Waking the Fallen
By shibi

It had been a week since Zacky, Jimmy and Brian had wreaked havoc in Aiden's house and this particular morning he saw her sitting on the back porch with a mug of tea in her hands as she watched the sunlight slowly spread over the large estate. He shook his head as she shivered and curled up more tightly - if it was one thing he would never understand it was how Aiden could be cold all the time.

She didn't bother looking behind her as he pulled the sliding door open and shut before taking off his hoodie and settling it across her shoulders. She smiled at Zacky as she pulled on the extra hoodie and zipped it up, relishing in the warmth it already had and the unique smell of Mr Vengeance.

“What're you doing up so early?” he yawned, taking a seat beside his guest and rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He almost cringed at the raspy whisper his voice had. He couldn't afford to be sick right now, not when they were working so hard on making sure the new album would be out on time “Is the guest bedroom too cold? Uncomfortable?” he asked quietly, trying hard to hide the grate in his voice.

She shook her head, her dark hair loosening from the black bobby pins holding it back. “I just needed to clear my head; I have an exam this afternoon. The guest bedroom is great Zacky… really, I couldn't have asked for anything better. I'm getting all my study done… if anything I've done too much!”

“Yeah well… good.”

“You and the guys working on the new album today?” she asked, finishing her tea.

Zacky groaned in reply. “Yeah… my voice is about to go though,” he rasped.

He saw her frown, putting down the empty mug and taking his face into her hands, feeling if his forehead was warmer than usual. His eyes slid shut as he sighed deeply, relishing in the touch of the younger girl. If anything, the past week she had been here had been interesting. He had thought she would have some sort of bad habit that would annoy him and the others, or that she would cling to him and ask an endless river of questions. What he hadn't expected was her quiet contentedness, where she had been able to have her own small world of study in the guest bedroom closest to his, he had not expected her to fit in so well in his home - as if she had been there all along only he hadn't taken the time to notice.

He blinked as he felt her hands disappear.

“You're a little warm. You should probably have a lie in… it's because you never wear anything warm when it's this cold,” she scolded gently, standing up and holding out her hand to him.

Zacky chuckled and took the hand that was offered to help him up. “I wouldn't have to give away my hoodies if someone didn't wear her own when it's this cold.”

Aiden blushed at the retort, not noticing that Zacky still held her hand as they headed inside, slowly entwining their fingers together.

“Go on then… I'll make you some of my tea and then bring it up to you. To bed with you Mr Vengeance,” she instructed, squeezing his hand lightly before releasing it and gently pushing him in the direction of the stairs.

Zacky grinned playfully and swooped down, placing a soft kiss on her cheek before backing up quickly and softly saying “yes mother!”

Aiden watched as he disappear before she lifted a hand to her cheek, a small smile making its way onto her face. He had kissed her… albeit only on the cheek, but still it was a kiss Aiden was likely to never forget; after all, it was her first.

“I forget how exactly we got onto this topic,” Aiden argued.

Zacky shrugged, not caring about the random topics of conversation they had been having all night, rather enjoying having her all to himself tonight because Brian, Jimmy, Johnny and Matt had decided to return to their own lives for a few hours. He was still sick, but he was getting better and he had insisted on spending the day downstairs on the couch because he was getting bored in his room.

“That's the beauty of random topics… they're random,” he grinned up at her sleepily. “Come on… your turn for a random topic… unless you can't think of something... in which case you have laundry duty for the next two weeks while the housekeeper is away!” he exclaimed.

Aiden gave him a playful glare and hit him with a pillow, sitting up on the sofa and stretching before falling back and giving a small sigh as he snickered. “Fine… let's talk about the Bermuda Triangle then,” she suggested, hoping to put him off speaking for a while so she could settle the little butterflies that seemed to have taken over her stomach again.

“Bermuda Triangle?” he asked incredulously, sitting up and glancing at her with an eyebrow raised in question and a small smirk playing on his lips.

“Well… if you don't have anything to say about it… then you lose this little competition!” Aiden exclaimed brightly.

“No, no… Bermuda Triangle… the place where freaky shit happens right?” he let out a large yawn as he made himself more comfortable on the floor, taking the pillow she had thrown at him and putting it under his head before curling up between the layers of blankets he had used to make himself a bed on the, apparently, warmer carpeted floor all day.

She nodded in response. “Yep.”

“Well… you get lost right? It's like a place where things just don't make sense. Compare it to people then,” he stated. “Where the only thing in your life that isn't moving is that one other person. You're my Bermuda Triangle Aiden,” he whispered. “Nothing makes sense in this world… but when I look at you, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter that I'm lost… because I've found you.”

Aiden was curled up by now, too scared to peer over the edge of the couch to look at Zacky- to respond to his sudden confession about their friendship. The silence was thick for a few minutes as she eventually found the courage to glance at the object of her desires, his back to her with his shoulders rising and falling gently.

Zacky?” she whispered.

No response. Aiden gave the sleeping figure a small smile before fixing his blanket and curling up on the couch and falling into sleep with a smile on her face.

“Look - I'm seriously freaking out here!” Zacky's voice hissed over the phone. “What if I actually spoke in my sleep or something?”

There was no sound for a moment before the room burst into laughter.

“B-B-Bermuda Triangle?! That's just a riot and a half Zacky,” Brian laughed.

“YOU HAVE ME ON SPEAKER PHONE?” the rhythm guitarist yelled.

“You expected him to leave us out of the loop?” cackled Jimmy. “This is just classic… you're the one who's usually all smooth with the ladies!”

“Oh shut up,” Zacky muttered.

Brian bit his bottom lip to keep from bursting into laughter once more. “Come on guys… enough tormenting him.”

Johnny snorted, sending the whole room into laughter once more.

“You aren't HELPING!”

“Sorry… it's just… why would you even dream that let alone say it?” Brian asked, a grin on his face as he leant forward toward the phone sitting in the middle of his lounge room table.

“How am I supposed to know? I was drugged up to the eyeballs with all the cold and flu shit you lot had to go shopping for!”

“Don't blame the medicine Zacky… if anything the medicine just takes away your control!” laughed Jimmy. “Not helping your cause!”

“Will you stop laughing? It's really not all that funny!” he hissed.

“Yes it is,” Brian snickered.

“YOU! I can't believe you told them!” Zacky accused referring to the conversation they had had several weeks ago about him liking Aiden.

“Pretty sure they figured it out and then held me at gun point until I told them everything,” Brian replied.

“Only the gun was really Jimmy threatening to slobber into his ear while we all sat on him to keep him from moving about,” Matt grinned proudly.

“You lot are worse than girls when it comes to gossip!”

“Hardly gossip Zack… it's band gossip, and all band gossip must be knowledge to all band members,” replied Johnny.

“Onto more important matters though,” Brian interrupted. “What did she say this morning?”

“Nothing… that's why I thought I may have dreamt it. But what if I didn't?”

“Oh my God! Obviously if she hasn't said anything or run off in a fit of blushing at the sight of you after you pretty much professed your undying love for her, she doesn't know or didn't hear it or has simply decided to save you from the embarrassment,” groaned Matt.

“Well… that doesn't help!” Zacky whined.

“Chances are she didn't hear it or you dreamt it man,” Brian advised. “If her behaviour is unchanged then she didn't take it the way you meant it or you dreamt it. Either way, you're safe.”

“Brian's right,” Jimmy agreed.

“For once,” Matt interjected, ducking with a laugh as a pillow flew at him.

“Hey! I resent that! I'm right a lot!”

“Sure,” Jimmy said with a straight face. “Anyway Vengeance, how are you feeling? Up to having us in your studio again or do you punish me with having to babysit the band again?”

“Come on over… I don't think I can stand the suspense of not knowing whether or not she heard my little spiel last night. At least you can distract her.”

Brian laughed in reply.

“We'll see you in a bit then,” Matt said before hanging up.

Silence enveloped the room for a few minutes as each of the band members fell into thought.

“He's totally head over heels,” Brian eventually concluded.

Bit of a pointless one-shot but I thought it was cute at the time… anyway :) thanks to VengeanceAtMidnight, RhiannonPyrros and synsterr for the reviews. Hope you enjoyed this one?

Let me know what you think if you can…
