Welcome To The
It did end up taking us quite awhile to do the posters and actually make them look good. We finished
just before 11:30 which was actually good for not getting home until just after nine. Once we fell
asleep the morning came far too soon and we were headed off to the school to decorate the gym.
I was actually kind of relieved that the guys didn't come to school today. At the beginning of pep
rally all of the cheerleaders have to walk into the gym with the senior football players. Each
cheerleader is also assigned one of the senior boys to give candy too before each game and then walk
into pep rally with them. It was a stupid tradition, they didn't do anything for us, I hated having
to give them candy. However, my football player coincidentally was Jake Harris. Zacky really didn't
need to see us walking into the gym arm in arm.
Despite the fact it was a half day for the school it was always one of the most long and painful
days ever. Once the day was over we had to stay and clean up the gym. Then, once we were finally
done with that we got to go home for our much needed naps before another long night of almost no
It was a long night full of final and stupid team bonding games but finally morning came and we
were back at the high school for our final football game of our high school careers. It was kind of
bittersweet for Sam and I because as much as we didn't always see eye to eye with the other girls
they were still like another dysfunctional family to us. It obviously ended with the football team
losing. Nine times out of ten, no matter how good they did during the season, they would lose on
When I walked into my house after Sam dropped me off I noticed that it was louder than it normally
was on thanksgiving meaning there were more people here. As I walked down the hall towards the
kitchen my brother appeared walking towards me.
“Don't freak out,” he said as I walked by him and he followed me as I reached the
“Why,” I asked, but I saw why. Zacky was sitting at the table with his brother and
sister and a woman I had never seen before was helping our mom with the food. I looked at Brian
“Mom ran into Zack's mom at the store the other day and they were talking about how neither
of our family's really have people come over so it never really felt like a holiday so mom invited
Z's family over,” he said hushed the mothers wouldn't hear him.
“What?! Do they know about me and Zacky? Our parents don't even know yet! Unless you told
them, did you tell them? I'm not ready for this, parents hate me, I don't want them to hate me. What
do I do?” I rushed while still trying to speak softy.
“First you have to calm down a bit. Breathe. It's going to be okay,” he said trying to
comfort me, it wasn't really working. “None of our parents know and they don't have to yet if
you don't want them to.”
“I don't know if I do,” I whispered, still terrified. Then, our dad walked down the
stairs with who I assumed was Zacky's dad.
“Oh, Ryleigh, you're home. This is my daughter Ryleigh, I don't think you've ever met
her,” Our dad said to Zacky's.
“Well, it's nice to meet you,” he said shaking my hand, which I thought was weird.
“I was just showing him around the house,” Our dad told me. I just smiled and nodded.
All my friends parents usually hated me when they first met me and it sometimes took years for them
to finally warm up to me. I had no idea why that was but I didn't really want Zacky's parents to
hate me for years.
“It'll be okay, they don't hate me,” Brian whispered in my ear after they had walked by
us, almost as if he was reading my mind. I was still concerned.
Then, Zacky finally looked in our direction and got up from his spot at the table to walk over to
us. “What's wrong?” Zacky asked noticing the panic in my eyes and he went to wrap his
arm around me but I pushed him away. He looked at me then Brian, confused.
“She's scared of your parents,” Brian answered for me.
“I have to go change,” I said quickly before taking off up the stairs to my room.
“Ryleigh,” Zacky called as he followed me to my room. “Ry, what's wrong?”
he asked again as I dumped everything out of my bag onto the floor.
“I was not prepared for this and I'm freaking out because I have an awful reputation with my
friends parents,” I said falling backwards onto my floor.
He came over and sat next to me before saying, “honestly, if they could accept Matt, Brian,
and Jimmy I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about anything.”
“Yeah, but they're your friends. Then you compare me to your last girlfriend? Really? I bet
they loved Amy.”
“Yeah they did,” he said quietly but then continued, “but that doesn't mean
they'll hate you.”
“Ugh, I don't know, Z,” I said sitting up and starting to go through the pile of
clothes that accumulated in my bag in the past week. “Were you planning on telling them
“Did you want to today? I mean it has been like two weeks? Do yours know about Sam and
“Yeah, but they already loved Sam it was no big deal she's practically part of our family
anyway,” I told him as I picked up my clothes and threw them in the laundry and then headed
over to my dresser to continue looking for something to change into.
“Look, I know you're worried about this but it doesn't have to be a big deal,” he said
walking up behind me and wrapping his arms around me as I pulled a shirt out of the drawer I was
going trough. “So what if they don't like you? Don't worry about. All that matters is that I
like you,” he said, resting his head on my shoulder.
“Yeah, I guess you're right,” I told him as I turned around to face him. “But,
right now you either have to leave or go over there and face the wall,” he looked at me
questioningly. “I have to change.”
He walked over to the other side of the room and stood standing in front of the wall. Once I knew
he wasn't looking I turned back around to face the opposite wall and went to lift my uniform top
over my head. However, with the tops being so tight they were a bitch to get off. I could usually do
it but I did not have the energy today to fight with it.
“Zacky, I know I told you to stare at the wall but I need help,” I whined and he came
over to help me.
“You want me to take your top off for you,” he smirked.
“I have a bodysuit on underneath it, nice try,” I said as I lifted my arms so he could
take it off. Once he got it off he threw it to the ground he pulled me in for a kiss, which I gladly
returned. That is until I felt him trying to unbutton my skirt. I reached around to grab his hand as
I pulled away from the kiss to look at him. He pouted at me and I couldn't help but laugh.
“Really? Both of our families are downstairs, you really think that's a good idea?” he
shrugged. “Go back over there, let me change.”
As I finished there was a knock on my door and Brian walked in, “hey, guys its time for
“Not afraid of what we might be doing today?” I asked sarcastically.
“I figured you'd be smarter than that today with everyone downstairs,” I laughed to
myself and glanced quickly over at Zacky who just looked away.
“Ugh, I hate thanksgiving, the food is gross,” I complained as I pushed my way past my
We were actually using the dinning room this year for thanksgiving since we had more people. My dad
was already sitting at the head of the table. My mom would be sitting at the other end after her and
Mrs. Baker were done bringing out the food. Mr. Baker was sitting at the end of the table closer to
where my mom would be sitting and undoubtedly across from where Mrs. Baker would be sitting. Matt
was sitting next to where his mother would be sitting with Zina on the other side of him. I took a
seat across from Zina so there was an empty seat on either side of me. Zacky sat in between me and
his dad while Brian took the seat on the other side of me.
Once all the food was brought out and everyone was seated, my dad stood up and said, “We
don't generally say grace or anything we're thankful for on thanksgiving. but I do want to say that
it is nice to have the Baker family joining us today.”
As soon as he sat back down food started being passed around the table. I waited until everyone
else had pretty much helped themselves to the food before I starting picking at it. I only ended up
with a turkey leg, a little cranberry sauce and some corn. Like I said, not a huge fan of
Zacky looked at me concerned, “That's all you're eating? It's thanksgiving.”
“I told you, I'm not a huge fan of this food,” I said quietly. I saw his mom eyeing me
out of the corner of my eye. It made me nervous.
A few minutes later Zacky's mom looked up at me and asked, “so, Ryleigh, what are your plans
for next year?”
I panicked a little bit on the inside but was able to confidently answer with, “I've applied
to a few schools in the area but I'm really hoping my best friend and I both get into UCLA so we can
go there together.”
“Oh, that's a good school. What do you want to study?”
“Communications,” I said a little hesitantly because I wasn't positive I would stick
with it or change my mind.
“What do you plan on doing with that?” why was I being interrogated. I didn't even know
“I'm not entirely sure yet,” I told her nervously. Knowing I was freaking out, I felt
Zacky rub my leg under the table, trying to let me know it would be okay.
After a little while she finally gave up on the interrogation and only directed a few more
questions to me throughout the dinner.
Once dinner was finally over, the fathers took their plates to the kitchen and went to straight to
the family room to watch TV. After a few more minutes Brian, Zacky and I got up to take our plates
to the kitchen. Brian left to go upstairs right away, but I grabbed a water out of the fridge and
sat down at the island in the center of the kitchen.
Zacky walked up to the stool I was sitting on and spun it around so I was facing him. “That
wasn't so bad was it?” he asked.
“Yeah except the fact I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life, your mom
seemed thrilled about that,” I said, playing with the water bottle cap.
“No, trust me by saying you're planning on going to college she approved,” he laughed.
I looked at him confused.
“She isn't happy at all that me and the majority of my friends aren't planning on
going,” he said looking down to the floor. I hadn't even thought about that. Sam and I would
be going to school while all the guys went on tour.
He must have sensed my realization because he picked me up off the stool I was sitting on and I
wrapped my legs around his waist as he said, “Don't worry about it, we still have a long time
until you go to school.” I was worrying about it, we were finally happy together. I didn't
even know what to say to him, I just rested my forehead against his while he held me.
All of a sudden we heard plates hit the kitchen sink which scared us both, the person obviously
making loud enough noise just to make themselves known. I jumped away from him as he practically
dropped me. I turned around to see Mrs. Baker looking at us. We just stood there looking at her in
shock while she looked at us like she was waiting for an explanation. Before anyone could say
anything my mom walked through the door followed by Matt and Zina.
“What's going on?” my mom asked when she saw the looks we were giving each other.
“I caught them practically having sex.”
“Mom!” Zacky cut her off.
“What? Her legs were wrapped around you and your faces were pressed together,” she said
while my mom looked in our direction raising her eyebrows and Matt laughed.
“So, what does that mean? Are you two, like, together now?” my mom asked pointing to
I could only nod slowly but but Zacky answered with, “Yeah.”
“Oh, well that's cute. Does Brian know or were you keeping it from him too?” she asked
taking a seat at the island.
“He knows,” I said quietly.
It seemed like we were standing there forever and I just wanted to be anywhere else. We were
finally able to make it out of the kitchen and I ran straight up to Brian's room. “Ugh, so
they know,” I said walking into his room.
“Oh, really how'd they find out? You make it really obvious?”
“Zacky's mom saw us together, then our mom walked in and yeah, that's what happened,” I
said taking a seat on his floor.
“That's not so bad. You made it through today and we're leaving tomorrow. Nothing to worry
