Author's Notes: I had a free hour to kill, but couldn't work on The Return
of the Sisters. So, I decided to write something... christmasy. Don't ask
me where this came from- it's a really stupid idea that I had. I didn't
make any plans, so I have no clue how it'll turn out- probably pretty bad.
C&C is welcome, but... I don't know why you'd bother with something this
silly and predictable.
Chronological Notes: Set some time after Nodoka learns of Ranma's curse-
I'd imagine a couple of years after, in fact (which would probably put it
some time after the last manga, I suppose)
Disclaimer: The characters and background are from Ranma 1/2, which I
couldn't possibly claim to own. That honor belongs to Rumiko Takahashi.
Please don't sue me.
Akane was awoken in the morning by a commotion out in the courtyard. For
moment, she ignored it as usual. Then she remembered that Ranma and his
parents had left to visit his maternal grandparents for the holidays. For
once, the racket couldn't be blamed on him.
Akane sighed. She wouldn't admit it out loud, but she missed Ranma.
Because they were traveling by foot, they had to leave a month early, and
it had been two and a half weeks since she had last seen him. He wouldn't
be back for another month either. 'The baka,' the thought to himself. 'He
hasn't even written.' She sighed again, closing her eyes to get back to
sleep. She hadn't really expected him to. He hadn't even thought to get
her a present before he left.
There was a knocking on the door. "Akane!" Kasumi sang from the other
side of the door. "Are you awake? You have a delivery!"
'A delivery? Could Ranma have sent me a christmas present?' Akane was
suddenly wide awake. "Coming, Kasumi!" Jumping out of her bed and into
some of her clothes, she ran out the door.
"Downstairs, Akane," Kasumi said, smiling. Akane ran down the stairs, to
"This seems like an odd gift," Soun was saying to Nabiki, staring at a
potted tree. Suddenly, a song arose from it.
"Oh, my," Nabiki said in her ironic parody of Kasumi. "Looks like the tree
comes complete with a bird."
"Oh?" Soun asked. "What kind of bird?"
"It looks like... a partridge in a pear tree?"
Akane's eyes widened. "Okay, how do you guys know it's for me? This is
some kind of practical joke, right?"
Nabiki handed Akane a card. "This came with it."
Akane looked at the card- a typical Christmas scene of snow-covered pine
trees. She sighed and opened the card. Inside it was typed the words "For
Akane, from one who hopes he is your True Love."
"Oh, gods," Akane dispaired. "Who sent this?"
Nabiki shrugged. "Well, there was no return address, so I have no idea."
Akane sighed. "What do you want me to do with your present, Akane?"
asked as she came downstairs.
"Oh, I don't know," Akane said. "Just plant it in the garden or
something." Akane went back upstairs. 'Well, that was disappointing.'

"Akane!" Kasumi called from the door. "Another delivery!"
Akane sighed. The partridge in the pear tree was fine- at least they could
grow pears from the tree. But the two turtle doves, three french hens, and
four calling birds were completely useless. What was coming now?
"What is it this time?" Akane asked as she slowly left her room.
"Five golden rings," Nabiki said as she walked up. "Or, actually, a
two-band engagement ring with a three-band wedding ring."
"WHAT?!" Akane screeched. Nabiki handed her the box, and she looked
inside. Sure enough, there were five bands of gold in there. "Who is
giving me all these presents, and WHY are they giving them to me?"
Nabiki smirked. "Well, my guess is the 'who' is someone who has a crush on
you. The 'why' is because... well... haven't you ever read western
"Huh?" Akane blinked. "What are you talking about?"
"There's a western christmas carol called 'The Twelve Days of Christmas.'
It says what gift someone's 'true love' gives to them every day for twelve
days. First is a partridge in a pear tree, then two turtle doves, then
three french hens, and so on. Tomorrow, you'll be getting six
geese-a-laying, followed by seven swans a swimming, followed by..."
Akane groaned and grabbed her head. "Oh, gods..." She shook her head in
pain. "It must be Kuno. He's the only one who would do something like
this. It HAS to be Kuno..."
"Oh, Akane," Kasumi interrupted. "I almost forgot- this card came with
Akane sighed. "Yeah, I'd better read it. Maybe whoever's sending these
will give some indication of who it is..."
She looked at the writing. "Akane," it began. "I have been in love with
you for years now, but I have never been able to ask this question- either
because others got in the way, or because of my own stupidity. Will you
marry me? I will give you until Christmas Day to decide. Hopefully, Your
Akane sighed and shook her head. 'Kuno, you idiot. I'm engaged to Ranma-
why would I want to marry you?'

It was the tenth morning, and Akane was dreading leaving her room. "What
did Kuno do for ten lords-a-leaping?" She wondered sadly. There was the
typical knocking on her door, but this time it was MUCH more enthusiastic.
"Akane, you've gotta see this one," Nabiki's voice came from the other
side. Akane shrugged, and left the room following Nabiki outside.
"Oh, now THIS is funny," Akane laughed.
Bouncing around on something resembling Ukyou's grill ring were ten
'lords,' amoung them Kuno, Kirin, Toma, Herb, and several other noblemen or
rulers who, at one time, had either kidnapped or wooed Akane. There arms
(and, in some cases, wings) had been tied up behind them, preventing them
from escaping, and someone had removed all their shoes, causing them all
leap around to try and keep their feet from burning.
Nabiki frowned. "You know, Akane, I would think Kuno wouldn't have tied
himself up and jumped into that. Maybe it's not him..."
Akane's eyes widened. "You know... you're right. But, if it wasn't him,

It was the morning of the twelfth day, and Akane woke up anxiously. It was
Christmas day itself, the day her mysterious suitor would be revealed, and
she wanted to be awake when he got there. Whoever it was, they were
probably going to be disappointed when she turned them down, but she
try to do it easily. They had tried hard, after all. In fact, if it
weren't for her engagement to Ranma, she might see what the person was
Akane quickly banished that line of thinking. She had to be kind, but
firm. She put on her clothes and left the room, surprised no-one had come
to tell her that the drummers had arrived. She went downstairs, and still
no word. In fact, she couldn't hear the drummers herself. Frowning, she
opened the front door to the house and went outside to see if she could
All she found was Ranma, leaning against the gate wall, looking rather sad.
"R- ranma!" Akane cried in surprise. "What are YOU doing here?"
Ranma shook his head as if he hadn't heard her question. "I found
everything... the partridge in a pair tree, the two turtle doves, the three
french hens, the four calling birds, the five golden rings, the six
geese-a-laying, the seven swans-a-swimming, the eight maids-a-milking, the
nine ladies dancing, the ten lords a leaping, the eleven pipers piping, and
the twelve drummers drumming. Nothing went wrong, until today-
day, when a stupid snow storm forced the plane carrying the drummers to
make an emergency landing."
Akane facefaulted. Finally, after a few minutes, her brain started working
enough to allow her to blink. Then, she blinked again. And then again.
"YOU were the one sending all those wierd gifts? WHY?"
Ranma blushed. "I thought it might be... you know... romantic."
Again, Akane face faulted. "B...but I thought you were with your
grandparents?!" was all she was able to say.
Ranma smiles slightly. "I was. My grandmother works in an aviary, and she
and grandpa helped me get all of this together. In fact, it was partially
their idea." He looked around. "Did you read the card with the rings?"
Akane, unable to say anything more, nodded. Ranma smiled wholeheartedly
this time. "Good..." He got down on one knee, and grabbed her hand.
"Akane, I know we always fight, and we don't often get along too good,
but... Akane, over the years, I've grown to love you. Will you marry me?"
Akane paused for a few seconds, and then nodded. Then she grabbed
and held him fiercely. "YES!" Ranma had just given her the most precious
christmas gift of all- his heart.
