Boulevard of Broken Dreams
By Somewhere-I-Belong

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

Rain fell upon a body that laid in the empty street. The person who had mysteriously appeared there
minutes earlier moved slightly, signaling that they were still alive.

- - -

You remembered being in a car, crammed in with a bunch of rowdy people. It was sometime after one
o'clock in the morning, and you were getting a ride home from your cousin's party. She insisted that
you come, since you lead a secluded life. I mean, you only went out to buy groceries and other
essentials. Being socially inept and having trust issues made it hard for you to make new friends.

I walk this empty street
On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone

At last, after six hours of what you dubbed `hell`, you finally got to go home. Boy, were you
relieved. It had been a long night for you. But unfortunately, things seemed to just get worse: your
cousin was unable to bring you home, so you had to cram into a car with a bunch of drunk strangers.
Thankfully you had brought your CD player and headphones, which made the ride a little more
bearable. But still… you were tired and crabby, and you were this close to telling
everyone to shut the hell up.

You didn't get the chance.

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a

It all happened so fast... Someone up front screamed and the driver slammed on the brakes. You could
hear the tires skid loudly against the pavement as the car swerved wildly. There were more screams,
but they were cut off by the sound of crunching metal and shattering glass. For a second, you felt
yourself being thrown forward before everything went black.

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Sometime later, you finally opened your eyes. You cringed slightly as tiny droplets of water stung
them.

You were still alive? But how could that be? You weren't able to wear a seat belt…

Rapidly blinking the rain away, you did a quick mental check of your body. Although your arms
and back were a bit sore, you were in no pain at all. With that out of the way, you finally took in
your surroundings.

``…''

Okay, you weren't laying in a dark ditch along a lonely stretch of road… you were
laying in the middle of a town that doesn't look like it would exist in your country… so just
where the hell where you?
I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the borderline of the edge
And where I walk alone
Read between the lines of what's
Fucked up and every thing's alright
Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive
And I walk alone

A flutter of red fabric caught your attention. Deciding it was okay for you to move, you slowly
pushed yourself up into a sitting position. Looking up, you found a man in a red cloak standing
before you. With his
long raven black hair, it seem to accent his piercing crimson eyes. One would find his appearance
intimidating, but it didn't bother you. You guessed that he probably wanted to know why you were out
in the middle of the street.

Your hazel eyes darted to the ground as you wondered what happened to the other people in the car.
Even though they were strangers, you still felt bad for them. Pulling your legs close to your chest,
you bit your lip, recalling what happened earlier.

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a

``I was in a vehicle... an accident...'' You replied quietly as you started to space out. Short but
vivid bits of the accident returned to you... the sights and sounds were painfully fresh. You
couldn't help but shudder a bit. ``I was thrown... don't know how I ended up here... alive...''

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Silence. Your gaze wandered back to the man's face. It lacked any general expression. Furrowing your
eyebrows a bit, your gaze dropped back to the ground as you hugged yourself tighter.

``Its true.''

He mostly likely didn`t believe you… it did sound kind of farfetched. There was nothing
around to show you had indeed been in an automobile accident.

I walk alone
I walk a

You jumped slightly when your CD player suddenly came to life. That was odd... you still had it on
you and it wasn't damaged? The man's gaze flickered to it, looking at it impassively.

``Its a CD Player... it plays music. Why don't you give it a try?'' You suggested as you removed the
headphones from around your neck and held them up to him. ``Those go over the ears... Its okay,
they're safe.''

More silence. Then after several moments, he finally took the headphones and carefully placed them
over his ears. You quickly adjusted the volume and played a new song for this mysterious person.

I walk this empty street
On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a

As he listened to a song, you noticed that his left arm, from below the elbow down, was made out of
some type of gold colored metal. A small smile appeared on your face.

``Is that a prosthetic?'' You asked when he carefully handed you back the headphones. When he didn't
give an answer, you put your CD player away and rolled up your right pant leg.

``See? I have one myself.'' You said, pointing to your prosthetic. It made up the lower half of your
right leg. ``It got crushed in an accident when I was nine.''

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Your smile faded as you let your pant leg fall back down.

``... Where am I?'' You finally asked.

Silence again. The rain had tapered off into a lit drizzle, but it was close to sunset. You were
practically soaking wet now and it wasn't exactly warm out either. And to your embarrassment, you
were shaking. You were self conscious, which was part of the reason you were so reclusive.

What was going to happen to you now?

``You're in Edge...'' The man finally answered you.

You blinked in surprise. So he did speak... wow, he had a deep voice. It made you think of dark
chocolate, for some reason. Slowly looking back up, you found that he had his hand extended out to
you. His face still showed nothing, yet by this simple gesture, he showed you that he was willing to
help you out, even though you were a stranger to him.

``Thanks a lot. Really.'' You said with another small smile as you took a hold of his metal hand. He
wordlessly helped you to your feet before turning to go.

``My name is Kira. Kira Mye.'' You introduced yourself. Normally, you would wait for the other
person to introduce them self, but you stangely felt comfortable enough to tell him your name
first.

``Vincent.'' The man with the red cloak replied without turning around. ``Vincent Valentine.''

``Well, Vincent, its nice to meet you.'' You said before started to follow him. Who knows? If all
goes well, maybe you can start over again here...

And maybe you won't have to be the only one to walk the empty street of the boulevard of broken
dreams.
