Just Like The Good
Chapter 2: Just Like The Good Ole Days…
My energy level dropped suddenly and I could feel myself starting to become shy and reserved. It
seemed like ages we just stood there, staring at one another, until Brendon came and jumped on my
“Tracy, this is Jon. He replaced Brent as our bassist.” Jon held out his hand, which I
took….I liked him already.
“It's nice to meet you Jon. I'm Tracy.”
“Hey Ryzor! Aren't you gonna come say hi?!?!?” Brendon yelled in my ear. Ryan came up,
almost cautiously, and stood beside Jon.
“Hey Ryan,” I said in what I hoped was a calm and normal voice.
“Hi Tracy. You- you look good.”
“Thanks. You too.” We all stood there in awkward silence until Danielle raced by.
“I call shot gun!” Brendon's lips grew into a huge grin and started running after her,
closely followed by Spencer.
“To the Brendon-mobile!!”
“Brendon, no! Stop! You are NOT driving my truck! Brendon!”
“Some things never change,” I said, laughing under my breath. I could've swore I heard
Ryan mumble something about agreeing with me, but I blew it off. The three of us started walking to
the truck together.
“So,” Jon started, “how long have you known these goons?”
“Spencer and Ryan since the seventh grade and Brendon since the summer between nine and
“Way back then. And you're in college now?”
“Yup. Just finished my second year. I'm Ryan's age.”
“I see.” Jon looked over at Ryan, who was silent, and gave him a weird look.
“What's with you, Ry? You've been acting really weird since we got here.” Ryan just
“He's probably upset because he didn't realize his ex-girlfriend would be coming along.”
I blurted out uncharacteristically.
Everyone, including me, seemed shocked at my words. To get myself out of the awkward situation, I
winked at them and ran ahead to the truck. I jumped on Brendon's back, giving Spencer a chance to
slip into the driver's seat.
I looked back as Brendon carried me around piggyback style and couldn't help but notice how sad Ryan

“He's probably just upset because he didn't realize his ex-girlfriend would be coming
along.” I stood there, shocked that she had said that. She seemed shocked too but, in her
usually fashion, covered it up by winking and running away.
She always looks adorable when she ran, with her hair- no, wait, I can't be having these thoughts,
not after two years. I'm the one that ended it. But, I don't think I really ever stopped loving
Jealousy surged through my veins when she jumped onto Brendon, who started carrying her around the
“Ryan, stop acting so strangely. This is supposed to be a fun day. Don't ruin it with your
moping over some old relationship that was over two years ago,” Jon told me as we reached the
truck. If only it was that easy.

I slid into the center seat with Tracy sitting to my right and Jon to my left. Spencer, Ryan, and
Danielle were sitting up front. I looked over at Tracy and just drank in the sight of her. She has
definitely matured quite a bit over the past two years. She was no longer that pretty high school
girl, but a beautiful adult. Her body was definitely even more toned than when she left. Probably
from all her dancing.
“So what are we gonna do today?” Jon asked, pulling me back to reality. Tracy and
Danielle looked at each other before answering in unison.
“The strip it is then,” Spencer said, turning onto the freeway.
“Ah, just like old times during those good old high school days,” I said, putting my
feet up on Jon and laying my head on Tracy's lap. Jon pushed my feet off, but I put them right back
on, earning myself a rolling of the eyes and a giggle from Tracy. She started playing with my hair
like she used to do with all of us. It sent shivers down my spine every time her fingertips touched
my head. I missed her so much.
“Yeah, it is,” she agreed, “my little sister always tagging along.”
“Hey! Us younger people have to stick together. Isn't that right Dell?” I asked, jumping
“Ha ha. So right Bden.” I leaned forward to give her a high five.
“You too Spence. You're younger than me even!” I tapped the top of his head and as I did
so, I caught Ryan's eye. He looked like he was trying to burn holes in my head by the way he glaring
at me. I wondered what his problem was…
