Slipkorn

"Slipkorn I"

By Yersi Fanel

Summary: Joey Jordison's time with Korn gave him a lot more to learn that than a musical experience. This time, even by just resting on the bus, he learned something about Jon.

* * * * * * * * * *

The show was impressive, the crowd's energy was all around them, allowing them to stand and give a show to remember once again, this was part of what they had always been talking about, the performance on stage was natural, was part of what they were, it had always been.

"I need somebody...!"

"Somebody!"

"Somebody...!"

"Somebody!"

"Someone...!"

The wave, he loved this part. With Jonathan guiding the crowd, all of them with their hands in the air, shaking theirs fists, the whole place was just a wave moving along with Jonathan while Munky's voice and guitar screamed for someone and Fieldy's bass let the message flow.

He was not David Silveria, he didn't even tried to be, he had his own band, his own style, and right now he was living the opportunity of be part of Korn's tour, he was helping them and getting a great time in the process, because he had said it before: if there was no Korn, there wouldn't be Slipknot.

And that's why Joey Jordison was currently playing with Korn.

But there was more about Korn and it's once 5 now 3 pillars that he could possible know. He was not going to be able to learn everything, there was not enough time, but he was not time short either, he was going to learn a lot, he was sure of that.

Knowing this, Joey made a journal, first as a deal with a magazine, a few short entries were to be published, the rest was for him to keep.

* * * * * * * * * *

A long day on the road, he was not going to see anything besides the road and the interior of Jon's tour bus that particular day. Jon, Munky, and Fieldy, they all have their separate buses and Joey was riding with Jonathan most of the time, also Kalen Chase was with Joey a lot, since they had quickly become friends.

It was a strange kind of party being in Jon's bus, because the frontman doesn't drink at all, but likes to get Joey's and Kale's party started, pouring drinks and encouraging them to enjoy themselves, him being just a bystander. Last night had been that way and now, on the road with nothing to do, Joey was just trying to sleep, the hangover was not that bad actually, but he was tired not only because of the party but the whole tour.

So, there he was, eyes closed and all curled up in the corner of the bed with his back against the wall besides the window. It took him a couple of minutes to realize that he was on Jon's bed and not the spare in the back of the bus.

His eyes opened slowly, he could hear the faint sound of music near him and when his vision cleared he was able to see Jon with his iPod on laying besides him, eyes closed and it looked like he was asleep. Curiosity took the best of Joey and with a sneaky move was able to get the iPod from beside Jon's pillow without disturbing its owner; the music was slow and calm, enough for Jon to sleep. Joey blinked a couple of times when he saw that it was a Duran Duran's play list, then he remembered that it was one of Jonathan's favorites bands so he smiled and left the player beside the pillow to then sit up against the wall.

The curtains were halve opened, it was very early in the morning and the sound was barely up behind the heavy gray clods, looking just like a endless gray horizon. Joey was wondering were Kalen was, last night he was on the bus with him and Jon, he couldn't see him in the room so he may be in the front of the bus, probably sound sleep on one the couch. The drummer sighed faintly and landed his head against the window.

"Headache?" Joey's eyes opened to find Jonathan looking at him.

"Nah," he answered "At least, not yet."

"You should eat something." Jon sat up and took off the earphones to set the music player off "It's early, and were are not even near the city yet, so, food and them go back to sleep."

"I didn't drink that much did I?" He asked, starting to feel the familiar ache on his right side of the head.

"No, but you still need the rest, I think we all do." Jon got up the bed and smiled "You can crash here again, I don't mind."

It took Joey a couple of seconds to register that Jon was talking about his bed. "Thanks" Joey ran his right hand through his hair to steady it, he planned to fallow Jon to the front of the bus to get something to eat "Where's Kalen?"

"We made a quick stop in the middle of the night, you were out cold and Kalen was dizzy but awake, so he got off the bus to chat with his bad on their bus and stayed asleep there I think." said Jon while digging in the cabins of the bus taking out some snacks, looking for something that appealed him.

After a morning snack, Joey crashed on the bed once again, while Jon went to the back of the buss, where his instruments were and for the faint sounds Joey could tell that he was passing some music they probably did last night to his data base.

"What's up?" Joey stayed on the bed, just listening. Jonathan was on the phone. "He's fine, I told him to get some sleep...Yeah, I'll ask for a medic check up in the next stop... I'm fine Reg, I'm not the one with a nearly broken finger... Honestly, I'm fi... You're exaggerating."

Joey looked at his hand, he had hurt his right index finger during one of the shows, but he was nursering it and getting better, it hurt to play some specifics beats but he was going to be fine. Jon on the other hand almost fainted while getting off the stage. Fieldy and Munky were all over him regarding the incident. It was a joke among them that something bad always happens when they tour on Europe, last time Jonathan got a blood disorder so it was kind of normal they were paranoid about the issue.

For the sound of the conversation it looked like both, Munky and Fieldy, had called to ask about him and Jon, he gave them both the same answer. Joey was sleeping and he was fine and was going to sleep in a few moments. But Joey knew Jon was not planning on laying down at least in a hour or so, but when the door opened and Loc entered the room, waving to the sleepy Joey to then drag Jon out of the back of the bus and onto the bed, he figure that Jon's band brothers knew him too well so they decide to call Loc to fix the detail.

"Get some rest JD, man. Don't push it." he told his boss and friend before closing the door. Jonathan sighed and arranged himself in a comfortable position on the bed beside Joey, who was more sleep than awake by that point.

"They mother me too much," he mumble to himself rather than Joey, but the younger musician opened his eyes anyway.

"They care a lot about you." he commented "It's easy to see."

Jon smiled and then gave Joey a little shove on the forehead to then play with his hair, getting it al over the drummers face. Joey moved his head to clear his view of the locks of black hair covering his eyes.

"You are a good man Joey, I'm glad you were able to help us with this."

Jon's eyes slowly closed after that, finally going to sleep. Joey closed the curtains of the window before going to sleep too.

A couple of hours passed when Joey woke up again, this time feeling weird. his eyes opened and saw that Jonathan slyly moving in a restless sleep. The singer was gripping the sheets and gritting his teeth moving his head from one side to another. Joey realized that he had no idea of what to do.

"Jon?" he tried to shake him to wake up, but the singer seemed completely lost in the nightmare "Jon!"

It was not working, Joey looked around the bed to find his cell phone on the shelve near the bed, the dial Munky's number, waiting.

"…ello?" answered the guitarist in a clearly sleepy voice fallowed with yawn

"Munks, this is Joey, hey."

"…What's up?"

"Jon's having a nightmare, I can't wake him up. What do I do?" He asked trying to sound cool and calm. It wasn't actually working, through.

"Hummm..." Munky seemed to be thinking, but he didn't sound very surprised "Had he said anything yet?"

"In his sleep? No."

"Clawing at the sheets?" Joey looked over.

"Yeah, right about now."

"Trashing around?"

"No, he's just moving a little."

"Right…” Munky coughed to clear his voice “He's going to be fine man, just don't let him claw at his own face, I think his nails are long at the moment."

Joey was fast enough to catch Jon's hand only a few seconds after Munky had said that and rested Jon's writs at his side, preventing him from clawing at his face.

"Is he going to be fine, for real?"

"Yeah, it's going to be a quick one, he should calm down a few minutes."

Joey just stared at Jon, moving a little form one side to another and then resting on his side, finally getting a dreamless sleep "What was that about?" he whispered more to himself than Munky, but the guitarist answered anyway.

"Sometimes happens. Jon gets so into his performance that sometimes gets glimpses of olds demons in his sleep." He said "Don't worry too much; he's going to be fine."

"...Ok"

"I could join you guys latter if you want to." He offered.

"It's ok... I just didn't know what to do." He whispered, watching as Jon drifted into a regular sleep once again.

"You don't have to, Joey," comforted Munky "No one specs you to know everything."

"But I want to help, I want to..." He didn't finish. But somehow Munky already knew what the younger man wanted, he wanted to belong. Little he knew that they already consider him someone important and even if his was not going to be their drummer for a long term, he already was part of the family.

"Like I said, don't worry about it, Jon's gonna be fine and you can tease him about this latter." He laughed at little, bringing a smile upon Joey's face.

"Thanks."

"Nah man, Thank you."

The rest of the road trip was pretty much all about chilling to get a fresh star for the upcoming show. Joey took a picture of Jon while he was asleep with his cell phone and attached it to his journal entry of the day, label it 'No trashing, no talking: Not alarming.'

One of many of his experiences, he was indeed learning more than how was to tour with another band, he was learning more about what was to become his third family.
