Wait,
what?

Zacky's POV

-------------------

I sat there staring at my mom trying to take in what she just said.

“Zacky, sweetie, did you hear me?”

“Um, yea- wait, what?!” I ask still dazed.

“She's your little sister.” She stared at the baby picture I found in a box of old shit I found in the attic when I was looking for my old guitar straps. “I had an affair with a coworker and got pregnant with her in the process.” By now there were tears streaming down my mom's face. It was obvious that she tried not to think about it. I sat there speechless. I never thought my mom would ever do anything like that.

“Mom, what happened to her?” I saw her look up at me and saw the pain and guilt in her eyes. She began to cry harder. I got up from my chair and sat next to her on the couch. I wrapped my arms around her trying to sooth her. “Mom, what happened? Did dad do something?!”

“NO! I was so ashamed of what I did. The baby's father wanted nothing to do with her.” She closed her eyes for a few seconds then opened her eyes and just gazed at the picture in her hands, almost cradling it. “I gave her away” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She then looked me straight in the eyes. “I GAVE AWAY MY BABY GIRL!!!” with that she began to cry harder then ever.

“Shh, its ok mom.” I held my mom in my arms as she cried. “Why don't I remember any of this?” I ask breaking the silence.

“You were only 4 when she was born”

I then asked the question that I knew would hurt her. But I had to know.

“Why didn't you keep her, mom?” I felt like an asshole as the words came out.

“I knew your father wouldn't hurt her, but he would treat her differently. I didn't want that for her, I thought she would be better off with people who would love her more then he and I could.”

“Oh” was all I could get out. “Did you name her?” I asked now feeling tears threatening my eyes.

“Dyllan” was all she said. `Dyllan' I thought to myself. My little sister….

I sat with my mom for another hour and then headed back to my house.

-----------

I sat on my bed dazed about what just happened. All this time I was a lonely only child, and now I find out that I have a baby sister. I pulled out my phone and called the one person who could help me out.

“Hello?” I hear the sweet voice of my girlfriend, Gina.

“Hey babe, how are you?” I can feel my voice still slightly shaken up from earlier that day.

“Goo-wait, what's wrong?!”

“Nothing” I lie through my teeth.

“Zachary James Baker, don't you dare lie to me!” Her voice more concerned then threatening. I then proceed to tell her about the big shocker I got from my mom.

“Oh my hell! I am so sorry baby! How are you holding up?”

“To be honest I don't know… I feel numb.”

“Well, I'm almost home. We'll talk when I get there. I love you Zee!”

“Love you too.” I'm not sure what the hell just happened today, but one thing I know for sure, I'm gonna find my sister.
