------------------------------------------------------------------------

She was very new to this world, and wasn't very trusting of anyone
any more. Before, she would foolishly go out and try and make friends
with people, but they all hurt her. All of them.
So she was left all alone, her strange psychic abilities being her
only company. She sat alone, and unnoticed on a ferry to Viridian City,
feeling quite sad. She had thought that she had finally found someone
she could trust, a young boy who she had bravely gone up too, and he had
been so nice to her.
She was so happy, but she had only walked beside him for a few
minutes before he fell back and attacked her. She trusted him so much,
and he attacked her for no reason, just like all the others!
But she didn't fight, she ran. Ran away as fast as she could from
the boy she thought cared for her, and kept running until she was miles
away, still with tears running down her cheeks. She had been too quick
to trust him, like she always was, but never again! She didn't need
friends, she could get by all on her own!
But she knew this wasn't true. As long as she could remember all
she had ever wanted, more than _anything_ was a friend. Someone to set
her free of the cold, painful loneliness that had been her existence.
She found herself sobbing, tears dripping onto the vinyl floor of
her hiding place on the ferry. How she hated being alone, but it was
all she had ever been. She managed to stop herself crying so she
wouldn't attract attention.
She was alone, and maybe that was how she was meant to be. One
doesn't always like one's destiny, if there is such a thing, but one
usually has to live with it. She contemplated her loneliness, wanting
to cry again, but being able to repress her tears.
Then she felt something. Something so warm. It entered her mind,
and warmed her entire body; it was like taking joy and wrapping herself
in it like a blanket.
It was not coming out of nowhere though, it was coming from
somewhere else. _Someone_ else. Someone like her, with the ability to
use their minds to accomplish some extraordinary feats.
She stood up from her little hideaway in a discreet unused room
that had a leather barrier over the door, with the top folded down,
leaving the top half of the door open, and the bottom half closed. She
jumped up and looked over the top of the leather barrier and surveyed
the surroundings outside of her hiding place, looking for the one that
bought her warmth.
People that looked in her direction, didn't pay her any concern,
because she didn't choose to be seen. One of the few abilities she had
at the moment, was to make herself seem insignificant to anyone who
looked at her, by putting a suggestion in the minds of everyone nearby
that might notice her. She often wondered if she had other abilities,
but she wasn't thinking about that now, she wanted to find the one like
her. The warm one.
She opened up her mind to it, so the warmth became greater, and
closed her eyes contentedly before realising where the warm one was.
She opened her eyes, and looked directly at him.
He was sitting on one of the benches on the Ferry, spinning a
pencil in his fingers. He was a very handsome young man, looking about
16 to 18 years old, and was wearing a long black pair of trousers, a
nice white silk shirt with one of those Texas style string ties, which
was held around his neck with a stylish metal clip, that resembled the
head of a pokemon. A Persian. The man also had an fine black pair of
boots, and a long ankle length coat, that really looked good on him and
there was a black sports bag on the seat next to him. His hair was
black, and was semi long with hundreds of locks hanging down the sides
and back of his head around mid ear level, though it was longer at the
back.
She sensed a number of other minds within the folds of his coat,
and soon realised they were pokemon within their pokeballs. She reached
out to the man's pokemon mentally, and they were all content. Happy to
be sleeping in the pokeballs belonging to their master.
She looked at the man again, and watched him spinning his pencil
within his fingers, but after zooming in with another of her psychic
abilities, realised that the pencil was being spun mid air, above his
outstretched fingers. He was using his mind to suspend and move the
pencil, but any passer by wouldn't notice because the way he did it made
it appear he was using his hands and not his mind.
That was where the warmth was coming from. He was using his mind,
and she had picked up on it, the similarities and compatibility between
them being so great that her brain had sent it to her body as warmth.
They were the same, he and she! Soul mates! She had finally found a
friend.
She stopped herself from running straight up to him, and let
herself fall back behind the leather barrier she had been peeking up
from. She had thought she had found a friend many times before, and had
only been hurt. She wouldn't allow anyone to hurt her like that again!
She couldn't trust him.
She looked from behind her hiding place again, looked at the
handsome young man, and sighed. He _did_ make her feel happy, even
though he didn't even know she existed yet. But to be hurt by him would
be like being hurt by the others a hundred times!
She would die if that happened, so she couldn't trust or love this
man. But she couldn't just let him slip away either! She couldn't bear
the thought of not feeling the happiness he gave off.
But she still couldn't let him see her. She would just watch him
for a while, follow him, and hide herself from his eyes and mind. Maybe
in time she will see if she could trust him. She would see if this
warmth was meant to last, or if it was just a cruel joke of fate.
If he was like the others, and she couldn't be with him without
being hurt, then she didn't know what she would do. This man could make
her happier than anyone, or could hurt her equally as much. If it was
the latter that was true, she didn't want to live. Not without him.
She continued to watch him. Hope was all she had.

***

James leaned over the fence that was erected around the edges of
the ferry to keep people falling off, and looked to the city they were
approaching. It looked a little more foreboding than usual, seeing as
their destination was the new Team Rocket Headquarters.
"How can we go to see the Boss empty handed?!" he asked in his
annoying whining tone. "I know he sent for us, but we haven't caught a
single pokemon in ages, and if we don't fork a couple of decent ones to
him soon, we could get..."
He was cut off by his red haired partner, when she slapped him
around the back of the head. "Well maybe if you spent less time
whining, and more time stealing, the boss wouldn't think we were such
screw ups!" Jessie snapped.
"No sweat you two, as usual Meowth has a plan!" their talking
meowth reassured, pulling out a device from behind him that resembled a
hand held video game, confusing both Jessie and James as to where he had
been keeping it, because he had no pockets. Or clothing for that
matter.
"What's that?" Jessie and James asked in unison, looking on the
device resembling Nintendo Gameboy with a large red R printed on the
back of it.
"A Gameboy?" James asked. "Ooooh, lets play Pokemon Yell..." He
was cut off by Jessie clouting him over the back of the head again. He
cowered away rubbing his sore scalp. "Ow!"
"No, numbskull!" Meowth said, without losing his usual wit. "This
is the latest in pokemon swipin' technology!" It started to beep when
he turned it on, and he started pointing it and numerous passengers on
the boat, one after the other. "This thing detects pokeballs, with
pokemon in em! There's bound to be a pokemon trainer or two on this
boat, all we gotta do is swipe their pokemon!"
"And then the boss won't call us complete morons!" Jessie said,
clapping her hands together in a delighted gesture.
James decided to remain silent this time, hoping to avoid another
slap from his partner. They were all startled when the device Meowth
was scanning the passengers with went crazy, starting to beep loudly and
flash like a Christmas tree.
"Bingo!" he said victoriously, pointing his gadget at one of the
passengers sitting on one of the benches. "This guy's loaded! With
pokemon, that is."
Team Rocket looked into the direction of their target, the three
of them almost drooling in anticipation. The man sat innocently by,
wearing a long black coat that could probably hold a thousand pokeballs.
Sitting there all ready to be ripped off, spinning a pencil between his
fingers.

***

He sat on his bench, using his mental abilities to cause a pencil
to levitate a centimetre above his outstretched fingertips, and spin in
a circular motion. He moved his fingers to make it appear that he was
just fidgeting.
He had been born with psychic abilities, and it had allowed him to
become a great pokemon trainer, because he could always sense when
something was wrong with his pokemon, and he had been able to learn how
to understand their language.
He mentally reached out to the pokemon in his coat, and found them
all content. If any of them ever weren't, he would always let them out
to find out what was wrong, but he didn't usually keep as many on him as
the fifty he had with him today. But it was necessary.
All of a sudden, these two idiots ran straight up to him. One of
them was a blue haired man in a pair of blue pants, a blue blazer, a
white shirt and a pair of black leather shoes, with a camera rested on
his shoulder.
While the other person was a woman, who had a hairstyle that said
'I use too much hair spray,' and was wearing a blue miniskirt, matching
blazer and pumps, and a white blouse, and was holding a microphone, that
was connected to the man's camera.
The woman jammed her microphone into his face, with the dumbest
smile he had ever seen. "Hello, where doing a documentary on pokemon
and their trainers, are you a pokemon trainer?" she asked, cheerfully.
"Aren't there millions of documentaries like that?" the man asked,
slipping his pencil into the pocket of his pants. "I really thought
only complete idiots still made those."
The woman's smile suddenly changed from an overly cheerful one, to
a deadly looking scowl, but she forced herself to smile again. "Why
don't you show us how many pokemon you have?" she asked, seeming far too
enthusiastic to be normal.
He sighed to himself, frustrated, but decided to just play along.
"Yeah, okay." he said opening up his coat, and revealing more than fifty
pokeballs, all with pokemon in them.
The reporter and her cameraman both started to drool, but quickly
composed themselves, and she jammed the microphone right back into his
face again.
"Wow, that's a lot of pokemon!" she said, before taking a piece of
the material from his sleeve between her thumb and forefinger. "And
this coat is nice too. Isn't it from the House of Clefairy in Viridian
City?"
The man smiled. This woman obviously knew a bit about clothes.
He didn't really like the name of the clothing store, The House of
Clefairy, but they did always make him look good in his clothes.
"Yes that's right." he replied, brightening a little. "Only the
best for me and my pokemon."
"Oh it's so soft." she said, gently stroking his arm. He suddenly
noticed she was really quite attractive, even though her hairdo did defy
gravity. "Can I try it on?"
He looked into her eyes, as a somehow malicious smile appeared on
her lips. "Yeah sure." he said with a smile, slipping it off of his
shoulders, pokemon and all, and gently helping to put it on her. "How's
that?"
"Mmmmm, nice and cozy." she said hugging herself, and sending a
quick look to her cameraman. "So nice in fact, I think I'll keep it!"
She suddenly turned around and threw a tiny metallic ball to the
ground that exploded into smoke, clouding the entire deck of the ferry.
He coughed from the smoke, and tried to find the thieving
reporters, and as the smoke cleared he found them, out of their
reporters outfits and into white ones with an R on each of their tank
tops. They then proceeded to say the most irritating poem he had ever
heard.
"Prepare for trouble." the woman said.
"And make it double." the man added.
From here on he just stopped listening, and this is all he could
make out.
"Blah blah blah blah blah devastation."
"Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah nation."
"Blah blah blah blah blah truth and love."
"Blah blah blah blah blah blah above."
"Jessie."
"James."
He listened on, ready to fall asleep, when a talking meowth jumped
from the remaining smoke and said, "Meowth, that's right!"
He had always been fond of meowths, so he didn't like seeing one
act like such an idiot.
"We'd love to stick around, but we have a very important
appointment we just can't miss!" Jessie said, before laughing
maniacally.
"And the more the merrier!" James added, holding up the man's
Jacket with a wicked smile.
They ran to the edge of the boat, and jumped off. They had timed
their theft quite well because the ferry had reached the Viridian City
Docks, so they landed safely on land, and headed straight for a waiting
black van with a red R printed on the side. They boarded and took off
along the docks, then drove around a corner, and out of sight.
Their victim stood watching them, and smiled, before shaking his
head. He picked up his black sports bag that lay beside him, that held
some personal items, money, food and his unused pokeballs. He walked to
the ramp that led from the ferry to the docks, and returned to land.
Dominic walked down the docks towards the main road, to hail a
taxi. He was going to get his pokemon back very soon.

***

Smiling?! Those two people had stolen all of his pokemon, and he
was smiling?! How could he be so cold?
She jumped out from her hiding place, and followed the warm one,
looking a little deeper into his mind. She calmed a little when she did
that, because she found that it wasn't that he didn't care for his
pokemon, but that he knew he was soon going to get them back.
She decided to keep following him, even though she was unsure what
to make of his lack of worry. She found herself hiding from time to
time, because now and again he would turn and look in her direction. He
seemed to be sensing her presence, but fortunately he made nothing of
it.
She would follow the warm one to the ends of the earth if she had
to, just to see if she could be his friend. She looked into his mind
again, this time for his name.
Yes, he had to be the one for her. But she couldn't rush into it,
she had to find out more about him by watching what he does and how he
treats other people, because she wasn't experienced enough with her
psychic abilities to get everything she needed to know straight from his
mind. If she _could_ do that, it may have saved her a whole lot of
heartache in the past.
She found his name. And such a handsome one it was too.
He continued down the road, then hailed a taxi. When he climbed
in, she managed to unlock the trunk with her mind and climbed in
unnoticed. Wherever Dominic was going, she was going to follow. She
would follow him anywhere.

***

"... 49... 50!" Meowth said victoriously, from the back of the
van, after counting the pokeballs clipped to the interior of the stolen
coat. "A cool 50 pokemon!"
"And they're all ours!" Jessie added in delight.
"Open them, Meowth!" James said, while keeping his eyes on the
road, seeing as he was driving the van. "Let's see what kind of pokemon
we got!"
The talking pokemon faltered. "The last time we did that, every
single one was a Voltorb." he said, seeming hesitant to open one of the
enlarged pokeballs in his hand.
Jessie and James shared an unsure glance.
"Okay." Jessie said. "Get right in the back of the van, far away
from us and open just one of them."
"Hey, why do I have ta do all the dirty work?" Meowth protested.
"Well I'm driving!" James said, with a very smug smile appearing
on his face.
"And I tricked the guy into handing over his jacket!" Jessie
added, giving Meowth an evil glare that was worse than one from her
Arbok. "Now don't be a scaredy Meowth!"
"Okay!" he surrendered, moving closer to the back of the van. He
pulled out one of the pokeballs from the long coat, enlarged it, before
opening it up and allowing a lot of red energy to emerge and form into
the shape of a small creature.
"Hey!" Jessie said, excitedly. "A charmeleon!"
The people on the streets outside the moving van were startled by
the vicious roar, "CHAAAAARRR!!!" and the obvious glow of flame from
within their van, and the screams of three people within.
"AHHHHHH!" James shrieked. "My hair's on fire! Put it out, put
it out!"
"CHAAAARRRR!! MEEEELION!"
There was another explosion of light from within the van, then
Jessie's hideous shriek.
"Recall it Meowth!!"
"Return!" Meowth said, before the violent pokemon returned to his
pokeball.
Back within the van, the entire interior, and all of the
inhabitants were badly scorched.
"Open another one!" James said enthusiastically.
"Are you going funny in the head?!" Meowth asked, poking his
temple in an insulting gesture.
"They can't all be that bad tempered!" Jessie said, agreeing with
James. "Open another one!"
Back outside the van people walking down the street were once
again startled by the sounds coming from within the passing vehicle.
"Okay, how about this one!" Meowth said, before the sound of a
pokeball releasing it's pokemon sounded. "Hey it's a...."
"Pika... CHUUUUUUUU!!!"
Electricity glowed within the van, lighting up the windows, and
more screams emerged.
"Put it back, put it baaaaack!!" James whined.
"Return!" Meowth yelled. "How about this one?"
"GOOOOLEEEEM!!!!"
A large dent suddenly appeared in the side of the van shaped like
a meowth, and then a silent groan from someone who sounded really badly
hurt.
"Re... retuuuurn..." Meowth moaned.
"Open another one!" Jessie ordered.
"You open it!" Meowth growled, not willing to get hurt again.
"Fine!" she yelled back. "I'll pick this one."
"Wartortle?" a confused pokemon said. "WARTORTLE!!!"
Water ran over the inside of each of the windows in the van, and
keeping anyone from outside from seeing in. Yet again screams came from
within.
"My uniform is ruined!" Jessie cried.
"This is terrible for my hair!" James added.
"No, not water!" Meowth cried. "Meowth hates wat... gurgle!"
"WARTORTLE TORTLE WARTORTLE!!!!"
"Retur... gargle!" Jessie gurgled. "RETURN!!!!"
The van stopped by the road and the back doors suddenly swung
open, and gallons of water flowed out. Jessie, James and Meowth came
stumbling out looking terrible. They were burnt, electrocuted, beaten
and soaking wet.
"That guy has some nasty pokemon." James commented, breathing
irregularly.
"Nice taste in clothes though." Jessie admitted, holding up the
coat as she replaced Wartortle's pokeball. "It's stylish and pokemon
proof. It isn't even damp, or singed."
"Hey guys, we're here!" Meowth said, pointing up to a multiple
storey building, the a large red R above the main entrance.
They all looked up to the building and started to become worried.
"We can't go and see the Boss like this!" James whined, looking
down on his singed, soaking wet uniform.
"But if we change, and fix our hair, we'll be late, and the Boss
hates tardiness!" Jessie cried in distress, as she fell dramatically
into her partner's arms.
"Well Meowth is always prepared." he said happily, as he started
to lick his fur so it was neat and clean. "I'm gonna make you two look
like slobs!"
Jessie and James both attacked the poor meowth, Jessie
continuously stepping on his head, while James started dropping his
elbow into his spine.
"If we're going to see the boss like this, so are you!!" Jessie
hissed.
"Yeah, don't you know the meaning of team loyalty?!" James added,
as he started to kick Meowth in the ribs.
"Okay, OKAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!" Meowth cried, before Jessie picked him
up roughly by the scruff of the neck, the threw the stolen coat over her
shoulder. The three of them walked into the building and into the lobby
and pressed the button for the elevator.
The lobby was massive, and well lit. It's floor was covered with
red woolen carpeting, and various pot plants lined walls that were made
of fine polished marble. The roof was about three stories up, and there
was a massive circular stained glass window above the main clear glass
doors they had just come through.
"I bet the Boss won't even notice the mess we're in, when we hand
over all these pokemon." Jessie said, optimistically.
"Yes, we might even get promoted!" James added happily, as the
elevator door opened, and they all stepped in.
"Meeeoooowwwth!" Meowth groaned, still not recovering from the
beating he had just received.
Jessie hit the button for the top floor, and then noticed the
elevator music playing.
"The new headquarters is nicer the old one." she commented. "I
wonder what happened to the other one anyway."
"It looked like a pokemon flying out of the building when it blew
up." James said, looking back to the time their boss had nearly been
crushed by tonnes of rubble from the collapsing headquarters.
"No pokemon's that powerful!" she said clouting James over his
head again, causing him to cower.
"WILL YOU STOP HITTING ME?!?!?" he squealed girlishly. "In case
you didn't notice my head was just on fire, and is extremely sensitive!"
"Don't be such a baby, James." she snapped, smacking him around
the back of the head again.
Before James could retaliate, a loud bell sounded, and the
elevator doors opened on the top floor. They all stepped out into a
dimly lit hall, with Persian style carpeting, and red wallpaper, with a
number of oak tables and framed paintings lining the walls. The hall
was quite creepy, and they walked uncertainly down it, towards a massive
pair of dark brown double doors at the end.
They all walked straight up to the double doors and stopped before
it, as Jessie walked up to it and was about to knock.
"Come in, you three!" their Boss' voice boomed from inside, before
Jessie even touched the door.
The three of them looked at each other surprised and all spoke at
the same time. "How'd he know we were h..."
"NOW, IMBECILES!!!" There Boss snapped from within his office. "I
haven't got all day!"
They stumbled over each other for the door, and finally got it
open, then ran before the boss' desk and stood in front of it, trying to
look as proud as they could in the terrible condition they were in.
The office was darker than the hall, its carpet and wallpaper
being the same, but most everything within his large office was hidden
in shadow. The large exquisite oak desk before them was quite visible,
but everything behind it, including their employer was also hidden in
the shadows.
"What happened to you three?" he growled, sounding displeased.
"We... er..." Jessie looked to James before continuing. "We had
some trouble with the pokemon we captured for you!" she said proudly
holding up the stolen coat, so the pokeballs within were all plain to
see.
Their boss leaned forward, but didn't come out of the shadows as
he did so. "You actually captured some pokemon?" he asked. "And by the
looks of what they have done to you, they're powerful. Maybe there's
hope for you three yet."
"Thank you Boss!" the three of them said, beaming proudly.
"And then again, maybe not." he finished, startling them.
"Jessie, James, Meowth, I want you to meet someone."
An un-noticed man stepped out from the shadows, where he was
standing behind their Boss' desk, and walked into the light, wearing
quite a smug smile.
"You three." the Boss continued. "Meet my nephew."
"Hello." he greeted, his smug smile widening. "I'm Dominic. And
I'd like my pokemon back please."
"We ripped off the Boss' nephew?!" Meowth cried.
"Oh, are we in trouble!" James added.
Dominic pulled a tiny pokeball from the pockets of his pants, and
enlarged it. "I always keep a spare outside of my coat." he explained,
before throwing the ball to the floor, as it snapped open. "Mynx, go!"
A sleek well muscled female Persian emerged from the ball, then
looked towards the thieving trio.
"Perrrsian!" she growled.
"Mynx, show them your tail whip, fury swipes combination." Dominic
ordered.
Mynx's tail looked somewhat more developed than those of other
Persians, so when she ran up and span around, swiping her victims ankles
with her tail, they were all swept from their feet. And while they were
still in mid air, Mynx swiped at them all, a dozen times with her claws,
sending them flying backwards at top speed where they impacted with the
wall, leaving a massive crater.
Jessie threw the coat up into the air as this happened, and it
flew across the room, and Dominic caught it, then slipped it back over
his shoulders.
"Ahhhh, that's better." he whispered. Mynx came up to him and
affectionately stroked up against his legs, and purred as he scratched
her behind her ears. "Good girl, Mynx."
"So how should I punish them Dominic?" The Boss, Giovanni asked.
"I leave the decision to you."
The trio groaned in displeasure, but didn't say anything.
"Oh, I was hoping they would try to steal my pokemon, uncle." he
replied, smugly. "I arranged for them to get hold of that pokemon
detector, and had most of my pokemon with me to make myself their
target."
The Boss rose an eyebrow, and the trio managed to get up from
their places laying on the floor, all three of them having nasty
scratches on their clothing and skin.
"Why?" James asked, before being hit by Jessie again for
questioning the Boss' nephew.
"Good question." Dominic replied. "Uncle?"
His uncle didn't seem to have any problem with explaining for his
nephew, which was unusual, because he didn't like doing anything for
others. "Dominic here, is a prominent member of Team Rocket, and I've
given him the job of teaching you complete morons to make me more money
than you cost me!"
"I thought you said he wasn't going to call us complete morons!"
James whined to Jessie, before getting smacked again.
"Do you know how much money in vehicles, and robots you've cost
Team Rocket over the past year?" Dominic asked. "Especially those
balloons with your face on them!" he added, looking in Meowth's
direction.
The trio all looked to each other, then back to Dominic and all
shrugged their shoulders.
He pulled out a calculator and started typing. "Hmmm, subtracting
the money that you've made over the past year... Which is pretty much
nothing, except for the cash you made doing _honest_ work at the pokemon
League..." he continued to type in his calculation, and cringed when he
read the outcome. "I don't think you want to know." he said returning
his calculator to his pocket.
"I think he's right." James whispered to Jessie, before covering
his head and preparing for another smacking.
Jessie just nodded in agreement this time, and James wiped his
brow.
"I'm assigning Dominic as leader of your team." the Boss said.
"This is the last chance I'm giving you three, if Dominic can't shape
you up, then I'll have to fire you."
"The only reason he hasn't done it already, is because up until
about a year ago you were bringing in a lot of pokemon." Dominic
explained. "But ever since you've been going after that kid..." he
thought for a moment. "What's his name? Ash?"
The three nodded.
"Well you've been concentrating on him, and very little else." he
continued. "How can a ten year old boy get the better of the team that
pulled of one of the best heists I've ever seen?"
"It's his blasted pikachu!" Jessie complained, with a pout.
"Yes, it's unbeatable!" James added. "No matter what we do, we
can't seem to catch it!"
"Oh, I've examined your files." Dominic explained. "Catching
pokemon isn't your problem, it's keeping them."
Jessie, James and Meowth all seemed to become intrigued.
"I think you and your pokemon require a bit of training." he mused
out loud. "But first you should go to the Team Rocket infirmary, and
get yourselves fixed up. Be back here tomorrow at first light."
As they left, Dominic turned to his uncle. "So how about a battle
for my Earth Badge?"
"I thought you didn't want the Earth Badge because you thought I'd
go easy on you." his uncle mused.
"Well I doubt you like me as much as you did when I was ten." he
replied. "Besides, even if you _didn't_ go easy on me I'd still beat
you."
His uncle smiled, and stood from his seat behind his desk. "To
the arena, Dominic. I'm going to teach you a lesson you won't soon
forget."
They headed for the door to the office, but Dominic turned around
and examined his surroundings for a moment, seeming curious. "Uncle, is
there anyone else in here?"
His uncle shook his head. "Why, did you hear something?"
"No." he replied, looking around a few more times. "Just sensed
something strange."
"Hmph! I don't rely on such gut feelings!" he said, sounding all
high and mighty. "And you shouldn't either."
"Yeah." Dominic said, seeming unsure. "It's nothing to worry
about."
They both left the room, and didn't notice the figure running out
of the shadows to follow.

***

He had almost looked for her this time. She had been trying to
hide herself from him with her mental powers, but it seemed he had a
little more experience with his, and could still sense her.
She continued to the door of the dimly lit office, and managed to
open it, go through then close it behind her without anyone noticing.
She continued down to the end of the hall where Dominic and his uncle
were waiting for the elevator, and she hid beneath a small oak table
that was standing against the wall.
She didn't like Dominic's uncle. Unlike his nephew, when she
looked into his mind she felt cold. There was a darkness in that him
that she took an immediate dislike to.
Dominic looked around, back down the hall, and seemed curious.
"Are you sure there's no one here? No pokemon or anyone?"
"No." his uncle replied, as the elevator bell rang, and the doors
slid open. "Persian is the only one that comes up here, and he's down
stairs. And that reminds me, he does enjoy watching my battles, I'd
better get him on our way to the arena."
"Yes better to have more witnesses to my victory." Dominic said
smugly, turning his attention from the hall.
His admiring observer giggled at what Dominic said. She wondered
why he would socialise with someone like his uncle.
They both stepped on the elevator, and his uncle pulled out a key
from his pocket and inserted it into the panel of buttons, and turned
it. The elevator doors started to close, and the observer ran up to
them.
She reached out mentally, and somehow managed to keep the outer
doors open with her mind, as Dominic's elevator started descending down
the shaft. She ran up to the open doors and jumped on top of the
elevator, being very careful not to make any noise.
She sat on top of the elevator and lay back sighing, as she opened
up her mind to Dominic again, and let the warmth flow through her body.
She was so tempted to reveal herself to him, but didn't want to risk it
yet. Not while he was with people like his uncle.
She would just have to wait a little longer.

***

Dominic looked down at the Persian entering the elevator, and
sitting down next to his master where he received a scratch behind the
ear.
"Does he have a name, uncle?" he asked.
"Just Persian." his uncle replied.
Dominic reached down and stroked Persian, and he took an immediate
liking to him, like most pokemon tend to do, stroking up against his
legs and purring contentedly.
His master looked on seeming quite surprised. "He likes you." he
mused. "He doesn't usually let anyone but me touch him."
"I've got a way with pokemon." he replied, reaching out to the
Persian mentally and sensing he was content with his current master.
"A useful trait." his uncle said, seeming a little envious. "But
I'd like to see it help you win against me."
The elevator stopped on one of the building's sub levels, and they
stepped out of the open doors onto a floor that was covered entirely
with earth. It was too dark to see, before his uncle pulled out a
remote and pressed a button, that caused six massive lights to activate.
The room was a huge rectangular one, larger than a football field, and
along each wall there were three massive lights that shined down on the
earth covered floor that had the standard markings of a pokemon arena.
Dominic jogged briskly to the far side of the arena, the long tail
of his coat trailing behind him, as his uncle took his place at the
closer trainer's circle.
"We will each use three pokemon with no time limit." his uncle
shouted from his side of the arena. "Choose your first pokemon!"
"I choose Mynx!" Dominic said, throwing his pokeball to the
ground, where the sleek female Persian emerged.
"Very well, I choose..."
"Purr-sian!" Giovanni's Persian said, interrupting him, and
running up to Mynx, and starting to affectionately stroke up against
her, and purring happily.
Mynx looked to Persian, seeming confused, then to her master.
"Per..." she looked to Persian, "... sian?" she looked to Dominic.
"Per..." to Persian, "... sian?" and back to Dominic again. She
continued doing this, seeming to be wondering what to do.
"Er... is this Mynx's opponent." Dominic asked.
"No." his uncle sighed. "I do believe Persian is smitten, and I
can't battle Mynx."
He looked back down at Mynx, who didn't seem so confused any more,
but seemed to have taken a mutual liking to Persian, though she wasn't
being as forward about expressing it.
"Mynx." Dominic called, pointing to the corner of the arena, that
was out of the way. "Go over there and... uh... play."
"Purrr sian!" she acknowledged happily, frolicking over into the
out of the way corner with her new friend, where they playfully started
pouncing at each other, and rolling over on the soil.
"You're lucky Dominic." he said, throwing his chosen pokeball to
the arena floor. "My Golem would have destroyed her!"
"GOLEEEM!!!" the golem growled, as it appeared from within his
ball.
"Oh Mynx has a few unique abilities uncle, that would probably
surprise you." he said, reaching into the folds of his coat to retrieve
another pokeball. "But this one should do the job too. Poseiden go!"
He threw his pokeball into the arena, and his chosen pokemon
appeared facing off with the golem.
"Wartortle!" Poseiden said.
"Golem, Tackle attack!" Giovanni commanded.
"Poseiden, withdraw!" he countered.
The golem charged, but before he could come into contact with the
wartortle named Poseiden, he withdrew into his extremely hard shell, and
the attack did very little damage.
"Poseiden, Bubble, NOW!!" he ordered.
Poseiden emerged from his shell, and blew a number of bubbles from
his mouth, that impacted with the golem, and exploded on impact.
Seeing as rock types are weak against water, it stumbled back
immediately, seeming quite dazed.
"Now, Poseiden, show him your tackle attack!"
"Wartortle!" Poseiden acknowledged, as he charged at the golem,
and after withdrawing it's head back into his shell, he impacted with
his opponent with incredible force, causing golem's tough rock armour to
crack, and sending him flying backwards onto his back. He tried to
struggle to his feet again, but fell back, unconscious.
"Come on uncle!" Dominic taunted, hoping to get a reaction from
him. "I was hoping for a challenge!"
"And you shall have one." he replied, reaching into his fine
Armani blazer to retrieve another pokeball. He had a very smug smile as
he opened it up, and his second pokemon appeared on the arena. "Let's
see if your wartortle can handle Machamp!"
"Machamp!" it bellowed.
"Poseiden, hydro pump!" Dominic ordered.
A burst of water exploded from the wartortle's lips towards the
massive muscled opponent.
"Machamp, force block!" his uncle ordered.
The Machamp crossed it's four powerful arms together in front of
itself, and when the hydro pump hit him he was pushed back a few meters,
but remained standing, as the water continued to spray into his powerful
defensive move.
"Force block?" Dominic said to himself, feeling curious. "I'll
have to remember that one. Poseiden, tackle!"
Poseiden stopped his hydro pump, and ran at the Machamp.
"Machamp, Quadruple Axe Handle!"
Just as Poseiden reached the massive pokemon, Machamp bought all
four of his hands together, and interlocked his fingers into a single
fist, then bought it down on the charging wartortle with the full
strength of all of his arms.
The force of the attack was amazing, and even though Poseiden's
head was inside his shell, it did little to lessen the impact. He was
punched down with enough force to leave a huge crater in the hard earth,
but the brave wartortle tried to get up.
"War..." he said, straining to lift his head, "... tortle!" he
said with a sigh, as he fell unconscious to the ground.
Dominic was a little worried about his pokemon. He had a close
kinship with all of them, but he managed to repress his worry and recall
the defeated pokemon into his pokeball.
"Not bad, uncle." he said returning Poseiden to his coat, and
retrieving another ball, then throwing it to the arena floor. "Go
Pyro!"
A charmeleon materialised and looked on it's opponent with a smug,
and somehow evil smirk.
"Machamp, Karate Chop!"
"MAAAACHAMP!" it roared, as it ran at the charmeleon with its two
right hands held high.
"Pyro dodge it, and use your tail whip!"
"CHAR!" Pyro hissed, as he quickly sidestepped, avoiding the chop
from the Machamp that hit the hard earth and caused a massive crack. He
then spun around in a circular motion, using his strong flame tipped
tail to whip his opponent in the kidneys, and send him flying away from
him.
"Now Pyro, Fire Blast!"
The charmeleon breathed in then released a large ball of fire that
changed into some kind of symbol, and impacted with Machamp and exploded
on impact. The Machamp was completely blackened all over, and he fell
forward to the ground, and closed his eyes.
"That's two down, uncle." Dominic said smugly. "Better have been
saving your best for last!"
His uncle chuckled after retrieving his Machamp into his pokeball,
then retrieving his third and final one from his blazer, and opened it
to distribute his final pokemon that appeared in mid air.
"A Fearow huh, uncle?" he asked, looking up at the massive, big
beaked bird. "Nice choice. Pyro, Fire Blast this one too!"
"Fearow!" Giovanni called, before whispering in a more sinister
tone as a malicious smile appeared on his face. "Mirror Move."
Pyro sent another symbol shaped fire ball towards the flying
pokemon, but Fearow started to glow with bright red light, and when the
Fire Blast impacted with him, it was just absorbed. Then suddenly he
redirected it, sending Pyro's attack back on him with a single flapping
on his wings.
Pyro turned and attempted to run, but was hit with his own Fire
Blast, and the heat was too much even for a fire type to withstand. He
fell to the ground, and fell unconscious.
Dominic recalled his charmeleon, and thought for a moment. He
wasn't expecting a flying pokemon, and the fact that it was a Fearow had
really surprised him. They were notoriously difficult to train, he
really had to give his uncle credit.
That mirror move attack was impressive, it was likely that any
special moves could be reflected and used against him, so he'd just have
to use a pokemon that didn't use things such as fire or electricity.
He reached into his coat, and pulled out his last pokemon. "Okay
Ginzu, you're on!"
A female pokemon appeared in mid air, and started flapping it's
wings much like a humming birds. "Scytheeeeeerr!!!" she screeched.
His uncle smiled. "I wasn't expecting that, Dominic, an electric
type would have been much more effective against Fearow."
"And give you the opportunity to use that mirror move again?" he
asked. "I don't think so!"
"Fearow, Gust Attack."
"Quick Ginzu, Quick Attack!"
Before Fearow could attack, Ginzu continuously started swiping in
it's direction, sending blades of white light flying towards the over
aggressive bird, and causing it to convulse every time it was hit.
With the Fearow dazed Dominic saw his chance. "Okay Ginzu, lets
have a Double Team and cut him down to size!"
Ginzu split into three separate Scythers, and they each moved
around to opposite sides of the recovering Fearow.
"Okay finish him off!" Dominic ordered.
"Fearow, gust attack!" his uncle ordered, seeming to get a little
agitated.
Fearow squawked and looked in all directions, trying to figure out
which one to attack.
"Attack that one!" he said, pointing to the one closest to him.
Fearow opened it's wings and prepared to initiate it's Gust
Attack, but the Syther behind him, flew into the back of his head.
"Okay, get that one!" he screamed.
Fearow prepared himself again, and another Scyther few Blade first
into his stomach. This continued frequently, Dominic's uncle pointing
to the wrong Scyther, and just before Fearow could attack, he was hit
from an un-defended angle.
The strikes became more and more frequent as the three Scythers
moved faster and faster, confusing the Fearow more and more. She struck
his head, then almost immediately afterward his stomach, then his left
wing, right wing, left leg, right leg, the head again, the beak, head,
head, head, head...
After a few moments the Fearow squawked loudly, then his eyes
fluttered shut and he crashed to the hard earth below.
"Get up Fearow!" Dominic's uncle growled. "GET UP!!!"
"Face it, I won!" Dominic said, victoriously.
Giovanni sighed. "It's times like this that make me miss Mewtwo."
he growled, as his nephew ran from his side of the arena after recalling
his Scyther. "But at least I lost to family, I suppose."
Dominic could tell that he still wasn't pleased, as he reached
into his blazer again, and he pulled out a leaf shaped badge made of
shiny green metal, and handed it to him.
"You earned this, boy." he said, as Dominic took it from his hand.
"I'm just glad you work for me."
Dominic's smile widened, as he pulled a flat rectangular black
case from his coat, and clicked it open revealing a collection of other
badges resting upon a red cushioned surface, and adding his newly
acquired Earth Badge to them.
"That's six badges." he whispered. "Only two to go."
It was pretty poor progress, seeing as he had been a trainer for
six years, but his uncle kept him so busy he had very little time for
travelling to the various Pokemon Gyms. But he was nearly there now,
and soon he would be in the Pokemon League.
They looked over to Mynx and Persian, who were still play fighting
with each other and purring contentedly. After being called by their
masters, they both bounded towards them, side by side, and followed them
into the elevator, where Giovanni used his remote to turn the arena
lights off, then he pressed the button for the lobby.
Dominic looked around for a moment, sensing the presence he had
been sensing since he got off the ferry.
"Uncle, do you ever get the feeling you're being watched?" he
asked, casually.
"No one watches me, without me knowing about it, boy." he replied.
Dominic shook his head and smiled. "Yeah, I'm probably a bit
paranoid after letting those two idiots get hold of all my pokemon."
Above them, someone was giggling cheekily.

***

It seemed that new abilities popped up all the time. She could
see straight through the metal roof of the elevator, as if it were
glass, and was looking down on Dominic, his uncle, and the two Persian's
that were extremely affectionate towards each other.
She had watched him battle and was quite impressed, even though
she disliked fighting. And when she reached out mentally to the
battling pokemon, she was appalled at what she received from Giovanni's
ones. They fought because they feared their master, but Dominic's
pokemon fought because they wanted too. Dominic was good to them, and
they were happy to battle for him.
She was now more tempted than ever to reveal herself to him, but
didn't want to show herself to his uncle, who she had really started to
loathe.
So she wouldn't reveal herself to him yet, she couldn't be too
hasty. His pokemon might like him, but that didn't mean he'd want her.
She just couldn't take the chance of being hurt by him, because she knew
she would take her own life if she was.
She had to have patience, and maybe at long last she will find the
happiness and companionship she had been searching for, for so long.
Happiness or loneliness were the choices she had given herself.
She prayed that it wouldn't be the latter.

Jessie, James and Meowth had all been bandaged up, had changed
into clean uniforms, and were now at their favourite hairdressers
getting groomed. Each of them were sitting in a hairdressers chair, and
each had a person behind them with scissors and combs.
Jessie and James had two male hairdressers, while Meowth sat back
contentedly as the female pokemon groomer behind him payed a lot of
attention to his singed fur.
"So what do you think of the Boss' nephew?" Jessie asked casually,
as the gentleman behind her cut off a few strands of burnt hair with
surgical precision.
"I think he's got a good point." James replied. "That our problem
isn't catching pokemon, but keeping them. I never thought about it that
way before."
"And if he's going to be in charge of us, at least we know he has
the fashion sense to shop at The House of Clefairy." she added, seeming
quite approving of him.
"Well I don't like 'im." Meowth retorted, with his paws behind his
head in a relaxed gesture.
"Well that's a shame." came the voice of someone un-noticed behind
them, as he walked into the hairdressers. "Because I've always been
quite fond of meowths."
The trio turned to see Dominic entering, and their blood ran cold.
"Dominic, please understand it was only Meowth that said he didn't
like you!" Jessie fretted, pointing accusingly to the terrified pokemon.
"The rest of us think you're wonderful!"
"Yes, Meowth's the only one!" James squealed, in agreement.
He just walked up closer nodding his head thoughtfully. "So, how
are the scratches?" he asked, before thinking for a moment, then
continuing. "And the burns... And the bruises... And the... uh... water
damage."
"Oh fiiiiine!" they all said in unison.
He nodded again, then walked up behind Meowth, and took the
groomers scissors and comb, and gestured for her to step aside. "So you
don't like me?" he asked, carefully cutting off some of Meowth's singed
fur, with a fair amount of skill. It was obvious he had done a bit of
grooming in his time.
Meowth cringed as the scissors cut through his fur, scared that
Dominic was going to do something nasty. "Uh... Did I say I _didn't_
like you?" he said, in a terrified tone. "I meant I _do_ like you! A
talking meowth always gets a few words confused." he explained, faking a
chuckle and still seeming terrified.
"Oh really?" Dominic asked, while removing the last of Meowth's
singed fur, and placing the scissors and comb on the nearby bench.
Meowth looked in the mirror, and was surprised to see that his fur
looked really good. "Wow." he whispered, at Dominic's nice job.
He picked Meowth up from his chair, and moved him over to a tiny
stool that sat upon a stainless steel bench, next to a sink. He then
retrieved a nearby shower head and sprayed warm water down his back
soaking his fur.
Earlier, Meowth had said he had hated water when getting attacked
by an enraged wartortle, but he didn't mind if it was warm.
Dominic rubbed some fruit scented pokemon shampoo between his
palms, and gently rubbed it into Meowth's fur. "You know my very first
pokemon was a meowth." he explained. "You remember Mynx, don't you?"
"Meeeoooowth!" he sighed involuntarily, as the shampoo was
massaged into his head and back.
Dominic finished lathering up Meowth's fur, and then retrieved the
shower head again and rinsed him off. "So I have a quite a way with
them." he continued, as he pulled a towel from a nearby rack and started
to wipe the water away.
"Meeeoooowth!" he sighed again, as Dominic took to his fur with a
hair drier and pokemon brush, the warm air drying of any remaining
dampness and feeling pleasant against his skin, as the brush tidied his
fur.
Finally he took a cloth and rubbed a little wax on it, and started
to polish the golden charm on his forehead. "There, all done." he
whispered after he was finished, picking Meowth up again, and placing
him before the mirror.
Meowth gasped at his appearance. He had never looked so good.
His charm glimmered and his fur had a healthy sheen that made it look a
shade lighter than it usually was. Jessie and James were also
astonished.
"Okay, I'll see you three at first light tomorrow." he said
turning towards the exit.
"Okay." Jessie and James replied, but Meowth remained silent
looking at his reflection, as the owner of the hairdressers tried to
offer Dominic a job as he departed.
"That guy's really smooth!" Jessie commented, admiringly.
"So you don't like him, hmmmm Meowth?" James asked, with an over
exaggerated smile appearing on his face.
Meowth smiled at his reflection. "I hereby stand corrected!"

***

Wow, that was really nice. He had heard that nasty meowth say he
didn't like him, but instead of doing something cruel, he decided to do
something really nice and change the talking pokemon's view of him.
His observer ran after him down the street, being careful to keep
at a reasonable distance. Though she had really started to like him,
and wanted to talk to him, she was still terrified that he wouldn't like
her. That he would just ignore her, and brush her aside. Or even worse
attack her like the others that she had thought wanted to be her
friends.
So she remained patient, following Dominic down the road, until he
reached the Pokemon Centre, where he entered. She followed him inside,
relieved that there weren't many people there. And those that were
there didn't notice her, because she kept herself well hidden, staying
behind potted plants, and putting the suggestions into the minds of
everyone that she wasn't worth looking at.
One thing she had always been good at was staying out of sight.
Dominic was the only one she had trouble hiding from, but he seemed to
have tuned her out for the time being.
Dominic walked up to the desk, and was met there by a red headed
woman in a nurses uniform, who smiled cheerfully when she saw him.
"Oh hello Dominic!" she said, in a friendly, welcoming tone. "I
haven't seen you in a while."
"Oh I've been busy, Joy." he replied, sounding equally as
cheerful. "And a few of my pokemon could use a little of that medical
magic that you work, after the battle I just had with my uncle."
Her expression changed to a worried frown. "That Giovanni is a
fiend! I still can't understand why you work for him."
"Hey, he's family!" he replied, defensively. "And the work he's
given me has always managed to put food on the table."
"Have you got enough badges for the Pokemon League yet?" she
asked, seeming a little upset with him.
"Nearly there." he replied, optimistically. "Only two to go, now
that I have my uncle's Earth Badge."
"You'd have been a master years ago if not for Giovanni holding
you back. You already are, in my opinion."
"Thanks for your concern, Joy, but good things take time." he
replied pulling two pokeballs from his coat, enlarging them, and opening
them to distribute two dazed looking pokemon onto the desk before the
nurse.
"Oh dear, Poseiden, Pyro!" she said worriedly, examining the
injuries of the two pokemon.
"Poseiden received a Quadruple Axe Handle from a Machamp." he
explained to the nurse. "And Pyro got hit with his own Fire Blast,
thanks to a Fearow's Mirror Move Attack."
The two pokemon shook their heads, then looked up at the nurse and
instantly brightened.
"Wartortle!" Poseiden greeted, with a big smile on his face.
"Char!" the charmeleon said, equally as happy as the turtle
pokemon next to him.
She picked one up in each arm, like the two of them were infants,
and spoke softly to them. "Poor little guys. Let's go in the back and
Chansey and I will have you good as new in no time!" she whispered,
taking them through the archway behind the front desk, that led to the
medical bay.
"Tortle!" Poseiden agreed enthusiastically.
"Meleon!" Pyro said, gladly.
The observer watched as Dominic waited for Joy to come out from
the back, and return to the front desk.
"Your uncle uses some nasty attacks." Joy commented, when she came
back. "They'll have to stay over night."
"Oh." he said.
The observer could sense he was worried about his two friends.
"Don't worry." Joy reassured. "Chansey and I will take good care
of them."
Dominic brightened, then smiled charmingly. "Thanks Joy." he
said, before making a request. "Would you like to join me for dinner,
when you get off?"
For some reason, Dominic's observer developed a sudden dislike for
Nurse Joy, even though she seemed like a very nice person.
"You know I don't date Team Rocket members, Dominic." Joy replied.
He sighed. "Well if I ever _was_ going to quit, it'd be for you,
Joy." he said, laying on a lot of charm.
She blushed. "Well then, call me if you ever do."
The observer frowned, and almost growled at the object of
Dominic's affection. It seemed she was already becoming over protective
of him, even though he hadn't even seen her yet.
"Okay, I'll see you, Joy." he said walking away, and waving.
"Make sure that Poseiden and Pyro are kept happy."
"I will!" she replied cheerfully, waving in return. "See you
tomorrow!"
His observer moved away from the door, as he approached, and when
he walked through, she ran back and continued to follow him. She
wondered if she should go up to him now, but again was too afraid of
being hurt.
Nurse Joy had the right idea, as long as he worked for a man like
his uncle Giovanni, she couldn't get attached. There was too much risk
of him having some of his uncle in him.
So again she decided to be patient. She had waited so long for a
friend already. Waiting for Dominic was a small price to pay.

***

Ash Ketchum sat at a circular table in front of a cafe, sipping on
an orange soda, when he looked over to his two friends. "So where do
you think this Doctor Valdamir, Professor Oak told us about is?"
"She's apparently spending some time at the Viridian City Pokemon
Centre." Misty replied, as an annoyed expression appeared on her face.
"Do we have to tell you everything?"
Ash scowled, but for some reason didn't feel like starting a fight
today, so just continued on about the doctor. "So what can she tell us
about pokemon, that Professor Oak can't?" he asked.
"Professor Oak studies the facts of Pokemon." Brock started to
explain. "Doctor Valdamir studies the Quantum Theory of Pokemon
Physiology."
"Huh?" Ash asked, looking so bewildered, if he were a cartoon
character he would have question marks appearing around his head.
"He means that she researches things that haven't been discovered
yet about the bodies of different pokemon types, dummy." Misty said,
folding her arms around her Togepi, and looking all high and mighty.
"Toge toge priiiiiii!" Togepi squealed, happily.
"Hey, I knew that!" Ash lied, turning away from her. "I was just
testing you. Right Pikachu?"
"Pika?" he asked, looking up from the bottle of ketchup he was
slurping, and unsure of what to say. He had an expression that screamed
that he didn't want to be taking sides. "Pikachuuu!" he whined.
"Oh don't you try and lie to me, Ash Ketchum!" she yelled, much
like his mother would when she was angry.
"Toge priiiii!"
"I am not lying!" he protested, turning to her and getting into a
staring contest, seeing who would look away from the other's angry scowl
first. They growled at each other like growlithes, but Brock managed to
break them up.
"Okay!" he said, getting between them, and pushing them away from
each other. "Why don't we all just finish our drinks, and go down to
the Pokemon Centre to see Doctor Valdamir!"
They both scowled at each other again, but then turned away from
each other, with childish pouts on their faces, as they folded their
arms.
Ash turned to Brock after a moment and asked him another question.
"So what can Dr Valdamir teach us, that has to do with the bodies of our
pokemon?"
"Her main area of research is to examine the bodies and
evolutionary patterns of pokemon, to find new abilities." Brock
explained.
"You mean like, new attacks?" Ash asked.
"Exactly." Brock answered.
Ash got his trademark excited look on his face, clenching his
fists, and throwing one of them into the air. "All right, new attacks!!
Let's go right now!!"
"And maybe we'll see Nurse Joy there!" Brock said, sounding very
dopey all of a sudden.
Misty just sighed at the idiotic behaviour of her two companions.
"Let's go, Pikachu!" Ash said, pulling his back pack over his
shoulders and running down the road.
"Pika-chu!" Pikachu said, sounding just as excited as his trainer.
Brock took off after Ash with just as much eagerness, but Misty
only ran to keep up.
"Hey wait up you guys!" she yelled.
"Toge!" her baby pokemon said, sounding very happy as usual.
They ran for quite a while before they reached the Viridian City
Pokemon Centre, but fortunately they were all quite fit and weren't too
tired once they got there. They all stepped in, and walked up to the
front desk, where Nurse Joy was standing with her usual cheerful smile.
"Hello, how can I help you three today?" she asked, before opening
her eyes and recognising the boy in the Pokemon League cap. "Oh hello
Ash!"
"Hi, we're here to see Doctor Valdamir." he said, excitedly.
"Oh I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow when she
makes her public presentation." she explained. "She came in, and after
seeing a wartortle that was left here earlier, she said she wanted to
test a theory and didn't want to be distur..."
"WARTORTLE, WARTORTLE, WARTORTLE!!!" a loud shriek came from the
back, interrupting the nurse.
"Now don't be such a baby Poseiden!" a woman's voice snapped.
"It's just a little needle!"
"TORTLE, WARTORTLE!!!" the wartortle called Poseiden yelled.
"No Poseiden!" the woman begged. "Don't use your Water Gu...
AAAIIIEEEEEEE!!!"
"Chansey! Chansey!" a chansey said, worriedly.
"Wartortle, tortle!"
A woman came running up from the medical bay in the back, dripping
wet. She was an attractive woman in her mid twenties wearing a black
mini skirt, white blouse and doctors coat. They couldn't tell if her
Raven black hair was straight or wavy, because it was totally drenched.
"Now that was very naughty, Poseiden!" she yelled, before walking
up to Joy. "Remind me never to use a needle on a Pokemon I've just
met."
As usual, at the sight of a pretty face, Brock went all stupid.
"She's beautiful!" he said, in his dopey voice.
"Are you Dr Valdamir?" Ash asked.
"Yes I am..."
Before she could finish, Brock jumped over to her side of the
front desk, knelt before her, taking her hands into his, and starting to
speak extremely quickly. "Oh Doctor Valdamir I'm such an admirer of
your work please say I can be your assistant while you're here I'm a
pokemon breeder and know a lot about pokemon physiology and evolution
please please please pleeeeeaaaaasssee!!!!" He had to take a deep
breath after saying so much, so fast.
The doctor seemed startled, but then smiled and patted Brock on
the head. "Oh what a sweet boy! I bet you'll be very popular with the
ladies when you grow up big and strong!"
Brock groaned unhappily, and fell backwards, only his feet being
visible from behind the desk.
She looked down on Brock, and then to his two companions. Ash,
Misty and Pikachu all had stupid smiles on their faces, feeling quite
embarrassed by their friend's behaviour.
"Toge toge priiiiii!" Togepi sqealed again.
"So, can I help you?" the Doctor asked, as Joy went out the back
and they heard her telling off the wartortle, and the guilty babbling of
the over zealous pokemon.
"We're interested in what you can tell us about any of the new
pokemon attacks you've discovered." Ash said excitedly, as Brock stood
from the ground, looking a little embarrassed.
"Oh?" she asked. "Well I was busy, but Poseiden back there is
being difficult, so I guess I can show you a little of my work, before
my presentation tomorrow." She looked at Pikachu, who had jumped onto
the desk, and smiled at him. She reached down and stroked his cheek,
and his ears flicked up for a moment, but quickly relaxed and he closed
his eyes and rubbed up against her palm with a contented smile.
"Kaaaa!" he sighed.
"I've got quite a lot of information about electric types, so I
can probably tell you a new attack or two for your pikachu."
"All right!!" Ash yelled, jumping up into the air.
"Pika pikachu!" Pikachu agreed, jumping in the air just like Ash.
"But remember!" she warned, as she opened the door beside the
front desk, to let Ash and Misty around to the back. "The reason they
haven't been discovered is because they're extremely hard to learn! It
will take some vigorous training of both pokemon and trainer to learn
them."
"Well it doesn't seem Ash will be learning any." Misty said,
smugly. "Every time he says he's going to train hard, he always finds a
reason to goof off."
"I do not!" Ash whined. "Me and my pokemon do plenty of
training!"
"What about Charizard?" she inquired, eith an evil smirk.
Ash went silent, and scowled at Misty.
"You have a Charizard?" the Doctor asked, as they all went to the
lab in the back. "We have a charmeleon back here, but a Charizard would
let me do some more intense research. Can I see it?"
Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu all looked at each other with unsure
expressions.
"I don't think you want to meet _Ash's_ Charizard." Brock
commented.
"Yeah, he never listens to a word Ash says." Misty added, looking
over to Ash mockingly.
"He'll obey my orders one day!" Ash whined.
"Pika." his pokemon said, seeming unsure and drooping his ears.
"Well I don't suppose we need an out of control pokemon in the
lab." the Doctor said. "Poseiden is very well trained, and you see how
he reacted."
She looked over to Poseiden, who sat upon a stainless steel table
next to a charmeleon, and looked very guilty.
"Tortle?" he said, looking guiltily up to Dr Valdamir.
She walked over to him and patted him on the head. "Yes, I
forgive you."
"Tortle!" he said, starting to sound happier.
Pikachu jumped off Ash's shoulder and onto the table with the
other two pokemon!"
"Pik-A-chu!" he said, waving to them.
"Char?" the charmeleon asked, before looking to his turtle
companion.
Poseiden walked up to Pikachu, then looked him up and down, before
smiling and waving back. "Wartortle!"
"Meleon!" Charmeleon greeted.
They all started talking as the people looked on.
"Your pikachu makes friends easily." the doctor commented.
"He always has." he replied, looking at the charmeleon. "I wish
Charizard was like that, when he was a charmeleon."
"His name is Pyro." she said.
"He belongs to one of our more frequent visitors." Joy explained,
from where she was sitting in front of a computer.
"He must be a great trainer." Ash said, seeming a little envious.
"He is." Joy replied, almost dreamily. It looked like she was
about to continue, but she trailed off.
"So how about these new attacks?" Ash asked, excitedly.
Dr Valdamir walked up to a nearby laptop, then typed into it
bringing up a number of windows on the screen. "I'll show you the most
basic of the new ones, though it is still very difficult to master. If
you can teach your pikachu that one, I'll show you some others."
She plugged a projector into her laptop, and projected an animated
image onto the wall. It showed a basic cartoon of a pikachu charging up
for and attack, then several rings of electricity appear around it,
before it formed into an entire oval shaped cocoon of electrical light.
"I simply call this the Electro Barrier." she explained. "It
forms a cocoon-like barrier of electricity around your pokemon, capable
of absorbing energy attacks, and propelling physical ones."
"You mean it absorbs things like fire, and electric attacks?"
Brock asked.
"Yes, it's an interesting phenomena." she replied. "The field
transforms other forms of energy, such as heat, into electricity. And
it is extremely effective against various kinds of pokemon, though
shouldn't be used against a water type."
"A water attack would pass through the shield, and conduct the
electricity." Misty said, seeming quite proud of herself. "So Ash
couldn't use it on any of my pokemon!"
"Toge toge!" Togepi agreed, happily.
"What do you think of that, Pikachu?" Ash asked his pokemon, as he
ignored Misty. "Electro Barrier!"
Pikachu lifted his ears, seeming intrigued. He jumped over to a
closer table, and his two new friends followed him.
"Here, I'll demonstrate." the doctor said pulling a pokeball out
of her white coat and opening it to distribute a pokemon onto the
opposite side of the table to Pikachu, Poseiden and Pyro.
"Pikachu!" the new pokemon said.
"Hey, you've got a pikachu?" Ash asked.
"Yes. Pyro?" she said, turning to the fire type.
"Char?" Pyro Acknowledged.
"Would you help me with the demonstration?"
"Meleon!" he said, nodding.
"This is Buzz." she said, pointing to her pikachu. She looked
down to Buzz, and said, "Buzz, get ready for Electro Barrier."
Buzz nodded. "Pika!"
"Pyro, Flame Thrower!" she ordered.
The charmeleon breathed in, and Buzz started to charge up, and a
spiral of electricity started at his feet and spun up like a spring
around him, stopping above his head, and the energy increased until it
looked like the pikachu was inside an egg made entirely out of yellow
electricity.
Pyro breathed fire towards the pikachu, but it hit the barrier,
then flew around it in an impressive looking spiral, then was absorbed
into the electricity. The shield faded, after a few seconds, and Buzz
looked up to the doctor.
"Very good, Buzz!" she praised.
"Pika!" he replied proudly.
Ash's pikachu ran up to Buzz and started questioning him, seeming
quite excited.
"Pika? Pika, pikachu?" he asked.
Buzz thought for a moment then answered, counting the steps on his
tiny paws. "Pika... pikachu... chu... pika... chu!"
Pikachu listened carefully, then clarified. "Pika, pikachu, chu,
pika, chu?"
Buzz nodded.
Ash looked on proudly as his pikachu started to charge up, but the
doctor startled him.
"He should be careful because if he does it wrong he could..."
"PIKACHUUUUUU!!!!" Pikachu yelled, as a spiral of electricity
wrapped around him like and egg shaped spring, but suddenly collapsed in
on his body, and he jumped all over the table, convulsing from his own
electricity, then impacted with Pyro and Poseiden, shocking them, and
causing them to involuntarily use their own attacks.
First everyone around the table was shocked by a Thundershock,
then set on fire with a Flamethrower, and finally put out with
Poseiden's water gun.
They were all stood shocked, blackened, soaking wet and Doctor
Valdamir, after exhaling a lung full of smoke, finished what she was
saying.
"If he does it wrong, he could shock himself."
"Kaaaa!" Pikachu sighed, blackened by his own electricity.
"Tortle!" Poseiden said, sounding annoyed.
"Chaaar!" Pyro agreed.
"Don't do that again!" Misty begged Pikachu.
"Pika!" he agreed, with a nod.
"Toge priiii!" Toegepi sqealed, surprisingly dry, un-burnt, and as
happy as ever.
"It's a good thing we're in a pokemon center." Ash commented.
"I would have preferred a hospital." Brock cut in.
"So can you show me some more attacks?" Ash asked.
Doctor Valdamir looked to the resulting affects of the failed
attempt. The dazed pokemon, all the people around her that had been
burnt, electrocuted, and soaked, then finally looked back to Ash and
answered his question.
"No."

***

Last night had been wonderful! She had followed Dominic to the
Team Rocket headquarters, where he had a room, and while he wasn't
looking she had sneaked under his bed.
That night she slept more soundly that she ever had, their minds
accessing each other to the full when they were both sleeping, and it
had made her body feel warmer than it had ever been before.
But that wasn't the best part. They had shared a dream. Not her
in his dream, or him in her dream, but _their_ dream! She couldn't
remember much of it, because like most dreams it didn't make a lot of
sense after she had woken up, but she could remember it was wonderful.
She was warm, and she was with him just like she had wanted to be, for
that whole night, and Dominic didn't even realise it.
She knew the happiness of being with him, but she was still too
afraid to show herself to him. She had been no more than a dream to
him, while he was everything to her. Sure, he wouldn't mind dreaming of
her for one night, but she couldn't be sure that he would want to be her
friend for real.
Dominic's uncle Giovanni invaded their dream last night, so it was
his affiliation with his uncle that made her unsure. How could he get
on with someone so evil, without having a little bit of evil in himself?
Though she didn't like to think this way, she couldn't help seeing
the nightmarish visage of Dominic standing over her, pointing at her and
ruthlessly kicking her away. Saying he could never want her and having
all of his powerful pokemon attack her, hurting her like all the others.
And she knew she wouldn't run if this happened, but just let them
finish her. And then let the warm one, Dominic, that she now knew she
loved, do it.
She almost started crying at the mere thought, but composed
herself when she decided that it was foolish to weep over something that
hadn't happened. And would hopefully never happen.
She had followed Dominic from his room after he had showered and
dressed, and called the Pokemon Centre on the vid-phone to teleport Pyro
and Poseiden to him.
After retrieving his pokeballs and putting them into his coat with
the others, he left his room with his sports bag in his hand, and
climbed the stairs, because he was only two floors down from the top
floor that his uncle's office was on.
She really didn't want to go back into that office, but she did it
to be close to him. He went in where it was still extremely dark
inside, and his uncle and the three Team Rocket members he had been put
in charge of, were waiting for him.
"Hello sir!" the three of them said, saluting and looking like the
complete idiots they were.
"Rule number one." he said, pointing to them a moment after they
spoke. "_Never_ call me sir."
"Okay, Dominic!" Meowth said cheerfully.
The other two kept silent, as Dominic walked behind Giovanni's
desk and saw the two Persians sitting nearby and stroking up against
each other, still purring.
"I see Mynx was kept happy." he commented.
"Yes, she and Persian go well together." Giovanni replied.
"Purrrr!" Mynx said, contentedly.
"So uncle what do you want me and these three to do?" he asked.
Giovanni tapped the fingertips of one hand against the other, in a
thoughtful gesture. "You are to take these three idiots into a mission
of my choice, and make sure they don't screw up as they always do."
Jessie, James and Meowth all looked to the floor in shame.
"And the mission?" Dominic asked.
"There is a demonstration of new pokemon attacks at the Pokemon
Centre today, done by a Doctor Valdamir." he explained. "I want you
four to go there and steal her data, and any pokemon she may have. They
have been trained in the new attacks, and I want them!"
The one watching Dominic sensed his sudden worry. He was
distraught because a friend of his worked at the Pokemon Centre.
"But uncle..." he said, seeming worried, but trailing off.
"I know you like the nurse there, Dominic, but this is your job!"
he said, coldly. "This is an important mission, and you're one of my
best agents!"
Dominic sighed and looked to the ground seeming a little angry.
"Okay uncle." he mumbled.
"Now Dominic, you can wear a mask, and no one will know it was
you." he suggested.
"Nurse Joy knows all of my pokemon, uncle." he whispered. "And
speaking of pokemon, I'm going to have to take Mynx with me." he said,
pulling out her pokeball.
"Persiiiaaaan!!!" the two Persians complained.
"Mynx, return!" he said, as the cat pokemon was drawn back into
her pokeball as a beam of red light.
Giovanni's Persian slumped down on the floor and started sulking.
Dominic's observer was quite disappointed in him. How could he do
this to one of his friends? Why didn't he just say no? This was
precisely the reason she hadn't revealed herself to him yet. He was so
capable of evil, no matter how warm he made her. If he would hurt the
nurse for his uncle, there was nothing stopping him from hurting her.
"Now go." Giovanni said. "That demonstration is due to start in
half an hour."
Dominic turned towards the door, and by the look of his
expression, his posture and his clenched fists, it seemed he was angry
enough to beat the life out of someone.
"Come on!" he growled, to the other three, as he exited his
uncle's office, and headed down the hall to the elevator.
Like before, he got into the elevator, and as it went down the
observer managed to keep the doors open with her mind and jump on top of
it. She used her ability to look through the roof and watch what he and
the Team Rocket trio were doing.
He placed his bag onto the ground, pulled his coat off over his
shoulders and handed it to Jessie, then removed his Texas string tie and
started to unbutton his white silk shirt, and when he took it off it
revealed a black T-shirt beneath with a large red R printed on it. He
reached into the bag and pulled out a black mask made of silky material
with triangular eye holes, and pulled it over his head. After putting
his coat back on he was wearing nothing but black, in his long pants,
boots, T-shirt with the red R, ankle length coat and mask. He looked
very sinister dressed this way.
"Do we have a van ready?" he asked his three partners, as he
picked his bag up again.
"Yes, Dominic." Jessie replied. "It's in the parking lot."
Dominic sighed again, shaking his head. "Okay, let's get this
over with."
His observer frowned.

Ash clapped with the others in the audience, as the doctor came
out and stood behind the display he had helped to set up the previous
night. There was a table with her laptop computer set up on top, and a
small area marked out for the pokemon to do their attacks on. A
projector connected to the computer projected an image onto the wall.
Quite a few people had showed up, most of them trainers who were
interested in new attacks for their pokemon, but there were a variety of
scientists and other pokemon experts, and not to mention the odd curious
person that just came in off the street.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'll skip the formalities and get straight
to what you have come here for, which are the new pokemon attacks and
abilities." she announced, as a few pleased comments came from the
audience. She typed into the computer and the same image she had shown
last night was projected onto the wall, of a pikachu doing the Electro
Barrier.
"Now we will start with electrical attacks, which I have studied
the most." she explained. "The easiest of the new attacks to learn,
that can still prove difficult to the most experienced of pokemon, is
the Electro Barrier. I have found that most electric types are capable
of this att..."
She was cut off when the lights cut out, and a spotlight shone
down near the entrance to the pokemon centre.
"Prepare for trouble!" Jessie said, as she was revealed by the
light.
"And make it double." James added, as another spotlight revealed
him.
"To protect the..."
Jessie was cut off when a man dressed entirely in black, came up
behind them, and grabbed them by the scruffs of their necks.
"Rule number two." he said, sounding displeased. "Never say that
poem while while working with me. I watched video after video of you
two, and in every _single_ one there was that damn poem! It drives me
nuts! So just stick to the plan, okay?"
They sighed as he released them. "Okay." they said in unison, as
Meowth jumped down from above the door, seeming disappointed that he
didn't get to say, "Meowth, that's right."
"Arbok, go!" Jessie said throwing the pokeball, that freed the
massive purple cobra-like pokemon. "Use Glare on Nurse Joy, NOW!!"
"Aaaaaaarrbok!" he acknowledged, glaring at Nurse Joy, who was
standing behind the front desk, and put her into a trance, so she just
swayed side to side.
"Why'd they do that?" Ash asked. "And who's the new guy?"
"Who cares!" Brock said, reaching into his green vest for a
pokeball. "We've got to stop them."
"We thought you guys were stupid!" Ash said, as he reached for a
pokeball of his own. "But I didn't think you'd attack a building loaded
with pokemon trainers!"
"Something we're prepared for!" Jessie said holing up a massive
high tech rifle, that had something that looked like a satellite dish
attached to the end.
"Oooohoohoohoohoo!" James chuckled, pulling out an identical
rifle. "These nullifier rifles, will nullify your pokeballs! Your
pokemon won't be coming out of hours!"
They stood on either side of the mysterious masked man, and fired,
the beams rippling the air, and the ripple effect growing into massive
wave that passed over everyone in the room.
Everyone with pokeballs tried to open them, but they were jammed.
"Priiiiiii!!" Togepi wailed from Misty's arms, seeming afraid,
with tears pouring from his eyes.
"Don't cry, Togepi!" Misty fretted, gently rocking him in her
arms, then looking to Ash. "How are we going to stop them without our
pokemon?"
"I've still got Pikachu!" Ash yelled, as his pokemon jumped off
his shoulder and onto the ground in front of him.
"Chu!" he growled.
"Arbok, Coil Attack!" Jessie ordered.
"Aaaaaarrrrbok!" he hissed, as he slithered forward and started
wrapping himself around the little pikachu.
"Pika... CHUUUUUUUU!!!" he said as he sent a fair amount of
electricity through him.
"Arrrrrrr!" the Arbok cried, as he fell unconscious to the floor.
"Wheezing, Sludge Attack!" James said, throwing his pokeball.
"Wheezing!" he wheezed.
"CHUUUUUUUUUU!!!!"
Wheezing also fell unconscious from an electric shock, and landed
on top of Arbok.
The man in black shook his head, then pulled two pokeballs from
his coat. "Let's see how well you two have recovered since your last
battle." he whispered. "Poseiden, Pyro, GO!!! Get that pikachu!"
The two familiar pokemon appeared, and seemed ready to fight at
first, but then saw Pikachu and stopped.
"Pika?" he asked, looking at the two pokemon he had befriended the
previous night, and flicking his ears up.
"Poseiden, Water Gun!" the man in black ordered.
Poseiden folded his arms and shook his head. "Tortle!" he
retorted.
Poseiden's trainer was surprised, but quickly recovered. "Pyro,
Fire Blast!"
Pyro copied Poseiden's action, by folding his arms and refusing.
"Char!" he growled.
"What's wrong with you two?" he asked in bewilderment.
"Wartortle, tortle tortle wartortle!" Poseiden said.
"What?" he asked, seeming to understand. "He's your friend?"
"Char, char charmeleon!" Pyro said.
"You met him last night?!" he asked, seeming a little angry at
himself. "Geez I leave you guys alone one night, and you make friends
with my next opponent!" he said shaking his head, and holding out two
pokeballs in one hand. "Okay return!" He then retrieved another
pokeball, and threw it to the floor. "Go Mynx!"
"A Persian?" Ash asked, starting to laugh. "This is going to be
an easy battle! Pikachu, Thundershock!"
"Mynx, Electrical Absorb!" the stranger retaliated.
"Electrical what?" Ash asked, as Pikachu powered up.
"Pika... CHUUUUUU!!!!!"
Mynx crouched down into a defensive stance, and her eyes started
to glow yellow. The Thundershock exploded from Pikachu, but when it hit
Mynx, it was all absorbed into her body and she didn't even flinch.
"Purrrrrrsiaaaan!" she purred, as electrical energy jumped over
her fur and her eyes glowed even brighter.
"Now Mynx, give that pikachu a taste of his own medicine." he
said, getting into a stance that told people he was prepared for
victory. "Show him your Thunder Swipes!"
She growled as the electricity jumped over her fur, starting to
run down her legs, and into her front paws, where it caused her claws to
grow to an imposing size and spark with yellow electricity. She charged
at him and swiped to the right, sending electricity through the little
pokemon, then continued to swipe left and right electrocuting him each
time. Her final blow was the most devastating, reaching back her right
paw, her claws growing even longer, glowing with all the electricity
from her body, that flowed into that one paw, and she executed an
uppercut slash, swiping upwards at Pikachu and electrocuting and
scratching the full length of his body.
"Kaaaaaa!" he cried, flying upwards, as the last of the
electricity left the persian's claws as a lightning bolt, and shocked
Pikachu one more time while he was still in mid air, then he fell to the
ground with a thud, unconscious.
"Pikachu!" Ash cried, worriedly running up to his fallen pokemon.
"Arbok, Coil that little twerp!" Jessie ordered.
Arbok got up from the ground, shaking off the dizziness, before
wrapping himself around Ash so tightly, that the boy had trouble
breathing.
"Pikachuuu!" he wheezed, struggling hard to get to his pokemon.
"Toge toge!" Togepi sobbed, as Misty kept trying to calm him down.
The man in black looked away from Ash, seeming guilty of what he
was doing. "Jessie, James!" he called. "Go over and get the doctor's
computer and her pokeballs!"
The duo ran over and unplugged all the cables from the doctors
laptop and folded it up, then approached Doctor Valdamir.
"No!" the attractive doctor cried, grabbing the laptop Jessie was
holding and starting a tug of war with it. "That's years of research,
you can't just take it!"
"Stealers, keepers!" Jessie retorted, struggling with the doctor.
"And we're taking your pokemon too!"
"No, you can't!" she cried, as James started to help Jessie but
the doctor still managed to keep hold of her computer.
"Hey this lady's a real handful!" James commented.
The man in black shook his head again, and pulled out another
pokeball, and threw it towards his partners. "Go Rocky! Hold back the
doctor, and be careful not to hurt her!"
A hitmonchan emerged, wearing a boxing outfit and gloves, and
grabbed the doctors arms from behind, then pulled her away from the two
Team Rocket members, causing her to release the computer.
"Monchan!" he said.
James walked to the door with the computer, and Jessie walked up
to the restrained doctor, reached into her doctors coat, and pulled out
seven pokeballs she had stored there.
"Thank you!" Jessie giggled, putting the pokeballs into a black
bag, and turning towards the man in black, who was obviously leading
them. "You know the Boss really wants that pikachu, too." she said,
pointing to the still unconscious pokemon.
Ash looked up to the man in charge with a warning scowl. "Don't
you dare!"
The man in charge, growled in frustration. "Fine! You guys get
in the van! Mynx, grab the pikachu!"
"Perrrrsian!" she acknowledged, obediently running over and gently
taking Pikachu into her mouth by the scruff of his neck, as if he was
her kitten, and bounded out the door.
"Wheezing, smoke screen!" James ordered, as he ran out.
"Wheezing!" he acknowledged, getting up off the ground after being
shocked, filling the room with black smoke from his mouth, and flying
out the door.
"Arbok, return!" Jessie ordered, before laughing maniacally to
herself and leaving.
The leader recalled his hitmonchan, Rocky, and ran up to the
opened door, but stopped before he went out. "Sorry kid." he said to
Ash. "It's nothing personal. Just business."
"Oh it's personal all right!" Ash yelled in reply, as he ran after
him, but ran into the glass door when it was shut in his face suddenly
by the fleeing leader.
They all jumped into a black van with a red R on the side, that
was parked by the sidewalk, and took off down the road at top speed.
Ash ran out, and tried to chase it, but it turned a corner and was gone.
"PIIIIIKAAAAAACHUUUUUU!!!!!" Ash cried at the top of his lungs.
He fell to his knees and found himself crying, as his friends Misty and
Brock came up behind him. He looked back up in the direction Team
Rocket had gone in with a look of determination in his tear filled eyes.
"Don't worry Pikachu!" he whispered, sniffing. "I'll rescue you."

***

Dominic, Jessie, James and Meowth all walked into the elevator
within Team Rocket Headquarters. Dominic pulled off his mask, then
shook his head letting his semi long black hair wave about his ears. He
felt really lousy after stealing that kid's pikachu. He had sensed
Ash's anguish and hadn't even been trying to.
Jessie stood on one side of him with a black bag with the Doctor's
pokemon in them, while James stood on the other side with the stolen
laptop under his arm. Meowth stood on the ground holding a glass cage
with a light bulb on the top, and the still unconscious pikachu inside.
All three of them had completely delighted smiles on their faces.
"I can't believe it!" James said excitedly. "Not only did our
mission succeed, we finally got that pikachu too!"
"The Boss is going to love us for this, and it's all thanks to
Dominic!" Jessie added, turning to the new leader.
"Which means he'll probably get all the credit!" Meowth added,
still smiling dumbly and not realising what he was saying.
After a moment the trio all looked to the floor, their smiles
falling from their faces and disappointed frowns replacing them.
Dominic noticed this and shook his head. "Don't worry you guys,
I'll be sure to put in a good word about you to my uncle." he assured.
They all cheered up as Dominic pressed the button for Giovanni's
office, but instead of the door closing and the elevator starting to
ascend, the door remained open and a woman's voice came from a speaker
next to the button panel.
"Who's there?" the voice asked suspiciously.
"Dominic and his team, returning from a successful mission." he
replied.
"Sorry sir, but your uncle is not in his office." she explained.
"He's out at the moment and no one's permitted on the top floor unless
he's there."
"Okay, fine." Dominic sighed.
The static from the speaker cut out when the lady on the other end
cut the connection.
"So what now?" Jessie asked.
"Give me the computer, pokeballs and that pikachu." he replied,
taking the items and placing them all in his black bag. "You three
remain in the lobby and wait for my uncle, and call me in my room when
he arrives." he continued, as he picked his bag up, that weighed a
little bit more than it did before. "Then we'll meet in his office."
The three looked at each other, then stepped out of the elevator
and back into the Team Rocket Lobby.
Dominic pressed the button for the floor his room was on, a few
floors below his uncle's office, and the doors shut and he felt the
blood rush to his feet as he moved up.
When the elevator reached his floor he stepped into the hall,
walked to the door to his room, and opened it. He stepped in and pulled
Pikachu's cage from his bag and placed it on his kitchen table. He then
sat on his bed and looked at him, still unconscious in his glass prison.
He started to stir, and slowly woke up, then looked around seeming
quite worried. He then charged up for a Thundershock, but it didn't
effect his prison, only lit up the light bulb above him. Dominic walked
up to the little pokemon after he had stopped trying the Thundershock,
and reached out mentally to him.
The pikachu was sad. He didn't think he was ever going to see the
boy called Ash again, and this made him so scared and upset. Tears
started to appear in his eyes, and Dominic couldn't help but pity the
little creature.
"You really love that kid, Ash, don't you?" he asked.
Pikachu looked up at him with angry eyes, and tried to use another
Thundershock, but it failed again.
"You really love him?" he asked again.
Pikachu looked up to Dominic, with angry tear filled eyes and
nodded. "Chu." he whimpered.
"You know my uncle wants you because you're a strong pokemon." he
explained, before pausing a moment to think. "But you wouldn't fight
for him as hard a you do for Ash, would you?"
Pikachu folded his little arms, and lifted his chin defiantly.
"Pika, pikachu!" he retorted.
"You wouldn't fight for him at all?" he asked. His psychic
abilities had given him the unique ability to understand a pokemon's
speech. "You know he'd hurt you if you don't."
Pikachu lifted his chin and closed his eyes with an even more
defiant expression. "Chu!" he said, not caring.
He sat down next to the table and smiled. "So pretty much, you're
no good to my uncle, huh?"
"Pika!" he agreed, nodding with his eyes still closed and his arms
still folded.
"So I'd may as well just..." he paused and shrugged his shoulders.
"... let you go."
The little electric mouse looked up at him, surprised. "Pika?"
Dominic unscrewed the top off Pikachu's prison and lifted it off.
"There. Now go!" he whispered, looking away. "I can't get you out of
the building, you'll have to do that yourself."
"Pikachu?" he asked, curiously.
"Why?" he repeated, shaking his head. "Because two friends like
you and Ash shouldn't be separated."
His ears flicked up, and he seemed a little unsure. "Pika,
pikachu! Chu pika pikachu!"
"No, I can't give you the other stuff I stole!" Dominic protested.
"I'd get in too much troub..."
"Chuuuuu!" he warned, electricity sparking from the red dots on
his cheeks.
"Okay, okay!" he surrendered, throwing up his arms and running
over to his sports bag. He pulled out the laptop and the bag of
pokeballs, then slipped the computer in with the stolen pokemon.
Pikachu jumped from the table he was standing on, and bounded over
to Dominic on all fours. He took the black bag from him, containing the
pokeballs and computer, then walked to the door with it over his
shoulder.
He turned around before he walked out and looked up to the man who
had freed him. "Pikachu!" he said cheerfully, before running through
his open door.
Dominic smiled, feeling really good with himself, even though he
knew he was going to get into a whole world of trouble.
"You're welcome." he replied.

Dominic's observer was pleased with what he had done. He had gone
against the wishes of that terrible uncle of his, and done the right
thing. She ran out the door and looked down the hall where she saw the
pikachu trying to jump up and press the button to summon the elevator,
but it was too high.
She was happy that Dominic had done the right thing by helping the
pikachu, it was only proper that she did the same.
She ran up to him, and he turned and looked her up and down, not
sure what to think of her.
Pikachu asked who she was, and she just told him she wanted to
help him.
Pikachu smiled at her, and she was happy to have made a friend.
Not as happy as she would be with Dominic, but still happy.
She ran under the elevator button, her being too short to reach it
as well, and Pikachu jumped onto her head and managed to reach it.
The elevator bell rang and the doors opened, then they both ran in
and he climbed onto her head again so he could reach the button that
took the elevator to the lobby.
As the elevator moved down, she and pikachu looked to each other.
She asked if they were friends, and Pikachu nodded with a warm smile.
"Pika-chu!" he said, cheerfully.
She was happy, but when he offered to take her to join his boy
Ash, she refused. She told him how she only wanted to be with Dominic
now, and Pikachu nodded. He said that he knew Dominic had done bad
things, but knew he was a good person from what he had done for him.
The elevator stopped, and the doors opened to reveal the lobby.
The three members of Team Rocket were standing there and noticed the duo
step out.
"Hey it's that pikachu!" James said.
"And he has a friend!" Jessie added.
"And all the stuff we just swiped!" Meowth yelled, pointing to the
bag and becoming very agitated.
"Go Arbok!" Jessie yelled, throwing her pokeball.
"Go Wheezing!" James said, releasing his own pokemon.
Pikachu looked at his two opponents then to his new friend. He
ran up to her and hugged her, causing her to blush, then started to
charge up with electricity.
"Pika... CHUUUUUU!!!" he yelled, as a spiral of electricity
started to form around the two of them, then form into an egg shaped
electric barrier.
She was a becoming quite scared, and hugged Pikachu tighter.
"Arbok, Bite those two!" Jessie ordered.
"Aaaaaaarrrbok!" Arbok hissed, as he attempted to bite down on the
egg shaped shield, but was shocked and thrown back.
"Wheezing, Poison Gas Attack!" James said.
"Wheezing!" he wheezed, as poison gas erupted from his mouth, and
impacted with the shield, but all the gas exploded and badly burnt
wheezing in the process.
"Pika, pikachu!" Pikachu cried to his friend, explaining that he
couldn't keep the shield up much longer.
His friend was afraid, but decided to try something new with her
abilities. She concentrated, and started to feed her energy into
Pikachu's body. Pikachu was surprised at first, then smiled at the
friend he was still hugging.
"Pika... CHUUUUUUUUU!!!!" he yelled again, putting more energy
into the shield, causing it to grow. It grew slowly at first, then
started to speed up and the members of Team Rocket and their pokemon all
started to back off.
The shield exploded outwards suddenly, causing electricity to fill
the entire room, and all the members of Team Rocket to scream as they
were all electrocuted. The shield threw them away, flying upwards at
top speed, shattering through the massive circular stained glass window
high up above the main doors, then off over the buildings and out of
sight.
"LOOKS LIKE TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAAAAAIIIIIN!!!"
The electricity faded and when they looked around, the entire
lobby was on burnt, and a lot of it was on fire. The two friends got
out of the embrace and blushed.
"Pika pikachu!" he said suddenly, jumping up in the air and saying
how happy he was to have learnt the new attack.
She asked him if he was going to go to his boy, Ash, and he
nodded.
She was sad to have her new friend leave, but when he offered for
her to go with him again, she refused.
He stepped forward and hugged her again, then picked up the black
bag he had with him. He ran to the door, that had been completely
destroyed, and turned around to look at her again.
"Pikaaachuuuuu!" he said, waving goodbye.
She waved back to her very first true friend, with a tear in her
eye. She wished he would stay with her, but as he ran out the decimated
door, she knew it wasn't going to happen.
She ran back into the elevator and realised she was too short to
reach the button leading back to Dominic's floor. She tried jumping up
a few times, then got a better idea when she realised she couldn't
reach.
She used her mental powers, and the button was pushed down then
the elevator doors closed and she felt herself moving upwards. She was
nearly ready to reveal herself to Dominic now.
Not quite. But nearly.

"Ash, you can't just run into the Team Rocket headquarters!" Misty
yelled, running after the boy who was charging down the road he had
discovered Team Rocket was down. "Your pokeballs still aren't working!
What are you going to do, go in and ask nicely for them to give Pikachu
back?"
"I'm going in there, Misty!" he yelled back, without stopping.
"I'm going to get Pikachu back if it's the last thing I do!"
"And it's going to be, if you just charge in there!" Misty said,
catching up to him and grabbing him by his back pack. "Now why don't
you calm down, so we can all come up with a plan?"
Brock caught up and stopped next to them, panting from the long
run. He was holding Togepi, who seemed quiet now after the fright of
the robbery.
"Let me go, Misty!" Ash ordered, trying to pull away from her.
"The Team Rocket building is right down the road, I have to..."
They all stopped, and jumped with fright when they heard the
massive explosion. They turned to where explosion had come from, and
saw a massive amount of electricity emanating from one of the nearby
buildings, as the explosion sent two people and a meowth flying out, and
off into the horizon, screaming, "LOOKS LIKE TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF
AGAAAAAIIIIIN!!!"
"What happened?" Brock asked, as they all watched electricity
begin to fade.
"Could that have been Pikachu?" Misty asked.
"I'm going to find out!" Ash announced, as he ran down the road
again, knowing that it looked a bit too powerful to be something Pikachu
could do, but just wanting to make sure.
They all ran down the road, then saw the building the explosion
had come from. The first floor was completely ruined and they all
looked at it in bewilderment, until a small pokemon with yellow fur, red
cheeks and a black bag over his shoulder emerged from inside.
"Pikachu!!" Ash cried, in joy.
Pikachu looked up, and when he saw his trainer he ran up to him
with a huge smile, dropped the bag he was holding, and jumped into his
arms. "Pika!!"
Ash hugged him with tears in his eyes, and Brock walked over and
picked up the bag, examining it's contents. "What's this?" he asked,
before getting a good look. "Hey it's Dr Valdamir's computer, and all
her pokemon!"
"Good work Pikachu!" Ash praised. "How'd you get away from Team
Rocket?"
He jumped from his arms and started explaining sounding very
excited. "Pika pika chu! Chu pika chu pika pika chu! Pikachu pika-
chu, pika pika chu!" he continued like this for quite a while before Ash
stopped him.
"Pikachu, I can't understand you!" he reminded.
He drooped his ears, seeming a little embarrassed. "Chuuu." he
groaned, but then he looked up and started to smile, then charged up and
looked like he was about to do a Thundershock. "Pika... CHUUUUUUUU!!!"
A spiral of energy formed around him, then it turned into a egg
shape that surrounded him.
"Wow, he learned Electro Barrier." Brock said.
"I so proud of you Pikachu!" Ash said, kneeling next to him and
wrapping his arms around him, then convulsing as he was electrocuted
from hugging an Electro Barrier.
The barrier faded, and Ash fell face first onto the pavement,
every inch of him blackened, and smoke rising from his body. He groaned
in agony, then spoke to his pokemon deliriously. "Good work Pikachu."
he moaned.
"Pika." he replied, nervously drooping his long ears, then looking
to Brock and Misty. "Pikachuuuu."

Dominic stood before his uncle's desk, bravely staring straight
into his eyes. When Giovanni had returned and found the lobby to his
building ruined, he was furious! And he got even angrier after he had
discovered that a pikachu had taken off with the new pokemon attack
data, and the pokemon that were trained in some of those attacks.
"So what happened, dear nephew?" he asked, angrily.
"I left the pikachu alone only for a minute, and he got out of his
containment cell, and took everything we had stolen." he replied.
"And my lobby?" he asked angrily. "I doubt a single pikachu could
do that much damage, and those three fools I assigned to you are no
where to be found."
"That's a mystery to me too, uncle." he replied, narrowing his
eyes at him, still quite angry that he had been ordered to attack his
friend, Nurse Joy.
"The problem that's been facing Jessie, James and Meowth seems to
be contagious." he growled. "You screwed up, my boy. It's unlike you."
Dominic just folded his arms, and scowled.
"You know I should fire you for such a mistake." Giovanni said,
narrowing his triangular eyes.
His nephew thought for a moment. He never really liked working
for his uncle. Didn't like stealing from people, or separating friends
like he had almost done today to Ash and Pikachu. As a matter of fact,
he didn't even like his uncle.
He looked to Giovanni again, and scowled even more. "You know
uncle, maybe you should fire me." he said before pausing for a moment,
then smiling at him. "Or better yet, why don't I just quit?"
"Dominic, it was an empty threat." he assured, seeming surprised
with his sudden change of attitude.
"I see it as more of a good idea." he said, feeling quite good
that he was finally standing up to the malicious man in front of him.
"I never liked it here anyway. I only did it for the money, and I have
quite a healthy savings account now."
"Dominic, you're one of my best agents!" he said, trying to calm
him down. "You have a real future with me!"
"All I've ever wanted for my future, was to join the Pokemon
League." he said, patting the case of badges in his coat. "But you've
been holding me back from that future."
Giovanni stood up, becoming furious all of a sudden. "Now you
listen to me, boy! No one leaves Team Rocket unless I fire them!"
Dominic just laughed, mocking his uncle. "That's strange because
by walking to the door..." he said as he approached the door to the
office, "... and walking out, after saying 'I quit,' doesn't that mean
I'm leaving Team Rocket?"
His uncle scowled at his cheekiness.
"Goodbye uncle." he said as he opened the door. "I'll be sure to
send you a postcard or two while on my pokemon journey."
He walked down the hall towards the elevator and chuckled as he
heard Giovanni screaming at him.
"DOMINIC!!! COME BACK HERE!!!" he roared. "DOMINIC, IF YOU LEAVE
THIS BUILDING DON'T EVER COME BACK, BECAUSE YOU WON'T BE GETTING YOUR
JOB BACK!!!"
He walked into the elevator, and as it closed he couldn't help
laughing when he heard his uncle's scream fading as the elevator headed
for the destroyed lobby.
"DOMINIIIIIIIIIIIC!!!!!!!"

***

He had left his uncle! She had looked into his mind, and
discovered that he was sick and tired of doing bad things to people, and
had just decided quit.
She was so pleased with his decision, and was now following him
down a dirt road that led out of Viridian City. She wasn't trying to
hide her self from him any more. Now she was sure that he was a good
man to the core, and had decided to finally reveal herself too him.
Though she still couldn't help but be scared of getting hurt.
She ran passed him and behind a large rock by the road. She
peeked up from behind it, and as Dominic approached he noticed her, and
a surprised expression appeared on his face. He walked up closer, and
she was so scared, and yet so hopeful.
"Hello there." he said, warmly. "Are you the one that's been
following me all this time?"
She climbed up on top of the rock, and looked up into his eyes.
She then looked down to the ground, and nodded nervously.
"Why?" he asked.
She was going to explain, but decided instead to reach into his
mind and show him the events of the last few days she had spent
following him.
He smiled and knelt down in front of her. "Well I'm flattered,
little one." he said smiling warmly. She sensed him reaching out to her
mentally, and when he did he gasped. "Wow, that's warm!" he whispered,
feeling from her, what she had been feeling from him since she had first
seen him on that ferry.
Was he going to accept her? Was he going to pick her up, hug her,
and carry her with him on his pokemon journey in his warm arms? Oh, how
she hoped that he would.
"Would you like to come with me?" he asked, in a voice so warm she
could feel it.
She could hardly believe her fondest dream was coming true! She
nodded excitedly, before he would change his mind.
He smiled, reached into his bag and removed a pokeball. She
cowered, as he enlarged it, and he sensed her fear.
The others she had wanted as her friends, had taken out pokeballs
and had their pokemon attack her. All of them had done it, wanting to
capture her! They had wanted a slave, not a friend! Was Dominic like
them? Did he want to hurt her?
"Don't you like pokeballs?" he asked.
She shook her head, terrified that he was going to hurt her.
"Pokemon usually stay in pokeballs, don't you want to?"
She shook her head again, and was almost ready to cry, certain
that he was going to attack her now.
He smiled that wonderful smile again, and shrunk the pokeball down
and put it back into his bag. "Okay then." he said. "This pokemon
journey is going to be lonely, it would be good to have someone with me
all the time, to keep me company."
He scratched her behind her pointed ear, and her long tail waved
from side to side, and she closed her eyes happily. She opened her eyes
again, looked up to him and held out her tiny arms to him, gesturing for
him to pick her up.
He smiled and lifted her from the rock, and she jumped forward to
his chest, hugging him, her tiny arms not even reaching around the front
of his chest.
He seemed surprised at her sudden affection, but smiled again and
wrapped his own arms right around her body, pulling her into an
affectionate embrace. He was so warm.
After hugging for a moment, he lifted her to his shoulder, where
she hugged the side of his head, and stroked the soft fur of her cheek
against the smooth skin of his. She closed her eyes, feeling so happy
that her heart hurt, and tears trickled from her adorably large eyes.
"You know what, little one?" he said, moving his head so his cheek
stroked against hers as well. "I think we're going to be really good
friends."
Those words made her feel happier than she had ever been in her
entire existence, and she hugged the side of his head even tighter.
"What's your name?" he asked.
She told him her name. Like most pokemon it was all she could
say.
His smile widened even more, and she purred softly from the pure
joy and warmth emanating from this man. Her soul mate.
"Hello Mew." he whispered, warmly. "My name's Dominic."

The End

Okay that's a wrap... For now. This is my first pokemon fic, so don't
judge me too harshly. Though I do love to get email, so please send me
some feedback. Please don't let this poor lonely fanfic author down.
:(

I would love to write a few more Pokemon fics, but probably won't if no
one liked this one. So if you want to see more of Dominic and Mew,
please don't be shy about telling me. Because if you don't tell me you
want more, chances are there won't be. Make sense? :)

Yeah if you didn't notice it from my story, I really hate that Team
Rocket intro. It was okay the first time I suppose, but after the ten
zillionth time it got to be a real pain in the unmentionables.

Well better quit it with the authors notes before you start getting
bored. (Too late!) If you hated this story and want to give me some
constructive criticism, or you loved it and want to say how wonderful
and talented I am, or anything in between, please email me! Well
goodbye until next time then, you wonderful readers.
