I'd put a disclaimer here, but no one reads them anyway.
/////
They say opposites attract. I can vouch that they do, and boy, do they ever.
Especially in my case- not just my case, Rob's case.
If I had a dollar for every time I've heard him muse about why somebody as great as me (so he says)
would want to be with somebody as dull as him (so he says) I wouldn't need bother selling records.
I got a bit mad at him the last time he went into that routine, and did I end up regretting it. I
said some things I shouldn't've- accusing him of being ungrateful sticks with me the most. His
expression made me hate myself quickly.
Much of what they say about Rob is true- that he's introverted, soft-spoken, intense, creative, and
even a little sensitive. They (whoever they are) have never said that even he gets sad sometimes.
He didn't cry then, but sure came close. I was ready to cry myself.
What he said will probably stick me forever- he has a way with words that way. Maybe that's why he
doesn't talk so often, he's waiting for when he really has something to say.
"I'm not ungrateful, Prev, I don't care what you say. An' it's not that I don't care about you-"
we'd been lovers for a while, but had never gotten to *saying* 'love'- "-but I gotta wonder- what do
you see in me?"
Even though I gave him a lame, on-the-spot answer- that it was the same things he saw in me- he
seemed satisfied with it. But it's the wrong answer, for so many reasons, not just because it was
on-the-spot. Not everything we see in each other could be the same.
I can hazard a guess at what he found attractive about me. I'm in the spotlight more often, more
outspoken, more confident- definitely more prominent, the way I look. Most likely Rob was attracted
to my glamour and energy and wanted to be near it, hoping to soak some up.
Not that I feel used or bitter because of it. I'm easy to talk to and don't mind listening-
something he no doubt likes.
We're definitely a case of opposites attracting, not just in how we look, but everything. I'm so out
there, and he...quietly stays on the sideline.
I figure the looks thing is also why Rob has doubts about us. To him I look fantastic (the same
thing everyone else says about me, even if I have a hard time believing it), while he calls himself
too plain and too ugly.
Plain he is not, ugly he is certainly not. To me, he looks like just a regular friendly guy, someone
who blends in with a crowd and is easier to identify with because he looks just like you. There
aren't many people in the business still like that.
I guess Rob considers himself ugly because he's not as thin as the rest of the group. Well between
you and me, that's nothing to worry about. Mad and Moke are actually getting *too* thin, if you ask
me.
At least Rob never complains about his looks during the nights we're alone. Behind closed doors,
insecurities slip away as easily as clothing, and thank goodness for that. I need to feel him in my
arms, lose myself in his eyes, take in every kiss.
I know exactly what I see in him- an intense angel with a gentle soul and a loving heart.
He is in no way, shape, or form the fat, shy wimp that everyone hates that he thinks he is. He's my
friend and I love him.
There. I said it. It took all my heart, but I said it.
I love him.
Everyone is different on the outside, but we all feel the same inside, we need to feel loved.
Maybe Rob and I aren't so different, after all.
