I Can't Dream
Matt wrapped his arms around, taking Coraline by surprise, and held
her close to him.
They sat there in each others embrace, enjoying the feeling.
With Coraline's back pressed up against Matt, he rocked them back and forth in a slow motion.
Matt's head was resting on her shoulder and her head was leaning back on his.
Coraline shut her eyes and took in the smell and the feeling of Matt holding her in
They sat their like that for what seemed like forever to Coraline.
Matt moved his head so he could whisper in her ear. The next thing she heard brought a smile to
Coraline's eyes shot open at the sound of her phone alarm going off. She reached for her phone and
turned the alarm off.
Sighing to herself she turned over at looked at the sunlight coming through the cracks of her
blinds. Another day of school wasn't what she wanted right now.
Throwing off the blanket letting the cold air hit her body she got out of bed. Not bothering about a
shower, because she had one last night before she went to bed, she made way across the hall she went
to the toilet and did her thing. After washing her hands she walked back into her bedroom.
Shutting her bedroom door she walked over to her closet getting her clothes out for school.
After putting the clothes she want Coraline grabbed her iPod that was on her bed and placed her head
phones in her ears. Putting it on a song that she wanted she made her way to the bathroom to do her
Her sisters had vacated the bathroom so she had it all too herself. Turning on the hair straightener
she picked up her hair brush and brushed her hair.
Once the hair straightener was hot enough she ran it through her hair till she was satisfied with
what it looked like. She then grabbed her toothbrush and brushed her teeth, knowing that she wasn't
going to have breakfast.
After doing what she needed to do she made her way down stair, grabbed her backpack and made her way
down stairs and out the door.
Looking down at the ground as she walked, she kicked any rock that was in her way also ignoring
everything around her.
Once at school Coraline went straight to her locker and put books in her bag for her lessons she had
that day. Closing her locker door she caught a glimpse of Matt walking down the corridor. Turning
her full attention to him she watched him walk casually down the corridor with two of his mates.
Zack Baker and Jimmy Sullivan. Her heart fluttered at the thought of Matt talking to her. Yeah they
were friends and they talked most of the time, but it was different this time. Matt had a different
energy today he was much happier.
Coraline closed her eyes and thought about the first time Matt had talked to her.
*Flashback to Seventh Grade*
Coraline was outside of the classroom on a bench painting something for a class
project when Matt approached.
“Hey Coraline do like the band Iron Maiden” She looked up at him surprised that he
was actually talking to her.
“Yeah” She nodded, a little taken back as to why he was asking her.
“No way! Are you kidding me! I've never met a girl that liked them before” His smiled
was so big, which just made his dimples stand out even more.
Matt ran inside the classroom telling his mates that Coraline liked the band Iron Maiden.
Meanwhile Coraline sat there on the bench as her stomach fluttered.
Matt came running back to her a minute later and asked her more questions.
“How about Metallica?” He grinned “Do you like them?”
“Of course” She giggled. “How could you not love them” Matt
looked at her with pure happiness in his eyes.
“They're my favourite band” He gushed.
Matt and Coraline sat there talking for what seemed like hours about their favourite bands, and
also how Matt was so impressed that Coraline liked these types of bands.
“Tough night huh” Matt said, interrupting Coraline from her flashback. She opened her
eyes and saw Matt standing there, without Zack and Jimmy. She let a smiled appear on her face before
“Kinda. Just had a dream last night that will never come true” She shrugged her
“Aw, don't think like that. I'm sure it will come true” He said patting Coraline on her
back. She gave him uneasy smile and shook her head.
“I highly doubt it” She simply said.
“More positive thinking from you I reckon” He smiled showing his dimples. Coraline could
have melting in a puddle right there. She loved his smile.
“Sweet. Well I have to go, catch you around” Coraline watched as Matt walked away from
her and down the hallway.
The day went by pretty quickly and she was okay with that because then that just meant that she'll
catch Matt at lunch sooner.
The bell had rung for lunch and students had rushed to get to the cafeteria first. Coraline would
usually sit with Matt and his group of friends so she was looking forward to it.
As she past the music room she heard a guitar playing and someone singing. Curiously she went to go
see who it was.
She peered in the window of the door and the sight in front of her was enough for her heart to sink
to a new low level.
She saw Matt with a guitar in his hand and singing to a girl known as Valary.
With each pass word she could feel her heart break more and more. She just listened to what Matt had
to say to Val.
“Let your fire burn bright for the world to see. You are the better part of me. When you hold
my hand I swear that I believe. I'm living in my wildest dreams. And I see.
I don't wanna live this life without you.
I don't wanna spend the night without you.
I don't wanna know what it's like.
I can't dream without you”
Matt was smiling at Valary the whole time. Coraline held onto her chest where her heart was, she
could feel her heart breaking. Tears started to form in her eye as she watched the scene in front of
her. She was truly heart broken.
Forgetting about everything she ran down the hallway, past the school doors, through the school
gates and all the way to the end of the abandoned jetty.
She sat there in silence with her backpack still on her shoulders. Her legs dangled over the edge as
she held onto the rail with her arms as she cried her heart out.
Tears were streaming down her face, her eyes were sore and her heart was hurting.
Hours had past and she was still crying. It was now raining hardcore but Coraline didn't have a care
in the world. All she could think of was that Matt was in love with another girl.
Coraline was in love with Matt, but to him they were just friends, nothing more. More tears fell
from her face as she thought about Matt never seeing her as more than just a friend.
The dream kept flashing back to her. But that's all it was, a dream, nothing more.
I have a major writers block. I know where I'm going with my stories but I'm just trying to pass the
writes block by writing about other things. So this is it.
This is based off a dream I had last night. The dream part of the story was my actual dream, but it
was with a guy that I had feelings for. I still do and it's been almost 5years and it hurts to know
that he loves some other girl :(
I'll try get a chapter of High School Never Ends up tonight. I just wanna go for a walk to the jetty
to release some built up sadness and hurt. Cause with the guy I think I love and the fact that
Christmas soon and due to family things I don't think I'm getting any Christmas presents this year,
again. Third year in a row! And I can't even have all my family with me either, cause my mum is
working most of the day and my dad doesn't live with us. So yeah. And we're broke. But whatever.
I'll spend my Christmas writing for you guys! Yay!
Review! :P Cause they make me happy!
