Legalities These are my babies, but I doubt anyone will want to snatch them.

Mission Summary A lesson in tenacity: On a breezy day during the first week of school, Olahandra Teague receives one of the bigger shocks in her life; it comes in the willowy and slouching form of Regan Weiss.

Mission Statistic Warnings None I can think of.

Mission Status Report One-shot.

Pre-Mission Briefing Here's the set-up, Regan and Olahandra's history. These are some of my Beauregard girls at work, and though they attend the same school as the other kids I've been writing about and also attend during the same period of time, they're minor characters in DLL. This is them in their own story for DLL's sister storyline, Beauregard.

End briefing-Begin Document

On a breezy day during the first week of school, Olahandra Teague receives one of the bigger shocks in her life. It comes in the willowy and slouching form of Regan Weiss shuffling her Mary Jane-clad feet anxiously outside the prep's dormitory door. Olahandra briefly parts her gaze from the television set and her roommates don't so much as spare even a turn of their heads at the awkward blonde in the doorway.

"Well, enter," Olahandra says as she returns her attention to the set on the armoire.

Regan clears her throat and scrunches her eyes shut.

"Olahandra," she almost squeaks, "I need to tell you something."

Snorting lightly, Olahandra removes herself from her bed to meet her not-really-friend at the room's entrance. She places a hand on her hip impatiently and says, "Make it quick, Weiss." This isn't a situation Olahandra likes to be in, not with Lily and Nerissa in the room seeing her interact with this girl they've called buggy behind her back more times than any of them can count. Her civility with Regan is generally limited to times when no one else is around to see Olahandra's status stained by a welfare kid (or so Olahandra has always assumed Regan to be).

Regan's head faces the floor and her posture still reeks of submission, as always, but iron will and a new tenacity spark within the set of her eyes, which make direct contact with Olahandra's for the first time. This aura she exudes is different, like she's developed a spine overnight but hasn't given the rest of her body and personality a chance to realise it; Olahandra notices this, though she hides her surprise like a master.

"I just, uh, just stopped by to say," Regan mumbles, and Olahandra wonders why that spunk isn't meeting this small girl's voice, "I just thought I'd tell you you won't be seeing me anymore."

Needless to say, this, too, startles Olahandra.

"Oh, Weiss, you don't have to kill yourself," she coos, recovering, "Surely it's not that bad."

"No."

And there's that resolve.

"No," Regan repeats, "I mean, I won't be hanging out with you anymore. I've made a friend and she isn't a... uh, well... Well, she isn't like you."

"You, wait," Olahandra tries to process this, "What? You? Huh?"

If Regan has any clever wit loaded regarding the prep's sudden eloquence, she doesn't share it. She says simply, "I don't need you anymore," and steps back into the hallway as Olahandra stands wide-eyed and unmoving for a good minute or so before darting into the hallway after Regan.

"What do you mean, you 'don't need me anymore?'" Olahandra demands in favour of sounding desperate.

Regan's timid frame faces this other girl and their eyes meet once more.

"I've made a friend who doesn't laugh at me," she explains softly, "She's nice to me, nicer than you've bothered being. I followed you around because you let me and you'd talk to me when Stephanie wasn't around, but you're always a... you're always such a... Well, you're a bitch. I don't need you anymore."

She speaks those last words with such finality and authority- like nothing anyone at the school's ever heard from this soft-spoken young woman- that Olahandra doesn't press the matter further. She nods dumbly and retreats to her room, closing the door behind her before leaning against it heavily and sinking to the floor in shock.

"I don't believe it," she mutters distantly and Lily glances her way and smirks.

"Got put in your place, did you?"

End Document

Post-mission analysis I love Olahandra, really. There's more to her, naturally, but we're not ready to scratch the surface just yet. I'm writing this while on a major Canis Canem Edit/Bully kick, so my children in boarding school get to play even more.
