So Far Away
By Revenge

A young man stood in his bathroom preparing himself for his nights rest in his bedroom. He grabbed pills from his medicine cabinet, slipped them into his mouth and swallowed. He made a slight face of disgust as the dryness clung to his throat slightly. He turned the faucet on and drank some water. After turning it off he walked to his bedroom, flicking the lights off. He dove into his bed and smiled, snuggling under his blankets. The house was cold and he longed for the warmness of his blankets. He smiled snuggling into them, then shifting finding more comfort on his side. He stared into the darkness of his walls and sighed. He shut his eyes slowly, but they quickly opened when he heard the sound of a creek.

He sat up quickly and peered around his room. Nothing, just the darkness of his room. He sighed softly, then laid back down closing his eyes. He felt a light musk breath hit the top of his lip. He froze in place, feeling the breath still there. He shot his eyes open, to see a figure lying next to him. He stared intently at it, eyes widening in horror. He began to slowly scootch away from it, until he fell of his bed with a soft yelp. He sat up quickly to look, and found the creature gone. He sighed a bit and looked around unsure. He shook his head getting up.

It must be the sleeping pills...he thought to himself. But yet he felt no touch of being tired. He stood in his bedroom puzzled as to where this being went, but shook it off and walked into the hallway towards the living room.

These pills are shit, why am I not tired? He questioned to himself. He walked into his living room flicking the light on, sitting down onto his couch, while turning the tv on with the remote. He began to watch TV drifting into the slumber he'd been awaiting.

The following morning, he awoke to the sun's bright rays shining upon his pale face. He stretched his long arms out and sighed. He smiled looking around his home. Quiet...he pouted his lips, it was quiet. He looked to find his TV was off. He made a face.

I must have turned it off...He said to himself, but stared into the TV's reflection. He shrugged then got up and began to walk to his room quietly, but felt a sudden whisk of air blow right in front of him. He gasped lightly, and looked around his brows furrowing. He pursed his lips slightly, the room seemed to have gotten brighter. He shook his head and continued to make his way down the hall, he felt more breezes go past him, and through him. He stopped and looked around confused as he began to hear whispering. He whimpered lightly covering his ears, shaking his head.

“Whats going on!!” He screamed as loud as he could, but the voices seemed to over power his yell. He ran down to his room, a flash screened into his eyes, a flash from a camera. He stared into his room, a crime scene. He saw himself lying on his bed, comfortable. All around he saw investigators taking pictures, measurements, putting tape everywhere. Grabbing his belongings. He looked around confused.

“Hey! Stop! What are you doing!?” He yelled to one of the investigators as he grabbed one of his notebooks. He looked down his hall, to see even more of them. Not one of them familiar to him. Nothing seemed to make sense to him. He ran down his hall to look at his living room where he saw investigators watching the Channel Four News. On the TV, he saw his house. He looked around, and saw his friend being questioned by an investigator. He looked sad, his eyes swollen, dried tear marks flowing down his face. He ran towards his friend.

“Matt! Fuck! Whats going on?!” He yelled to his friend, but it seemed he could not hear him. He frowned.

“Matt please tell me you hear me!! Please!!” He sobbed softly grabbing his friends shoulder, Matt looked towards his touch, then around. Then back at the investigator.

“Sorry, I thought somebody touched me.” Said Matt and continued to be questioned by the officer.

His friend cried lightly and looked around, as a black bag and stretcher was being brought in. He followed after them quickly. “Please!! Somebody!! Can anyone hear me!!!” He cried out. He walked to his bed room to see them lifting his own body into the bag. He frowned tears flowing down his face, he ran back down the hall frantic towards Matt, eloping his arms around him.

“Matt!! Please!!” He yelled frightened.

Matt was taken a back by the sudden feel, but looked around then at himself. Then at the officer,

“Will that be all officer?” Asked Matt, still feeling long arms wrapped around him.

“Yes thank you.” The investigator walked away.

Matt stared down at himself then sighed and shook his head.

“I must be going crazy for thinking I can still feel you here Jimmy.” He cried lightly and wiped his eyes.

“Matt!! I still am!!” Yelled Jimmy hugging his friend tightly, then letting go to look at him. Matt looked around at all the investigators, the house no longer felt like a warm and fun place, it felt like a cold set on Law and Order. He frowned and began to leave.

“Matt!!” Yelled Jimmy beginning to follow after, until he felt a soft touch to his shoulder, he looked to it quickly to see the creature from last night. But it didn't seem to hold the sad and scary feel to it. It held a sincere and sorry feeling to it. The creature smiled showing pearly whites.

“James, lets go now. Your time is done here.” Said the creature, smiling at Jimmy. Jimmy stared at it sad.

“I can't leave my friends...my family...” He whispered.

“It's the way it works, now lets go.” Said the creature calmly, holding Jimmy by the shoulder softly.

“I wont go... I cant... I have to come back, I need to visit them...Please” Asked Jimmy crying softly.

“I suppose, we can allow it. But you must come now. You'll get plenty of time to visit later on.” Said the creature. Jimmy nodded his head. The creature smiled and walked towards the door with Jimmy, the outside no longer holding reporters cars and streets, but a white light. They walked into it, where now Jimmy lies. In that white light we will all walk to sooner or later. And every so often, does Jimmy walk out that white light, to visit his loved ones.
