Build God,
Then We'll Talk

By JenxWalker

It's these substandard motels on the corner of 4th and Fremont Street.
Appealing only because they are just that un-appealing
Any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering.
The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde,
And the habit of decomposing right before your very eyes.

She looks at the motel door in front of her. The man she stands next to frightens her, but she has no choice. Take his offer or live off the streets. Her parents would never help her. They never have. She needs this money. She needs it.

Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Tonight tenants range from: a lawyer and a virgin
Rising with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie
She's getting a job at the firm come Monday.
The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney
and lying aside, she really needs his money.
A wonderful caricature of intimacy.

He pulls her inside. They go straight to the front desk, gaining a rusty, silver room key. The man leads her to the room, slipping her from her clothes. She needs this money.

And not to mention, the constable, and his proposition, for that "virgin"
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on "strictly business"
as he said to the Mrs., only hours before,

The woman doesn't know he set her up. He lied, promised her things that wouldn't happen, not telling the consequences. But she really needs the money.

After he had left, she was fixing her face in a compact.
There was a terrible crash
Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag, and held a "purse" of a different kind.

She fixes her make up as the man leaves, sobbing so hard her efforts are of no use. A crash and the door comes open, an officer forcing his way in. Arresting her for prostitution. She never got her money.

Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy

She holds her stomach, not knowing what to expect. Feeling sick. Fearing the worst. She knew the experience would be bad, but not this bad.

There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses.
It's sleeping with the roaches and taking best guesses
So shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things.

And a few more of your least favorite things.

She steps from the officer's car, her white nightgown flowing in the wind. The rain dies from the New York City skies, leaving the woman dripping wet. The caricature was nothing of her expectations, prayers falling unanswered. The blanket on her cot old and dirty, she lay down awaiting a trial. It couldn't possibly get worse. The money she thought she needed so badly was not of this punishment. Nor the people inside.
