Chapter Two
By hellovengeance

“This is a nice place.” Lacey said sitting down on the bar stool, Johnny sitting next to her.

“Hell yeah!” Jimmy agreed taking a box of the Chinese food and starting to eat it. “Who's your neighbor?” he said, his mouth full of rice. Leana raised her eyebrow and Jimmy smiled widely, then opening his mouth promptly showing all of the chewed up food.

“Gross!” Leana yelled covering his mouth with her hand.

“A girl named Kassy. She's really quiet.” Val said getting plates from the kitchen. She grabbed all of the food placing it into bowls. “How's the record coming along?”

“Almost done. It'd be nice if Brian didn't fuck around all the time. Dick.” Zack rolled his eyes. “Bugs the shit out of me when you fuck with your guitar.” Earlier today, Brian was sitting down in front of the soundboard holding a piercing note until Zack couldn't take it anymore and left the room.

“Fuck you.” Brian sang flipping off Zack. “You just can't handle me.”

“It's going to be a while until we're going to be done. It's going to be tough to top City of Evil but we're going to incorporate some other stuff.” Matt shrugged. “We just have to mix it up a little bit.”

“This is going to make us fucking famous! Well even more than we already are.” Jimmy said after he finished stuffing his face. The rest of the night, they all stayed at Matt's house until midnight, then they all left. Matt was cleaning off the table when Val's hand fell on his shoulder. He turned and gave a small smile, sighing in relief when Val began to help him.

“I'll see you later Matt.” She kissed him on the cheek before she left. Matt walked outside to make sure Val got home safe when he heard Kassy crutching her way down stairs. She was wearing short white shorts that showed off her tan legs and a black tank top.

“Did we keep you up?” he asked feeling bad.

“Nah, you're good.” Kassy said glancing up at him. She wasn't going to lie and say her new neighbor didn't intimidate her. He looked familiar but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She blushed when she noticed he was shirtless, his tattoos standing out in the moonlight. She studied his face, her eyes freezing on his lip ring, and he gave her a small smile. “I'm sorry I didn't catch your name.”

“Matthew Sanders, but everyone calls me Matt or Shads. Have you lived here for a while?” he said glad the conversation wasn't awkward.

“Yeah, about two years or so. This was originally my friend Holly's house but she changed it into two separate apartments.” She shrugged finally pulling her eyes away from his lip then his eyes. They were the color of butterscotch and she loved them. “You seem familiar.”

“Well, I play for Avenged Sevenfold.” He said hesitantly, waiting for Kassy to start freaking out asking for an autograph, making him want to move out in irritation. There was nothing worse then crazy obsessed fans.

“Oh, that's pretty cool, I remember your first album, Sound of the Seventh Trumpet.” She smiled leaning against the banister for her stairs. “I think you guys are pretty good. Your band falls into my genre. I'm pretty sure my dad shot your band a few times.”

“Wait… your dad was Scott Angel?” Matt said shocked. “Holy shit!”

Scott Angel was absolutely legendary in the music business, he was known as the best photographer in the music industry. But he was murdered the same time Dimebag Darrell was during the concert in Texas.
Then it hit him when he recognized Kassy's name. She was one of the world's renowned models for most of Val's women magazines. She was highly popular but dropped off at the sudden death of her father. He vaguely remember Val telling him that the magazines ripped her apart spreading rumors that she turned to alcohol and drugs at the news of her fathers death resulting in the reason for her early retirement. Bunch of crap and the magazines did everything to rip her down.

“Yup.” She said giving a melancholy smile. She looked so sad, Matt wanted to hold her close. He froze and narrowed his eyebrows at the feeling. “Well anyways, are you guys on a break or what?”

“We're recording a new album.” Matt shrugged “We just got off of tour.”

“That's pretty awesome! I remember when my dad used to help Pantera out a bit. It's a hell of a lot of work if I remember correctly.” Kassy smiled, her teeth perfect and white. She shifted on her leg and grimaced in pain.

“So how did you hurt your leg?” he motioned towards the cast that went up her thigh.

“Car accident.” She grimaced. “Drunk driver crashed into me unfortunately. Another week and this thing will be off. Then I get to wear a boot for a month. No more ballet for me hahaa.”

“Wow. That shit sucks. I hope you're going after the guy.” He cringed. “I can't believe the shit that happens. Well if you need help with anything and I'm here, don't be afraid to ask.”

“Thanks.” She blushed. Matt leaned up against the railing a few feet across from her. She eyes trailed over his chest, his tattoos very attractive to her. “Well, I better get back up. I just had to let my dog in.”

“What kind of dog do you have?”

“A chocolate lab who's is a pain in the butt right now.” She giggled turning her body to crutch her way up. “I'll see you later Matt. `Night.”

He started walked in and was pushed into by a large black lab whom darted out of her door, who sniffed him. “Sorry… Caleb!” Caleb perked his head up and looked up at her obediently. “Bed. You can come in if you'd like. Just to apologize for my dog's insane behavior.”

“Wow, my dog Bella never listens to me.” Matt chuckled. He looked at her apartment, which was decorated tastefully with leather and colors of purple, grey, red and black. He sat down on her couch and Caleb sat down next to him, looking at him with big brown eyes.

“Ptch, my dog only listens to me when food is in the deal. Would you like a slice of devil's food cake? I made it tonight.” Kassy said holding out a slice of the cake for him. He took it and put it in his mouth, his taste buds exploded with flavor.

“Wow, this is amazing.” Matt exclaimed, shoveling more of the food in his mouth. Kassy chuckled and sat across from him, eating her own piece of cake. “So, what do you do?”

“Just dabble into photography.” She shrugged. “Not major stuff, just shoot modeling and occasional gigs here and there. I try and stay out of the limelight I assume at this point you already know the fictitious stories. I can assure you that I do not do drugs but do enjoy the occasion beer here an' there.”

“Well I do know that the pap had something to do with your disappearance. I can't believe some of the shit people will say.” Matt said gauging her reaction. Kassy gave a bitter smile and clenched her jaw looking onto the peaceful settings of the beach.

“I know. There's a reason why I don't even want to go out because all that happen is you get scrutinized, asked if you need to go to rehab or some other bullshit! I hate the fame! I never want to get back into it.” She said cynically. Matt was taken back by the coldness and hatefulness that seeped into her words. “It's the reason Dime was killed and my father happened to be in the same area. Fame doesn't come without a steep price.”

“I don't blame you. Going through a divorce is already heard enough as it is but trying to keep it a secret is gong to be even harder.”

“Wow. How old are you?” she asked tilting her head to the side. He seemed way to young to already go through a divorce.

“Twenty- four. Val and I are better off as friends.” He said smiling to himself. Saying it out loud felt different and for once he felt like he could move on and things would work out. “What about you?”

“Jeeze, so you lost your father pretty early.” Mat grimaced. That meant she had to have lost her father when she was twenty, entirely to young to lose a family member, especially one that close. “That's pretty fucked up.”

“Yeah. But there was nothing I could do.” She said giving a small but sad resentful smile. “So, Mr. Sanders, you are more then welcome to come over whenever you like. I tend to make more food then necessary.” She laughed and Matt could only stare, practically hooked at her voice. She was a breath of fresh air and he was definitely going to come over more often. He stood up and went to grab his dish to put it in her kitchen when she got up and placed a hand on his forearm.

“Don't worry about it.” She walked him to the door and he turned. “Have a goodnight, Matt.” She said warmly.

“Yeah.” He managed to say, mentally hitting himself for sounding so stupid. She gave a small chuckle and quirked her head.

“Phone?” She held out his hand giving him a smile. “If you ever need to talk about something you can call me.”

She entered her phone number handing the blackberry.

“Goodnight.” He walked down the stairs to his apartment and fumbled for his phone, dialing the number. He heard her phone ring and she answered it.

“Hello?” her soft voice came through.

“Just making sure I didn't get a reject number or something like that.” He mumbled sheepishly.

I couldn't give you a fake number now, Matt. You live right below me.” She laughed. Matt smirked.

“Well, goodnight.” Matt said chuckling.

'Night.” She said back and the phone line went dead. Matt smiled and then threw his phone on the couch, patting Bella on the head. He took a shower and went to bed, his dreams filled with a grey-eyed brunette.

He woke up with a foot nudging him on the side.

“Is he awake?” he heard Jimmy's voice from his side. “I think we should dump water on him.”

“Fuck off.” Matt mumbled sitting up. He looked up to see Jimmy raising his eyebrows up at him. “Yes?”

“You're fucking grouchy in the fucking morning.” Jimmy whined. “I just saw a hot girl walk up stairs, and we all thought you'd like to know, she hot. She looks familiar…”

“No shit Jimmy.” Matt yawned getting out of bed. “That's my neighbor. What are you fucks-”

“Hahaa! It's like the girl next door except she's right above you. Nice.” Zacky said wiggling his eyesbrows. Matt chuckled and got up to check his phone.

“How did you get in my house?” Matt asked, the fact that they were in his house that was locked finally hitting him.

“Val gave us all a copy of your key.” Jimmy shrugged waving the key in front of his face. Matt turned to see all the guys sitting on his couch with McDonalds in their hands. “Where's Brian?”

“Brian's looking for a parking spot. It's a bitch here.” Zack said drinking from the coffee cup.

Matt rolled his eyes and opened the door to let Bella out. He saw Kassy grabbing the mail out of the mailbox.

“You have the largest, tallest, scariest looking people in your house. If I didn't know you guys were all nice I'd be scared as hell.” Kassy turned when she saw Matt standing next to her.

She had her hair piled up in a bun, brown tendrils falling down to frame her face. She wore black frame glasses that made her look like a sexy secretary, making Matt gulp. Wearing a big Metallica shirt that went to her mid thigh and sweatpants, she still managed to look gorgeous.

“Nah, I've known them since I was six. They're the best people to be around. Trust me.” Matt smiled at her. Kassy laughed and looked past him to see the tall one with his head peeking out the door.

“I'll take your word for it.” Kassy said shifting her weight on the crutches.

“You want to meet them?” Matt asked, jerking his head towards the door. “I promise you won't die. Come on.” Kassy sighed, faux annoyance, and crutched her way to the front of his house. Jimmy stepped out and gave a huge smile towards Kassy.

“Hello.” He chirped. He easily towered over her by almost a foot and her eyes widened. “The names Jimmy, but everyone call me Rev.”

“Well, Rev, my name is Kassy, but everyone calls me… well Kassy.” She joked holding out her hand.

“Nice to meet ya.” Jimmy hugged her close, mindful of her crutches. Kassy stiffened but she had a feeling these guys would definitely change her life in a big way. Hopefully for the better, but hey, she wasn't about to change her way of thinking.
