Finally
By Darchangel

Obviously this ain't true (well, the slash part anyway), and if I'm lyin, I'm dyin. (looks up and
waits for the lightning bolt) Takes place a bit after "A Healing Touch," so if you're worried about
confusion, you might wanna go back and read that first. It's not that bad, trust me. ^_^ Onward.
//////////
The moonlight was a sheer-white tray of tranquility seeping through the window and gently
illuminating the room. The fact light was there wasn't the reason Kyle couldn't sleep, but what the
light touched upon.
Shane was deeply asleep beside him, the moonlight making his skin paler than usual. His lips were
parted slightly as he breathed in a steady rhythm. Their hands had been clasped together all night,
and the younger man couldn't bring himself to let go.
'Eight years,' Kyle thought with a sigh. They'd known each other all that time, and it'd taken that
same length if time to tell the truth about their feelings. Maybe eight years wasn't so long in the
whole scheme of things, but to Kyle, it was a lifetime.
He wondered how he could've waited so long, then chalked it up to naivety and fear of rejection.
He'd only been eighteen when he met Shane- still barely a kid, and by then Shane was more
independent than most adults he knew. Kyle couldn't help but admire that.
He didn't know yet at that age whether he loved this man, but he knew he admired and respected him.
After that first meeting, the two were inseperble. Kyle knew the ins and outs of being a lyrically
creative emcee- thanks to Daniel's mentoring- but knew little about the business aspect. Shane had
to show him the ropes as the two put their time and energy into what they had now- a solid, credible
record label just beginning to earn recognition after all this time.
Fortunately, the two never forgot their friendship. Of course their was the occasional scuffle, but
things worked out eventually.
'What'll happen when we fight now?' Kyle couldn't help to wonder. 'I hope it doesn't change how we
feel about each other. But I fell in love with him and I know what I've gotten myself into.'
That was when another thought struck. 'When did he realize what he felt about me?'
He recalled what Shane said to him- "No other friend I have would bother to help me feel better the
way you just did. I had no idea you were so caring." Kyle sighed again and ran his free hand over
the older mans', which were now slowly healing after the damage of today.
There were possibly many levels of caring in the favor Kyle had done, but mostly he hated to see his
friend unhappy.
'I'll always make sure you're happy, Shane-baby, I promise.' He settled his head into his pillow
when he saw a small surprise.
Shane's eyes- his beautiful, intense, clear blue eyes- opened with a flutter.
"You stil awake?" he asked, a tinge of sleepiness in his voice.
"'Fraid so. I was just...thinking," Kyle answered, squeezing the older man's hand before he realized
it.
"Eight years, Prev. That's a long time."
The young man felt a shiver down his spine, even though the room was warm. Had Shane been thinking
the same things; were their thoughts so in tune with each other? But rather than ask such a
question, Kyle said, "I just wish I coulda told you sooner."
"It's OK now," Shane used his free arm to drag himself closer to the the dark body beside him.
"We've got all the time in the world to make up, remember that."
Kyle grinned. That was close to what he'd said before they gone to sleep: "You'll always be my
friend. Don't you forget that."
"See? I knew I could get a smile out of you," it was Shane turn to grin, and he reached to brush his
fingers past Kyle's cheek. "You can get to sleep now. I'll still be here in the morning."
"I know." It seemed the other man's words were magic to him; now he couldn't keep his eyes open. He
just felt his lashes touch his face when Shane spoke again.
"Kyle?"
"Yeah?" He opened his eyes once more; it was rare to Shane to call him by his real name now.
"I love you."
Kyle cupped his hands to the older man's face and brought their lips together in a smooth, gentle
kiss. He couldn't remember any kiss from anyone feeling as wonderful as this.
"I love you, Shane-baby," he whispered back, the utmost sincerity in his voice. He shut his eyes
once more to give in to the night, feeling the most content he'd ever been in a long time.
