Over My Head (Cable Car)
By Melanie

Over My Head

Disclaimers: I do not own anything. Brooke Davis and Lucas Scott are not owned by me, but Mark Schwahn the creator of One Tree Hill. The lyrics are not mine, either. They are to Over My Head (Cable Car) by The Fray. I did not write them. All I did was put the story together.

I wrote this quite a while ago, please review. Criticism is welcomed, but put it nicely. Thank you.

I never knew

I never knew that everything was falling through

That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue

To turn and run when all I needed was the truth

?

But that's how its gotta be

It's coming down to nothing more than apathy

I'd rather run the other way than stay and see

The smoke and who's still standing when it clears

He looked around. Where was she? Why wasn't she here? Why did that always happen?

She was there one minute in the crowd of people and then go. Making his way through the smoke, he ran up to?a man that was standing in the back of the queue.

"Excuse me, sir" he said, politely tapping his shoulder for attention. The man turned round.

"You!" he scolded, then ran away. Everyone seemed to think he was evil. What had he done wrong to make everyone leave? All he wanted to know was where she was. The smoke seemed to disappear. The she was! The one he was waiting for.

"Brooke!" he yelled, than ran towards her.” I've been looking everywhere for you" he panted. Smiling, she went to hug him, just as he was about to rap his arms around her fragile body, she had gone.

Everyone knows I'm in

Over my head

Over my head

With 8 seconds left in over time

She's on your mind

She's on your mind

Shooting up, he looked around the room breathing heavily.

"Lucas! Lucas come on, you're gonna be late!" he heard his mothers voice yelling up to his room form downstairs.

"Alright, I'm coming!" he answered, swinging himself out of bed.

?

Later that morning he was at school and by his locker. Where was she? Why wasn't she here? Why did this always happen?

He looked around through the crowd of people, hoping to see her. Nothing. The bell rung and he gave up looking for her. Shrugging his shoulders, he made his way to class.

?

Sitting in lesson, he stared outside the window. Where is she? Why wasn't she here? Why did this always happen?

Why do I keep thinking about her? Is she thinking about me? Is she talking about me? Does she want me too?

The bell rang; he had spent a whole hour looking out the window thinking about Brooke. Brooke Davis, the girl of his dreams. The girl of his every thought.

Brooke Davis, I am the man for you, I will prove it to you one day...Just you wait and see.

Let's rearrange

I wish you were a stranger I could disengage

Just say that we agree and then never change

But that's disregard

Find another friend and you discard

As you lose the argument in a cable car

Hanging above as the canyon comes between

?

Everyone knows I'm in

Over my head

Over my head

With 8 seconds left in overtime

She's on your mind

She's on your mind

There she is. The girl he was looking for. The girl he thought he loved. Should he go and talk to her? No. Should he walk past her? No. Should he try and get her attention in some way? No. Should he just give up now and wait for another time? Yes.

But the little argument in his head didn't help.

He turned back round and faced his locker. Slowly getting the courage to go talk to her, he turned round, closing his locker and went to walk towards her.

Where is she? Why wasn't she here? Why did this always happen?

Letting out a huge sigh, he walked away and went to his next class.

?

He spent the rest of the day with her on his mind; the image of her beautiful face wouldn't go. Her brown her. Her brown eyes. That slim body that he wished he could just wrap his arms around and hold her close to his heart. Those lips he just wanted to...

"Scott!" he turned round to face his basketball coach, Whitey Durham.

"Hey Coach" he said, forcing a smile.

"You're late Lucas, get in the changing room and get to practise. NOW!" He ordered.

Slowly, Lucas plodded along to the gym.

And suddenly I become part of your past

I'm becoming the part that don't last

I'm losing you and it's effortless

Without a sound we lose sight of the ground

In a throw around

Never thought that you wanted to bring it down

I won't let it go down till we torch ourselves

?

And everyone knows I'm in

Over my head

Over my head

She's on your mind

He walked along the hallways of the school building, and saw Brooke. There she is, the one he wanted, the one he thought he loved. As they walked passed each other he looked at her about to smile, but when she saw him she looked away as if she did not recognise him. He stopped in his tracks, almost about t cry because of it, people bashing into his arms as they walked passed.

“Move it, idiot!” they scolded. He finally came back down to reality and walked out of the school.

Everyone knows

She's on your mind

Everyone knows I'm in over my head

I'm in over my head

I'm in over...

He got home and went straight to his room, realising he'll never have Brooke in his arms. Where is she? Why wasn't she here? Why did this always happen?

Those three questions would play over and over again in his mind. Usually it was after he had seen her and she had disappeared, or it was in his dreams and she would appear then disappear. Not this time.

“Lucas!!!” His mother yelled from downstairs.

“What?!” he asked.

“There's someone down here that wants to talk to you!” she told him. After that, he walked away from the window and down the stairs.

“Mom, I'm not really in the…” he stopped mid-sentence. “Brooke?”

“Hi Lucas” she said, smiling a nervously.

“Hi” he replied.

“I'll just leave you two alone” his mother smiled, walking out of the kitchen.

“So, why are you here?” he asked Brooke.

“I…I just came by to tell you, that I'm sorry” she apologised.

“Sorry? For what?” he asked.

“For being a jerk. For ignoring you. For acting like your part of my past, or that you don't exist.” She said, trying her hardest not to cry.

“Its fine” he mumbled, when really it wasn't fine…

Everyone knows I'm in

Over my head

Over my head

With 8 seconds left in overtime

She's on your mind

She's on your mind

“I love you Lucas!” Brooke smiled.

“I love you too Brooke” Lucas replied, rapping his arms around her and kissing her lips. Just like his dreams, but it was real. It was really happening and she wasn't disappearing! She was staying right here.

Here she is! She's staying here! This is the best thing to ever happen!
