The Perfect Moment
By dontstopbelieving

Falling down from the sky was the one thing that seemed to make me feel at ease. Whenever it rained, I always felt so calm and so relaxed. And as I sit in my bedroom at this very moment, I have placed myself next to my window, the open book on my lap forgotten while I watched the raindrops hit against my window.

I was home alone tonight. My parents had claimed they wanted to go out somewhere nice to eat since it was their anniversary. I was an only child.

After a few minutes of watching the rain, I put my bookmark into my book and set it aside and got to my feet. I slipped on my flip flops and headed downstairs. The house was so quiet when it was just me there. But right then, I didn't really care. I wanted to do something so... so much like what a little kid would do.

I opened the front door and headed out, standing on the porch and listening to the rain. And then I slowly headed off the porch, down the three steps and grinned as the rain hit me. I moved out onto our front yard, or what a little bit of a front yard we had, and extended my arms to my sides and closed my eyes, lifting my head up and just stood there in the rain.

After a moment, my feet started to move, taking me in a spinning motion. I didn't know what it was, but twirling in the rain always made me giddy. So I was there, in my front lawn, spinning around in the rain, the ground slick beneath my flip-flop clad feet. I didn't care how silly I looked. I didn't care if people stared.

I suppose being this way gave me a sense of freedom.

I suppose the sound and feel of the rain made me calm.

But then a felt an arm wrap around my waist and heard another pair of feet move around with me. I opened my eyes and saw him. A grin was soon came across my face and I put my arms around his neck while his other arm slid around my waist.

And the spinning stopped and was replaced by one little dance. A dance that went in time to the rain falling, the rumble of thunder. It was the perfect moment.
