Dance

She looked at him. His arms wrapped together around his stomach, slouched posture as he was leaning against the sturdy door frame, his eyes closed and face both pensive and relaxed. His body periodically swayed back and forth in semi-sombulance. She smiled and let her breath excape in a silent laugh through her nose. She excused herself from her conversation, of which she'd lost track, and made her way over to him.

She let her hand fall softly on his sleaved arm and watched his eyes open in responce. She leaned in close to him, on her tip toes to become even with his ear. He reacted to her words by letting his arm drop first to his side then around her waist to rest on her lower back. They exchanged a silent, delicate embrace before he started to direct her back through the maze of hallways and out of the reach of the mingling people.

The music from the live jazz band was still audible in their remote room. He traced from her hand upto her shoulder and then down to settle on her back. She crumpled her arms against his chest and laid her head on his shoulder. He used his left hand to grip her right softly. They slowly, rhythmically, danced to the soft musical hum.

He relaxed into an easy pattern of lifting and turning his feet. He laid his cheek against her hair and inhailed the floral scent of her shampoo. She melted into his strong arms and used his support as an ancor. She followed his easy feet around on the rug. His finger tips lightly tapped on her back with the soft beat of the drum. She smiled at the tickle and wrapped her left arm around his back, hoping to resiprocate his affectionate touch.

She was only slightly aware, in her trance, of the clamor of feet that clipped through the wooded halls in their direction. A boistrous couple skidded to a stop at the doorway and watched in jealous silence as they finished their dance with a tight hug and soft kisses.

"One might be confused who's wedding this was." the on looker whispered to her companion.

Daniel looked up at them startled and blushed. He put a few inches between himself and his girl and looked at his best friend.

"Having fun tonight?" He smiled at his friend.

"Keeping awake, can't complain." Ben responded and was pulled down the hall by his lover wearing a cheaky grin.

"Was that the Kelly girl?"

"No, this one's a step up." Dan offered, "A dancer of a non-exotic type."

"Shocking."

"Horrifying." He held her playful gaze.

"Surprizing."

"Thrilling?" He cocked an eyebrow.

"I don't know him well enough to comment." She silently laughed and took his hand. She lead him back towards the reception hall.

He stopped her half way and held her back to him, his arm tight around her satin covered waist. He firmly planted several kisses on her neck, "Do we have to go back?" He whinned slightly.

"One more round, just to say goodbye then we can leave." He sighed at his social girlfriend and followed her down the rest of the way.

"Ah!" Some loud, drunk woman yelled as they came through the double doors, "Daniel!" His aunt rushed at him, "Who's the pretty girl?"

"Aunt Marge, this is Jeni." He introduced her and laughed at her expression as the plump woman embraced her thin frame completely into her bosom.

"It's so nice to see Daniel with a girl." She pulled her in a half headlock and drug her only slightly to the side, "You lost me twenty bucks, I was sure he went the other way."

Jeni looked and laughed at him while he sheilded his burningly bright red face from her. "Great to see you Aunt Marge." He seemingly supressed a moment of panic by closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

"Oh, but not really dear. You're such a handsome boy." She tried to comfort him and released his girlfriend.

"It's been wonderful, but we're on our way out." He started to drag Jeni to the door.
