “You are!”
The girl looked at her confused.
“I don't even know you,” the girl pointed out.
“Of course you do! I'm the girl you dissed a few days ago. You insulted my boyfriend.”
“No sense of humor? That's sad,” the girl said dryly.
I grinned at that and she turned to me.
“You and your girlfriend make quite a bad habit out of walking into me,” she said with a
slight smile turning to me.
“Hell no! She's not my girlfriend,” I assured her.
“He's my brother,” Hayley mumbled.
The girl looked at me wide-eyed, “Oh, shame.”
“You bitch!” Hayley snapped.
“Okay, okay,” I said, stepping in front of Hayley. “That's enough. Let's
“I don't think so!” she said loudly. “Someone's got to tell this girl where she
belongs.” Hayley turned to the girl. “I don't know who you are or who you think you are,
and I don't care, but you don't own the school! You're new here so you might want to learn a few
things before you try to take over, okay?”
I frowned at her and turned around to the other girl.
I knew Hayley was going to attack me within a few split seconds, but I had to try and do something
about the situation and keep her from strangling this girl, who was laughing her ass off at my
“Brian, do you mind?!” Hayley snarled.
“I do. You're being a bitch. Just drop it, okay?” I said sternly.
“Listen to your big brother,” the girl agreed.
I could have sworn that Hayley's face turned a really dark shade of red at that moment and if it
were possible, smoke would be coming out of her ears or her head would have exploded.
“What's going on here?” a guy with hair equally black to the girl's asked coming closer.
“Oh, it's nothing. I was just talking to Brian and his little sister,” she told him,
putting emphasis on the little.
I smiled at her and she smiled back.
“Okay,” he said, slipping his arm around her waist, and I assumed that he was her
“See you around,” the girl said before the two of them walked off.
“You're an asshole,” Hayley muttered angrily, as she stalked off ahead.
I chuckled, running after her.
I was over at Zacky's house again and we were doing algebra again. It was a daily torture we were
going through, because Mrs. Canavan didn't joke around when handing out homework. She seemed to try
to kill us with it. We had been busy for about half an hour when Zacky's phone rang. He pulled it
from his jeans' pocket and answered it.
He listened before talking again, “I'm sorry, I can't. I'm busy at the moment.”
He looked at me as the person on the other end spoke again.
“It's Brian,” he told me. “Everyone's over at Jimmy's house and they want me to
go,” he explained to me and I nodded, “You can go if you want to.”
“Hey, Bri, like I said, I'm kind of busy. Yeah, I'm helping Stascha with…”
“Who all is there?” he asked.
He smiled, “Okay, okay. We'll be there in half an hour or so.”
I looked at him questioningly after he hung up.
“You are more than welcome to come along. We'll just finish up here and then head over
there,” he smiled.
“Uhm, I don't even know your friends. It's okay, we don't have to waste any more time here.
I'm sure I can figure the rest out myself. You can go,” I told him.
“Nonsense,” he said voice full of conviction. “We're going to finish the last of
our algebra and then you're coming with me. You have to meet everyone sooner or later.”
I sighed, “Alright, alright. I give in.”
We quickly finished the last of the math and then we started for Jimmy's house.
“You don't have to worry about being alone with all of us, because the girls are all there
too,” he said as we walked.
“You know Scotty and then there's Matt's girlfriend, Adrienne, and well, that's it,” he
informed me. “Sometimes Brian's sister Hayley is there too, but not today though. I assume
that she's probably over at her boyfriend's place. Serena is also with Pete. Normally the two of
them also hang out with us.”
Zacky knocked on the front door and it immediately swung open.
“We didn't think you were coming anymore,” Jimmy chirped. “Well, hello there,
Anna,” he grinned at me.
“I told Brian in half an hour or so,” Zacky said.
“Yeah I know, but it's been more than an hour,” Jimmy pointed out.
“We were busy with homework,” he replied.
“Whatever,” Jimmy grinned. “So, are you Zacky's new girlfriend?” he asked
I slightly blushed at the thought, “No, he's just helping me with algebra.”
He laughed heartily, putting his arm around my shoulder and walking towards the living room where
everyone else was, Zacky following close behind.
“Hey, Anna,” Scotty smiled when she saw me.
“Hey there,” everyone else smiled.
“It's about time you showed up,” Brian said to Zacky.
“Shut up, Brian,” Jimmy told him. “Everyone, this is Anastacia. Hon, this is
everyone. The guy with the big mouth and short spiky brown hair is Brian, the blonde girl with blue
streaks is Adrienne, and the big burly guy over there is Matt. Oh, and the dwarf's name is
I smiled a little self-consciously, “Hi.”
Everyone came over to meet me.
“Jimmy, we're going to raid the kitchen for something to eat,” Brian called over
everyone's heads before he, Matt and Zacky disappeared to the kitchen.
“I'm Adrienne,” a girl with light hair and blue streaks smiled at me. “I'm Matt,
or, as Jimmy introduced him, the big burly guy's, girlfriend. Welcome to our crazy family.”
“I don't know if I'm part of the family,” I said uncomfortably.
“I have news for you. You are. You seem to be friends with Zacky and now that you've met
everyone and they've accepted you, you are a part of the family,” she informed me.
“How do you know that they've accepted me?” I asked uncertainly.
“Trust me,” she smiled. “You're still here right and they haven't been rude or
anything. Believe me, if they didn't like you, you'd know it, because they'll tell you straight
I chuckled, “Okay, then I better stay in their good graces then for my own safety.”
“I didn't know that you know Zacky,” Scotty said joining us.
“We met last week when school started,” I explained. “And he's been helping me
with my algebra.”
“What a sweetheart old Zacky,” Adrienne smiled.
“He is a really nice guy,” Scotty agreed. “You're lucky to have him.”
“I don't… have him,” I pointed out awkwardly.
“Well then you should go for it,” Adrienne urged.
“Don't be silly,” I said blushing.
“Why not?” she wanted to know.
Scotty laughed, “Stop pestering the poor girl. She's obviously not interested in him.”
“Okay, okay,” Adrienne chuckled. “I just thought I could play match maker, because
they'd make a cute couple, don't you think?”
I blushed even more furiously at her comment and hurriedly excused myself. I started towards the
kitchen, but stopped outside the door when I heard the guys talking about me.
“She's the girl from the beach,” Zacky told them.
“The hottie in the polka dot bikini?” Matt asked.
I assume that Zacky must've nodded or something because the next thing I heard was Brian's outburst,
“She is, whether you believe it or not,” Zacky insisted.
“When you guys look at her you see,” Zacky started then sighed. “I don't even know
what you see.”
“Mouse hair,” Brian said.
“You should look deeper than all of that,” Zacky told them. “See what's behind the
“Dude, I tried, but her lenses were too thick,” Matt said seriously, before him and
Brian burst out laughing.
Zacky chuckled too, “You guys are asses. Would you try to be nice? Don't make these smart ass,
“He's right,” Brian agreed. “We are being jerks. Of course we'll be nice.”
“Yeah,” Matt agreed. “We were only joking.”
I turned around and walked straight into Jimmy.
“Whoa there, squirt,” he laughed, holding on to my shoulders to keep me on my feet,
since I was a lot smaller than him.
“Would you like something to drink, because it doesn't seem like anyone is taking care of
you,” he said.
“Sure,” I said, following him into the kitchen.
The guys were still talking as we entered, but it seemed that they had changed the subject. I didn't
mind that Matt and Brian were only seeing my pale blonde hair and glasses. I was used to people only
seeing that. I didn't take it personally anymore. I was just glad that they were going to give me a
