Goodbye Frank
By versedladyjade

What are you supposed to do when the one thing that brought joy into your miserable existenace no longer does? If you are like me, you try to escape the misery by using drugs and alcohol. They don't take away the pain and sadness, but they make you forget it for a short while. It got to be that I was drunk and wasted all the time. I almost killed myself because of it. I lost friends and family, pretty much everyone but him. Frank wouldn't give up on me or let me give up on myself. He was the one who would take care of me when I was too far gone to take care of myself. When I decided to get clean, it was because of him. I hated to see the pain and disappointment in his eyes when I would come stumbling in, drunk and high again. When I went through withdrawls, he was there holding me, telling me that things would get better soon and that he loved me and wouldn't let anything hurt me again. He was my rock and the one person that loved me unconditionally. Frank made me believe that not only could I get clean and sober, but that I would stay that way. He gave me back my faith in myself.

Yeah, Frank and I loved each other, but we weren't in love with each other. The stuff we did in public was for show only. He was my other half, my better half, and I should be the one in the casket, not him. He deserves to be with his wife and children. They were the loves of his life. I no longer have a wife, because I pushed her away. I didn't think I deserved her love and Lyn-Z just couldn't take it anymore. One night we had and fight and she yelled that she was sorry that she couldn't be Frank and maybe I should have married him instead. When I told Frank what she said he just laughed and said "Okay. Let's go get married and make our fans Frerard dreams come true." I just looked at him for a moment and started to laugh as well. He was always doing that, making me laugh at the bad things in life. He once told me that life was terminal, no one gets out alive.

I was devastated when he told me that he had cancer. By the time they found it, it was too advanced to do much for him. They sent him home and Jamia and I took turns caring for him. He would tell me that I was fianlly paying him back from when he took care of me while going through withdrawls. The last night of his life was a tough one for me. He was fighting leaving us. Jamia and I told him it was ok, that we would carry on through our pain and to just let go. He told me he would save me a spot right next to him in the black parade. I told him that I loved him and that I would take care of his family for him. Jamia promised to take care of the kids and me. When he died it was in Jamia's and my arms, just how he wanted it.

I got to say my private goodbyes that night, but now I want to say good bye to him publicly; I love you Frank, you were the one good thing in my life. Everything I had, was because of you. With your help, I got clean and sober, I got my family back and I got to touch the lives of millions of people with our music. When my time comes, I will be looking forward to seeing you and playing with you in the Black Parade once again. You made me a better person, because I wanted to show you that your faith in me wasn't wasted. Thank you for your love and friendship for all these years. I will never forget you and I will never let anyone else forget you either.
