Blindside
By Blkwidow77

Blindside

You are dreaming again

It's the same same continuous dream

The one you can never shake

The one that you never wake up from

It isn't that it's outwardly frightening

No matter where you are

There are no hairy beasts with claws

Or drops from precarious crags

It isn't that kind of place

That kind of dream

If it was, you could relax

And remember your name

Because you could see them coming

But that isn't how this is

This isn't what you know

Things here, only come to blindside you

You can't rest, when someone walks by

Your stomach will clench and twist

As you hold your breath in their passing

Not knowing if it has come

But preparation for their coming

Is not the proper stage

For this sort of sortless thing

For your sort of person, they pass by

And you suffocate tightly in this embrace

under this terminal wait

That has been made so much worse

By the half-truths of things not quite known

So you step out on to the sidewalk

Shadowed by an empty fading twilight

And you forget yourself again

You've forgotten time's shadows

These places are not part of this sidewalk

They are where the sidewalk isn't

Mistaken footsteps aren't forgiven

And neither are you

As if you ever were, as if you could exist

You aren't part of anything

But the edge of sentences that aren't finished

The period that will never come... is you

Sadness has a way of eating the toes first

To throw you off your balance

And hands that steady you

Steal your life through hollow fingertips.

You don't belong here, as it were, as it is

Pinching pain of tribulation can't help you

This dream that you can never wake up from

The dream that gives you nightmares when you sleep.
