Have You Ever Loved Somebody? (one-shot)
By iHeartSebby27

``Hey Jen.'' I smiled as I walked past her in the hallway.

``Oh hey Pierre!'' She smiled and waved and walked in the other direction.

I sighed and watched as she walked down the hallway. I don't know what it was about her that made me
fall head over heels in love. I didn't know if it was her crystal brown eyes or the way her hips
would sway when she walked. I loved her more then I could ever explain to anyone and yet I was
supposed to be her friend. I had betrayed her in such a way I could never tell her.

I shared many classes with her which didn't help me to try and convince myself that I wasn't deeply
in love with this woman. She speaks and my heart skips a beat, and when she talks to me it hurts
that I'm not the one she's wishing for at night. It felt like my entire life was dangling in her
hands and she was playing a fun new yo-yo trick.

Did you ever love somebody?
So much that the earth moved
Did you ever love somebody?
Even though it hurt to
Did you ever love somebody?
Nothing else your heart could do
Did you ever love somebody?
Who never knew

Of course my English teacher had to be the cruel woman she was an assign her and I as partners on a
project. Now, any normal person would be thanking their teacher for setting up alone time with the
one they loved, but I was all to nervous. Yes, she was my best friend, but how do you tell someone
you've known forever that you've betrayed their trust and fallen in love with them?

She showed up at my house and I bit my nails as we walked up the steps. We had worked on our project
until just about all our planning was done and we just had to put the pieces together. It was
getting late and I could tell that she was getting tired. She rested her head on my shoulder and
sighed.

``I don't know what I would do if I didn't have a best friend like you.'' She smiled as I turned my
head.

My heart shattered as my secret got pushed further and further down to the pit of my stomach.
Everyday I would pray she would come running to me or anything and tell me how deeply she had felt
about me, but as I waited, that day never came. Lately all it seemed was that god was playing a
cruel joke on me. He was dangling her in front of me and saying how much I would never get her.

Did you ever lay your head down
On the shoulder of a good friend
And then had to look away somehow
Had to hide the way you felt for them
Have you ever prayed the day would come
You'd hear them say they feel it too
Did you ever love someone?
Who never knew

It was our last day of working on our project together and I finally mustered all the courage I
could and decided to tell her how deeply I felt about her. If she didn't feel the same, oh well. It
would take some time, but I would eventually move on.

We finished our project early and I watched as she laid back on my bed and let out a long breath.
God, she looked so beautiful with no make-up on and her hair just thrown up into a pony-tail. This
was it. This was the time I had to pour my heart out to her.

``Jen, I think we need to talk.'' I smiled slightly at her.

``Sure Pie, what's up?'' She asked looking at me.

``I know you and I have been friends for as long as I can remember and you know I would never do
anything to mess that up. I've been holding something back that I've been too scared to tell you but
I finally got the courage. I don't care if it changes your outlook on me but I can't live with this
anymore.'' I said looking at her.

``What are you talking about?'' She raised an eyebrow.

``Look Jen, I'm in love with you. I don't how and I sure as hell don't know why, but I wanna find
that out. I can't figure out if it's the way you walk, or talk, or the way you squint your eyes at
the chalkboard because you refuse to wear your glasses, but I'm head over heels in love with my best
friend. When you speak to me, my heart skips a beat…or 12. I just wanna know how you feel and
if you have the same feelings for me as I have for you. If you don't, I totally understand, but I
don't want it to ruin what we have.'' I poured my heart out to her.

``I love you too.'' She leaned over and kissed me passionately.

And if you did
Well you know I'd understand
I could, I would
More than anybody can
Did you ever love somebody?
So much that the earth moved
Did you ever love somebody?
Even though it hurt to

I woke up with a jump and I was sweating pretty profusely. I looked around my room and I
realized everything that had just happened was all a dream. I dropped my head and buried my face in
my pillow. The excitement I had about telling my one true love my feelings was all just a dream.

I got ready for school and walked into the hallway seeing her standing around talking to some
friends and that's when my friend started to skip and my world stopped. Honestly, there is nothing
else my heart can do but hold this secret love, for a girl who believes I'm just a best friend to
her and not a secret lover.

Did you ever love somebody?
Nothing else your heart could do
Did you ever love somebody?
Like I love you
Like I love you
Like I love you
