Chapter 1: Water
Avatar Titans: Dawn of Monkuai
It was cold, colder than normal in the southern water tribe. Winter must be starting, and so was the
winter solstice, meaning the coronation of the southern water tribe's prince and princess would
Gran Gran rose out of the ice plaice unto the balcony. “I'm proud to stand here before you
today, mighty southerners. It has been a long time since we have had a plaice, or a prince and
princess. It has been awhile since we've had a lot of things, but now that the war is over. And with
the help of the Northern tribe and Fire Nation we will once again be apart of this great world as a
city. Not a poor village on the middle of an iceberg. We have risen once again!” the crowd
beneath her cheered as her speech paused. “Now I present you with our new leaders our princess
Katara the graceful” as Katara steps out of the shadows the crowd cheers. “Our prince,
Sokka the brave” he steps out of the shadows and the crowd cheers again, “And our
leader, the king out the Southern Water tribe Hakoda the stifle” he does the same as the
others. “I give you the royal family of the Southern Water Tribe!” they all wave to the
people as ice-works go off behind the palace.
“Ah it's so good to be royal” Sokka was enjoying a rub in his room. There was a small
fire pit in the middle of the room. With skins of animals, and swords and spears all over the walls
a floor and a large bed near the window. Katara walked in looking kind of annoyed
“Sokka, now that we're the prince and princess of the Southern Water Tribe, we have our duties
to take care of.”
“Katara please, we just finished defeating the Fire Lord I think we can take a break.”
He got off the rub to put his clothes on.
“Yeah, Aang defeated the Fire Lord, and that was 5 months ago.” Sokka turned to Katara,
“What! That was really five months ago?”
“Yes Sokka it was, you don't remember.” He went to the fire pit where his clothes were
“Huh, five months went by that fast,” he said as he put on his royal clothes, which was
his sword warrior uniform from his sword master robes, but they were blue and white. Katara wore her
same old clothes but had a tiara, and her shoes and gloves were white with blue gems on them.
“Yeah, you don't remember, we dropped off Toph and Suki, while Zuko stayed back in the Fire
Nation, and then Aang brought us here then went off on Avatar training.”
“Suki…” Sokka looked out the window toward the ocean. “I…I
“Never mind,” He put on his sword straps and walked to Katara. “Hey, what's Aang
She looked worried and her voice got low. “I don't know, but he's probably looking for any
surviving Airbender's probably.”
“You think they're any left?”
“I don't know if so why would they be hiding for all this time?”
“Yeah,” A girl with long brown hair walked in.
“Lady Katara, um, I was wondering-“
“Katara, just call me Katara, Kaya”
“Oh, K-Katara, uh it would be an honor to be your water bending student” she bowed.
Katara eyes began to glow as she smiled “Kaya, I'd, I'd love to be your teacher”
“Oh thank you” Kaya jumped up and hugged Katara “I won't let you down Katara, I
promise.” Kaya ran out of Sokka's room and down the stairs.
“Katara, why are you gonna teach waterbenrding, when we have `duties'” Sokka laughed.
“It is my duty, since I'm grace. I help our people, and others.”
“Sokka did you even pay attention to you're choice?”
“uh no” they both walked down the stairs of ice, out of the tower.
“You're brave, meaning you're our weapons, and battle strategist,”
“OH really, sounds cool. Bet that's why I got the cool tower bed room.”
“Ugh, No you got the tower room, so you can see any invasions before they attack us.”
“Oh that's what it means”
“AH!” Katara banged her hand on the wall. The ice made a huge crack, running down to
where Sokka was causing an explosion sending him up in the air. “KATARA!!!!” he yelled.
Before he painfully hit the ground, the ball of air surrounded him, making him slow down and hover
above the ground. “What, Katara is this you?”
“No you idiot. Look it's Aang!” She pointed to the ceiling skylight.
There was Aang with his new glider, smiling back at them. He jumped off the skylight hole, and
glided down to them. “Hey Katara” They hugged
“Aang what are you doing here, I thought you were..”
“I decided, to stop my training for awhile and visit my friends.”
“Aw we're glad you're back, but Aang can you let me down?
“Oh sorry Sokka” he flicked his hand and Sokka fell to the ice. “So how's the new
prince and princess of the Southern Water Tribe?”
“It's great! I got a new waterbending student today and, and,”
“Katara, slow your row,” Sokka said as he was trying to get off the ground “We
just got our crowns today Aang.” They all walked out to the courtyard in front of the palace,
where kids were playing, and feeding the seals.
Aang, Katara and Sokka walked down the steps to the bridge were Appa was drinking from the river.
“Appa! How's it been good old buddy old pal?” Appa gave a growl the liked Sokka's face
“Katara, I need to tell you something.”
“What is Aang? You looked worried.” She put her hand on his shoulder.
“We need to form our team again.” Katara paused. She looked at Appa and Sokka.
“Aang look, we just became prince and princess, we just can't leave the Southern Water Tribe
like that. I mean we just finished the war and built the tribe back up.”
“I know this is hard but, the fate of the world depends upon us.”
There was along pause as the snow started to fall form the sky. Katara walked up the stairs to the
court yard and started at the kids. “My tribe… our people, Aang I can't just abandon
them like this. It's to early, I have a duty to my people, to my father and so does Sokka. We just
can't leave like last time…. I just can't.”
“M-Master Katara, I don't think the Avatar would just want you to leave unless it was
important.” Katara turned to see that her father and Kaya were there. “Katara know one's
going to think that you abandoned them. You're the Princess of the Water Tribe, friend of the Avatar
and protector of the world unless you forgot.”
“And besides,” Kaya said “I'd love to travel with you guys… if that's okay
with you Avatar Aang.”
“That'd be awesome! Good to have a new face to the group.” Aang and Kaya smiled.
“Katara yes. Me and Gran Gran cane handle things around here” Hakoda and Katara hugged
as Sokka walked up the steps.
“So what's going on?” Sokka said.
“Pack your bags, we're leaving in the morning” Aang jumped up high and landed on Appa,
“See ya in the morning!”
“We're going on a new adventure Sokka, and it's going to be harder than before I think.”
“What?” Katara, Hakoda, Kaya and Gran Gran began to walk into the palace.
“Oh yeah Kaya's coming to. See ya in the morning.”
