Sandshrew Day

Sandshrew Day
by Cheyne Keresoma
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disclaimer: I'm pretty sure I don't own any of the characters featured
in this story ('cause if I did I'd be filthy rich!!), and that they all
belong to Nintendo and 4Kids Entertainment, except of course the few
minor characters that I just made up. No profit is being made from this
work, so if the enormously wealthy creators of Pokemon decide to sue me
just to be assholes, I'll be really PISSED OFF! Though I doubt that
they can. ^_^

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: This is in reply to one of The Wise One's movie challenges, to be
based on the movie Groundhog Day. It turned out really long, and a lot
of it is just scenes ripped off from the movie. But I hope you enjoy it
anyway.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ash Misty and Brock all walked into Professor Oak's laboratory and
found him sitting in front of a computer terminal with his back to them,
typing in a list of the day's findings with his pokemon.
"Hi Professor!!" Ash yelled far too loudly, causing the old man to
jump with fright and fall out of his chair.
He looked up to the boy and smiled, as usual being very nice and
choosing not to tell him off. "Oh, hello Ash." he greeted cheerfully.
Brock and Misty waved, while Pikachu ran up from behind his
trainer, and looked up at the professor with a warm smile.
"Pika Pika!" he greeted.
"Why'd you want me to come by so urgently?" Ash asked.
The professor walked back to his computer, and typed for a moment,
bringing up an image of an Sandshrew on the large screen. "Winter is
almost over in a small place called Ivory Town." he explained pointing
to the picture.
"Is this something to do with Sandshrew Day?" Brock asked.
"Very perceptive, young man." Professor Oak praised.
"Sandshrew Day?" Ash asked, sharing an unknowing glance with
Misty.
"In Ivory town, the winters are very cold." Brock started to
explain. "They have a custom called Sandshrew Day, when a Sandshrew
that has been hibernating, is taken out of his burrow. If the Sandshrew
comes out and sees his shadow, it's said that there'll be an early
spring. If he doesn't see his shadow, there will not be."
"You are obviously very well educated, young Brock." the professor
said, warmly. "Perhaps we should discuss a few of our theories over
coffee some ti..."
"Excuse me, Professor!" Ash interrupted, with an impatient looking
smile on his face. "But what's all this about Groundhog Day?"
"That's Sandshrew Day." Brock corrected.
"What's a Groundhog?" Misty asked.
The professor waited for the confusion to subside a little before
he answered. "It's a mystery as to how and why the Sandshrew can
predict the length of the winter. It only occurs in Ivory Town, and I
want to know why, so I'm sending you to gather information, Ash."
"But I'm a trainer, not a scientist." Ash complained, not wanting
to do this boring sounding job.
"A great pokemon trainer knows how to gather information, and
learn more about his or her pokemon." he replied. "It's more than just
capturing them, and battling."
He sighed in defeat before he answered. "Okay, I'll go." he
whispered, knowing that he had to do this to learn how to become a
better trainer.
"Take Misty and Brock with you too." he added.
"What?" he asked, looking to his two friends that he was probably
going to take with him anyway. "Why?"
"Because Brock may be helpful with his obvious knowledge of the
event, and I believe young Miss Waterflower would enjoy the festivities,
not to mention the numerous water and ice type pokemon you can find in
Ivory Town at this time of year." he replied.
Ash brightened at the mention of pokemon. "Okay, let's go!"
"Wait a moment, young Ash." the professor chuckled, as he picked
up a very large and very heavy metal suitcase, that he handed to Ash.
"You'll need this."
Ash groaned from straining with the heavy load, holding it with
both hands, as his legs nearly gave out. "Wh... What's this?" he
grunted.
"Camera, and computer equipment, to record the Sandshrew Day
event." he replied. "And if young Brock is able to drive, I can also
loan you my van."
"Yes I can drive!" Brock assured, seeming quite eager to get
behind the wheel of the professor's van.
"Great, for once we don't have to walk all the way." Misty said,
with a pleased smile.
"Toge toge priiii!" Togepi squealed happily, from where he was
nestled in Misty's arms.
"O... o... okay..." Ash stammered, as he continued to struggle to
carry the massive case of equipment. "Let's... g... go!" he finished,
before collapsing and groaning in pain after being crushed under the
metal case. "Pleeeaaase!" he groaned. "Get this thing off of me!"
Misty shook her head, and lifted the case off of him, revealing
she was a lot stronger than him because she had no trouble keeping it
off the ground.
"There you go, you big baby." she mumbled.
They all headed for the door, but before they left, Professor Oak
added something final. "Oh and there is something that might interest
your friends that has to do with the Sanshrew's name." he said.
"Really?" Misty asked, handing the bag to Brock who seemed to have
a lot of trouble carrying it too. "What?"
Due to the grey tinge to the Sandshrew's shell, they gave him a
rather interesting name." he continued.
The trio looked to each other blankly, but when Professor Oak told
them, Brock and Misty started laughing at their friend, and Ash sighed
knowing he wasn't going to hear the end of it for the whole trip.
The professor was laughing too, as he finished what he was saying.
"His name is Ash."

***

Brock was driving the van down a calm country dirt road, with Ash
in the front passenger seat, and Misty in the back, directly behind
them.
"I don't know what's so great about this Sandshrew stuff!" Ash
mumbled.
"Well I think it's cute!" Misty argued, with a smile as she played
with her Togepi. "The little Sandshrew comes out of his burrow, and
looks around, twitching his little nose..." She tried twitching her
nose to emphasise. "And he does or doesn't see his shadow."
Ash laughed and shook his head. "Do you know how stupid you look
when you twitch your nose like that?"
"Pika!" Pikachu said from Ash's lap, as he flicked up his ears
when he sensed a fight coming.
"I do not look stupid!" Misty whined.
"Yeah you do!" he chuckled, as he pulled down the sun shade above
the windscreen, revealing a mirror. "Do it in the mirror!"
"No." she retorted, folding her arms around her Togepi.
"Oh come on Misty!" he encouraged.
"No!" she said a little more firmly.
"Aw, you're no fun!" he mumbled, turning back to face the road
again, and starting to talk to Brock.
After a few hours of boring conversation, they arrived at Ivory
town. It was a little country town, that had probably been quite white
from all the snow a few days ago, but a lot of it had melted away
leaving patches on the grass and on some of the concrete.
They all stopped at a hotel, but there were only two single rooms
left.
"Well I'm getting one of them!" Misty said, not seeming to care
what the other two said.
"Dibs on the second one!" Brock said quickly, before Ash could
claim it.
"Then where am I going to stay?" Ash whined.
"Why not ask at the pokemon centre?" Misty suggested. "They're
usually pretty hospitable to pokemon trainers."
"And there might be a Nurse Joy there!" Brock said, sounding all
stupid all of a sudden.
"Sorry Brock, but you have dibs on the hotel room, remember!" Ash
said heading for the door. "Good idea with the pokemon centre Misty."
Misty and Brock headed up the hotel stairs, Brock sulking to
himself about not being able to sleep in the same building as Nurse Joy,
and Ash walked through the door. He walked down the road, until he
arrived at a conveniently close Pokemon Centre.
He walked up to the counter, but before he could say anything,
Nurse Joy smiled and beat him to it.
"Oh, you're Ash Ketchum!" she said cheerfully.
"What?" he asked. "How did y..."
"My second cousin once removed, from Veridian City told me how you
saved her pokemon centre a year ago. You've become a popular young
man!"
"Really?" he asked, smiling stupidly as he scratched the back of
his head. "Well... I... er..."
"How can I help you, Mr Ketchum?" she asked cheerfully.
"Well, I could really use a place to sleep tonight, I'm here for
the Sandshrew Day." he explained.
"You're in luck Ash, we have a fully furnished room available."
she replied, with the cherry smile still on her face. "We usually
reserve it for emergencies, but I'll make an exception for you."
"Gee thanks!" he said with a warm smile, scratching the back of
his head again.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu agreed, from where he stood on Ash's
shoulder.
"I'll show you to your room." she said, leading him upstairs.
After an hour he had finished preparing the clothes he needed for
the next day, and had stripped down to his boxers and T-shirt, and
climbed into bed.
Pikachu jumped onto Ash's pillow and curled up, leaving Ash enough
room to put his head.
The boy looked at the alarm clock/radio beside his bed, and
thought for a moment. He had to be at the Sandshrew Festival at 6.30am,
so he'd set the alarm clock for 6am.
After he had finished, he turned the lamp next to his bed off, and
lay down on his pillow, falling asleep.

***

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash woke up and immediately got out of bed, still not entirely
awake with his eyes half closed.
"Pika!" Pikachu said sleepily, saying good morning.
Then a voice came from the radio. "OKAY CAMPERS, RISE AND SHINE,
AND DON'T FORGET YOUR BOOTIES, 'CAUSE IT'S _COLD_ OUT THERE TODAY!"
"IT'S COLD OUT THERE _EVERY_ DAY!" another voice added. "WHAT DO
YOU THINK THIS IS, CINNIBAR ISLAND?!"
"NOT HARDLY!" the first voice said. "AND YOU CAN EXPECT SOME
HAZARDOUS TRAVEL LATER TODAY DUE TO THAT BLIZZARD THAT'S COMING IN!"
"YES THERE IS, AND THAT'S ANOTHER REASON WHY THE WEATHER TODAY IS
ESPECIALLY..."
"ESPECIALLY _COLD_!" second voice finished.
"ESPECIALLY _COLD_; OKAY! BUT THE BIG QUESTION TODAY, THAT'S ON
EVERYBODY'S LIPS."
"EVERBODY'S _CHAPPED_ LIPS!" the other guy added.
"OKAY, THEIR _CHAPPED_ LIPS, IS THAT, DO YOU THINK THAT ASH IS
GOING TO COME OUT AND SEE HIS SHADOW?"
"IVORY TOWN ASH!"
"THAT'S RIGHT BOYS AND GIRLS IT'S..."
"SANDSHREW DAY!!" they shouted in unison.
As Ash listened to this he was splashing his face with cold water
from the basin in order to wake himself up.
"Whoopee." he said sarcastically as he walked up to the window,
and looked onto the streets below.
There were a number of people walking down the snow patched
street, and a blue pick-up truck drove by the building he was in.
After he was dressed in his clothes, and his Pikachu had climbed
onto his shoulder and clung to the side of his head, he walked out of
his room where he met a largely overweight man.
"Hey, are you off to see the Sandshrew?" the big man asked, with a
big smile on his face.
"Uh... yeah..." he replied, feeling a bit too cranky to start a
conversation.
"You think we'll have an early spring?" he pressed.
"I don't know, I think it might start about June 1st." he
explained as he walked passed him and down the stairs.
The large man nodded thoughtfully for a moment the turned back to
yell down the stairs, "hey that's when spring always starts!"
Ash continued down until he came back to the Pokemon Centre
reception where he found a nice looking breakfast prepared, of eggs,
bacon and toast.
"Morning Ash!" Joy said sweetly. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, just fine thanks." he replied, taking some eggs and bacon
and squishing them between two pieces of toast as a messy looking
sandwich and eating it.
"Would you like some hot chocolate?" she asked, holding up a jug
with steaming chocolate liquid inside.
"Yeah thanks." he said, retrieving a mug from the table next to
him, and letting her fill it.
"Pikachuuu!" Pikachu complained.
"Oh sorry Pikachu!" Ash said, breaking off a piece of his sandwich
and handing it to his pokemon, who happily started to munch on it.
After eating his meal, and drinking his chocolate too quickly, he
walked towards the door. "Thanks for breakfast, Joy!" he said warmly.
"You're welcome Ash!" she replied. "Should I hold your room for
you?"
"No I don't think I'll be staying after the festival." he
explained, not wanting to tell her that he disliked this town for some
reason.
He walked out onto the street, and along the footpath, and was
about to head for park when he heard someone call out to him.
"Well it's surprising what losers you meet just walking down the
street!"
Ash turned towards the familiar voice, and groaned unhappily when
he came face to face with his main rival. "Gary, what are you doing
here?!"
"I'm here for the Sandshrew Day, but you being as brainless as you
are, I bet you haven't even heard of it!" he laughed.
"Hey, that's why I'm here too!" he whined. "Your grandpa told me
to gather some information!"
"Yeah, well he should have sent me instead!" Gary laughed.
"You're just going to screw it up!"
"I will not!" he said, starting to growl.
"Pikapi!" Pikachu agreed.
"I guess grandpa sent you 'cause he thought you and the Sandshrew
would get along, seeing as you have the same name!"
Ash groaned with displeasure. "You know that?"
"Yeah, but I'd better get going now!" he said walking away from
him. "Hanging around losers too long is bad for my reputation!" He
laughed, as he started to leave. "Seeya Sandshrew Boy!"
Ash grumbled angrily and stepped off the pavement, only to
accidentally step into a hole in the gutter that was filled with icy
water, and he cursed angrily to himself.
"Better be careful Ash!" Gary laughed, when he noticed his
mistake. "Sanshrew's a weak against water!"
Ash continued to grumble as Gary's laughter got a quieter and
quieter as he put some distance between them. He stomped the ground in
an attempt to get the unpleasant feeling of water out of his shoe. He
continued until he got to the park, where there were hundreds of people,
who were singing and dancing. Then he heard Misty call out.
"Hey Ash, over here!"
He looked over to her, where she was standing next to Brock.
Brock was sitting with a laptop computer on his lap, that was attached
to a nearby video camera.
He walked up to them and Misty handed him a microphone that was
also attached to the camera. "Here, you make comments on the event, and
I'll film it."
"I thought you would want to be in front of the camera." Ash mused
out loud.
"Are you crazy, a camera adds ten pounds!" she snapped.
"Fine, I guess I don't know you as well as I thought I did." he
said, shrugging his shoulders, then standing so the stage with the
Sandshrew Burrow was behind him.
"Okay it's about to start!" Brock said excitedly, as he typed into
the computer when Misty switched the camera on, and pointed it at Ash.
He stood silent for a moment, looking quite stupid with the
microphone in his hand, when Misty scolded him.
"Say something!" she snapped.
"What, I don't know what to say!" he retaliated.
"Just say something about what's happening, dummy!"
Ash looked to the stage, where an elderly man with a long black
cane tapped on a wooden door that covered the Sandshrew's chamber.
"Okay, an old guy is knocking on the Sandshrew's door." he said
into the microphone, without enthusiasm, and receiving a dirty glare
from the girl holding the camera.
He then opened the door, and pulled out the Sandshrew with a grey
tinge to his shell, and held him up to show the hundreds of people, who
all cheered enthusiastically.
"And now he's bringing out the little rat, and showing him to
everyone, and everyone is happy." he continued.
"Ash!" she hissed, angrily.
"And now the old guy is showing how senile he is by whispering
into the Sandshrew's ear." he continued.
"Aaaaaash!" she growled, with even more anger in her voice.
The old man walked up to the Microphone on the stage and started
making an announcement. "I hereby announce that Ash the Sandshrew..."
Misty and Brock started laughing again, and Ash tried to ignore
them.
"... Has told me in Sanshrewnese that he has come out of his
burrow and definitely did _not_ see a shadow. Six more weeks of winter
I'm afraid."
Everyone in the audience booed, and Ash made a final comment into
the microphone.
"The rat didn't see his shadow, and now everyone hates him." he
finished.
"Do you think you could have done that with a little less
sarcasm?" Misty growled.
"Come on, I just made a boring job entertaining!" he countered.
"Oh grow up!" she said angrily, as she turned off the camera and
Brock saved the data he had recorded on the laptop and closed it.
"Okay, where all finished now." Brock said, as usual keeping calm
while the two of them argued.
"Great!" Ash said. "Let's go back home to Pallet, this town is
boring!"
"Pi pikachu!" Pikachu agreed, from where he still clung to the
side of Ash's head.
They packed all the equipment up and headed back for the van.

***

"Uh oh, looks like a lot of traffic ahead." Brock said, looking
from where he was driving the van.
"Looks more like a road block to me." Misty pointed out.
"What?!" Ash said, annoyed. He jumped out of van and into the
freezing air with millions of snow flakes falling from the sky, and
started to head towards the end of the line of cars. Seeing as he was
only wearing his usual trainers outfit, it was starting to get extremely
cold.
There was a big truck blocking off the tunnel out of town, and an
Officer Jenny standing in front of it, who was wearing a very warm
looking police outfit, looked to Ash.
"And what do you think you're doing out here?" she asked.
"I... I... want t... t... to know what's g... going o... on!" he
said, shivering from the cold.
"All roads out of town are closed due to the Blizzard." she
replied.
"Wha... what are you t... t... talking about?!" he stammered.
"It's j... just a few f... f... flakes!"
"Listen kid, you either go back to Ivory Town, or you carry on
through the tunnel and freeze to death!" she explained. "I'm giving you
a choice."
He looked back to the boring town, then to the tunnel, then he
looked back to the town again.
"Well?!" she asked, wanting to hear his choice.
"I'm thinking!" he replied.

***

Ash was on the vid-phone with a lady operator, arguing with her,
while Misty was outside trying to keep Brock from jumping officer Jenny.
"What do you mean the lines are out?!" he asked angrily.
"I mean they're not working." she replied cheekily.
"I know that!" he said, frustrated. "Don't you have a special
line for famous pokemon trainers, or emergencies?"
"Which are you?" she asked.
"I'm both!" he yelled. "I'm a famous pokemon trainer in an
emergency!"
"I'm sorry sir, but you'll have to try tomorrow!" she explained.
"But..."
"Bye!" she interrupted, before hanging up and her image faded from
the screen.
Ash sighed and looked down to his pokemon. "Looks like we're here
for another night, Pikachu."
"Pi pikachuuuu!" Pikachu whined, seeing as he seemed to dislike
the town just as much as Ash.
"Yeah, I hate it too." he said, as he lifted the little electric
mouse to his shoulder. "But as long as it's only one more day, it's
okay, right Pikachu?"
"Pikachu!" he agreed.

***

Ash walked towards his bed after he had gotten ready, and climbed
in. Pikachu sat on his pillow singing that popular pokemon song that
had been playing on the clock/radio when he had woken up.
"Pika pikaaaa, pikachu!
Pika pikachuuuu!
Pika pikaaa pikaaachu!
Pi pi pikachuuu!"
"You're going to have to teach me how to sing it like that some
time, Pikachu." he said as he lay back on his pillow.
"Pika-chu!" he said cheerfully, as he nodded, then curled up on
the pillow next to Ash's head.
Ash turned off the lamp on the table next to his bed, and fell to
sleep quite quickly, looking forward to leaving the town and getting
back to his nice warm home.
Little did he know how long he was going to wait.

As Ash walked toward the bathroom he looked back to the radio.
"Nice one guys." he mumbled. "You're playing yesterday's tape."
"NOT HARDLY!" the first voice continued. "AND YOU CAN EXPECT SOME
HAZARDOUS TRAVEL LATER TODAY DUE TO THAT BLIZZARD THAT'S COMING IN!"
"YES THERE IS, AND THAT'S ANOTHER REASON WHY THE WEATHER TODAY IS
ESPECIALLY..."
"ESPECIALLY _COLD_!" second voice finished.
"ESPECIALLY _COLD_; OKAY! BUT THE BIG QUESTION TODAY, THAT'S ON
EVERYBODY'S LIPS."
"Everybody's _chapped_ lips." Ash said, remembering what he said
the morning before.
"EVERBODY'S _CHAPPED_ LIPS!" the other guy on the radio said
straight after Ash.
"OKAY, THEIR _CHAPPED_ LIPS, IS THAT, DO YOU THINK THAT ASH IS
GOING TO COME OUT AND SEE HIS SHADOW?"
"IVORY TOWN ASH!"
"THAT'S RIGHT BOYS AND GIRLS IT'S..."
"SANDSHREW DAY!!" they shouted in unison.
Ash paused for a moment, getting a little confused, then he ran up
to the second storey window and opened the curtains to look through.
There were a number of people walking down the snow patched
street, and a blue pick-up truck drove by the building he was in.
Just like yesterday.
He threw his clothes on, let Pikachu climb onto his shoulder then
walked out of his room and into the upstairs hall where he again came
face to face with the overly large man.
"Hey, are you off to see the Sandshrew?" the big man asked, with a
big smile on his face.
"Didn't we do this yesterday?" Ash asked.
"Do you think we'll have an early spring?" he asked, not seeming
to notice Ash's question.
He was quite nervous by now, so to his Pikachu's surprise he
grabbed the large man and pushed him hard against the wall.
"Don't play with me, Porky!" he growled, menacingly. "What day is
it?"
"It... It's Febuary 1st." he replied, nervously. "Sandshrew Day."
He paused for a moment then let the man go, and he started to
smile. "Oh!" he chuckled brushing off the man's coat. "I'm sorry, I
thought that was yesterday."
"Oh!" the man said, nodding his head, but not seeming to accept
the explanation.
Ash headed down the stairs to where Nurse Joy had a delicious
breakfast of bacon eggs and toast prepared. Again.
"Morning Ash!" Joy said sweetly. "Did you sleep well?"
He looked at Joy with a bewildered expression. "Um... Yes... Just
fine thanks." he replied, slowly walking to the table, taking some eggs
and bacon and cautiously squishing them between two pieces of toast,
into a messy looking sandwich, and he nervously started eating it.
"Would you like some hot chocolate?" she asked, holding up a jug
with steaming chocolate liquid inside.
"Er... Okay." he said, retrieving a mug from the table next to
him, and lifting it with a shaky hand.
"Pikachuuu!" Pikachu complained.
"Oh... Sorry Pikachu!" Ash said slowly, giving the entire
sandwich, that only had a few bites out of it, to his pokemon, who
looked on the large serving with quite a lot of shock, but then happily
started to munch on it.
"Uh, Joy." he asked. "Do you ever have deja vu?"
"I don't know." she replied, shrugging her shoulders. "But I
could check with the kitchen if you'd like!"
He decided not to ask her any more questions after that answer,
and after sculling his chocolate down, he walked towards the door.
"Thanks for breakfast, Joy!" he said, starting to think he was going
insane.
"You're welcome Ash!" she replied. "Should I hold your room for
you?"
"Um..." he stopped, and thought for a moment. "I might be staying
an extra night, I don't know." he finished, as he walked out the door.
He walked out onto the street, and along the footpath, and was
about to head for park when he heard someone call out to him.
"Well it's surprising what losers you meet just walking down the
street!"
Ash turned towards the familiar voice, but instead of groaning
unhappily when he came face to face with his main rival, he just looked
at him with even more shock on his face. "Oh... Hi Gary." he said
before remembering what he said the day before. "What are you doing
here?"
"I'm here for the Sandshrew Day, but you being as brainless as you
are, I bet you haven't even heard of it!" he laughed.
"Oh, that's why I'm here too!" he said, slowly. "Your grandpa
told me to gather some information!"
"Yeah, well he should have sent me instead!" Gary laughed.
"You're just going to screw it up!"
"I will not!" he said, starting to get angry again.
"Pikapi!" Pikachu agreed, with his mouth full.
"I guess grandpa sent you 'cause he thought you and the Sandshrew
would get along, seeing as you have the same name!"
Ash groaned with displeasure. "Geez, give me a break!"
"Well, I'd better get going now!" he said walking away from him.
"Hanging around losers too long is bad for my reputation!" He laughed,
as he started to leave. "Seeya Sandshrew Boy!"
Ash grumbled angrily again and stepped off the pavement, only to
accidentally step into a hole in the gutter that was filled with icy
water, and he cursed to himself.
"Better be careful Ash!" Gary laughed, when he noticed his
mistake. "Sanshrew's are weak against water!"
Ash started to run down the road as Gary's laughter got a quieter
and quieter as he put some distance between them. He stomped the ground
in an attempt to get the unpleasant feeling of water out of his shoe.
He continued until he got to the park, where there were hundreds of
people, who were singing and dancing. Then he heard Misty call out.
"Hey Ash, over here!"
He looked over to her, where she was standing next to Brock.
Brock was sitting with a laptop computer on his lap, that was attached
to a nearby video camera.
He ran up to Misty, and gently clasped her arm. "Misty, I need to
talk to you about something."
"Ash!" she snapped. "We have work to do!"
"But I really need to..."
Misty handed him a microphone that was also attached to the
camera. "Here, you make comments on the event, and I'll film it."
He decided to do what she said. "Okay, I guess you don't want to
be in front of the camera 'cause it adds ten pounds, huh?" Ash asked.
"Yes..." she said, surprised by his perceptiveness. "That's
exactly right."
"Okay let's get this over with, again." he said, moving so the
stage and the Sandshrew Burrow was behind him.
"Again?" Misty asked.
"Okay it's about to start!" Brock said excitedly, as he typed into
the computer when Misty switched the camera on, and pointed it at Ash.
He started commenting, being a little more serious this time, as
the old man repeated what he had done the day before. Though it wasn't
really the day before, because it had really been today, yesterday.
Ash started to get confused.
The old man walked up to the Microphone on the stage and started
making an announcement. "I hereby announce that Ash the Sandshrew..."
Misty and Brock started laughing again, and Ash ignored them
completely this time.
"... Has told me in Sanshrewnese that he has come out of his
burrow and definitely did _not_ see a shadow. Six more weeks of winter
I'm afraid."
Everyone in the audience booed again, and Ash made a final comment
into the microphone, that was more serious this time.
"That was a nice job Ash." Misty said, with a smile. "I'm
surprised.
"You didn't think that yesterday." he mumbled.
"Huh?" she asked, confused, as she turned off the camera and Brock
saved the data he had recorded on the laptop and closed it.
"Okay, where all finished now." Brock said.
"So Misty!" Ash said. "Do you think we can talk now?"
"Sure, what about?" she asked.
"Er..." He thought for a moment before deciding against it,
thinking she might think he was crazy. "Um, nothing. You want to get
something to eat at the cafe?"
"Pi pikachu!" Pikachu groaned, due to the stomach ache from eating
too much.
"Don't you want to get back to Pallet?" she asked.
"Uh... no, I have a feeling the road's going to be closed." he
replied.
Brock packed all the equipment back into the van, as Ash and Misty
headed for the cafe.

***

Ash sat on his bed next to the Pikachu, with the vid-phone
receiver to his ear, and the operator lady on the picture display again.
He didn't want Misty to think he was nuts, so he hadn't told her,
deciding that he was only having a seriously bad case of deja vu.
"What do you mean the lines are out?!" he said again, to the
operator.
"I mean they're not working!" the cheeky operator said again.
"I'm sorry sir, you'll have to try again tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?!" he asked, annoyed. "What if there isn't a tomorrow?
There wasn't today!"
The lady in the vid-display looked at him for a moment, then hung
up, and her picture faded out.
Ash slammed the receiver down. "Stupid social servants!"
Pikachu sat down, singing that pokemon theme, as Ash climbed into
bed again with his Pikachu curled up next to his head. Just as a
precaution he pulled a pencil from one of the night-stand drawers, and
snapped it in half, putting one half on top of his alarm clock, and the
other half on the night-stand in front of it.
He then turned the light off and went to sleep.

***

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash woke up and immediately and sat up, fully awake, hoping that
it was just a coincidence that the exact same song was playing again
that morning. He looked for the broken pencil, but found it in one
piece in the drawer.
"Pika!" Pikachu said sleepily, saying good morning.
Then a voice came from the radio. "OKAY CAMPERS, RISE AND SHINE,
AND DON'T FORGET YOUR BOOTIES, 'CAUSE IT'S _COLD_ OUT THERE TODAY!"
Ash got up out of bed suddenly, threw his clothes on, then left
his room without his Pikachu.
"Pikachu!" he called, running after his trainer.
Ash came face to face with the large man again.
"Hey, are you off to see the Sand..."
Before he could finish, Ash pushed past him and charged down the
stairs, with the confused Pikachu at his heels.
"Good morning Ash!" Joy said again. "Did you sleep..."
Before she could finish, Ash walked straight past her, and out the
door.
Pikachu stopped, and started to whine when he noticed the
breakfast that was there, and they weren't stopping to eat. "Pika
pika!"
Ash ignored him and continued out of the door and down the street,
with a now sulking Pikachu following him.
"Well it's surprising what losers you meet just walking down the
street!" Gary yelled.
Ash ignored him, and kept walking, and a confused looking Gary,
paused for a moment and started to follow him.
"I'm here for the Sandshrew Day, but you being as brainless as you
are, I bet you haven't even heard of it!" he laughed, as he ran along
side him.
Ash stopped, turned around, and pushed Gary away as hard as he
could, before running the way he was going again.
"Hey!" he protested, stumbling backwards.
He stepped into the water filled hole again, and Gary laughed, as
he continued on, not caring in the slightest.
He reached the park where the same music was playing, and the same
people were singing, and he ran up to Misty before she even noticed him,
and grabbed her by the arm.
"Misty, we have to talk!" Ash said.
"Ash!" she snapped. "We..."
"Have work to do!" he finished. "I know, but I've already done it
twice, and now I want to talk to you."
"What do you mean twice?" she asked, before the boy started
dragging her towards the cafe. "Ash, what are you doing?!?!"
"Where are you going?!" Brock called, from where he sat with the
computer. "It's about to start."
Misty tried to go back, but Ash was too insistent pulling her to
the cafe.

***

"That is the dumbest thing you have ever said!" she laughed at
him. "And I've heard you say some really dumb things!"
"Misty..." he started.
"You pull me away from that important work for professor Oak, and
your excuse is that you've been living the same day over and over
again?" she asked. "I know you didn't want to do that job, but this is
really pathetic."
"But Misty!" he pleaded. "I really did do that report two times
before!"
They were both startled by someone dropping a pile of glass plates
nearby, and the sound of shattering echoed through the whole cafe.
"Ha ha, nice one!" a cheeky guy yelled from his table. The same
thing had happened the day before.
"You're a slacker Ash Ketchum!" she scolded. For some reason that
really hurt his feelings, and he looked to the floor. "Even more of a
slacker than I thought you were!"
He stood to his feet suddenly, and tried to look angry, but
couldn't hide the hurt in his expression.
"FINE!!" he yelled. "Don't believe me, you couldn't help anyway!"
He turned and ran out of the cafe, and Misty called out to him as he
did.
"Ash, wait!!" she called, before he ran out of earshot. She
lowered her voice, because she knew there was no way he could hear her
now, and said two final words.
"I'm sorry."

***

Ash sat between to a couple of drunk guys at a bar. Though he was
too young, the drunks had vouched for him and he had stayed with these
nice guys and been drinking soda, with his Pikachu sitting on his head.
"The day before I got Pikachu and my pokemon licence, you know
what I spent the whole afternoon doing?" he asked.
"What?" one of the intoxicated men asked, with slurred speech.
"I sat in the back of Gary Oak's car, making out with his older
sister, May." he explained.
"All right kid!" one of the drunks cheered.
"Way to go!" the other one agreed.
"Chu?" Pikachu asked, this being news to him.
"That was a happy day!" he said, nodding his head. "Why couldn't
I live _that_ day over and over again?"
"I hear you kid!" he said, really not knowing what the hell he was
talking about, but being to drunk to care. He turned to the bartender
and slammed his empty mug on the bar. "BEER!"
"BEER!" the second drunk mimicked, slamming his own glass on the
counter.
"SODA!" Ash said, getting the other two to laugh.
"PIKA!" Pikachu ordered, joining in, and getting even more laughs.
"Yeah, two sodas!" Ash said, as they got their drinks.
After a few more hours, he followed the two men out to their car,
as one of them fumbled with the keys.
"Hey man, I don't think you should drive!" one of the men said,
helping him to get to his feet, because he was leaning against the car.
"Give me your keys, okay?"
The man sniffed sadly, and handed his keys to his friend. "You're
a true friend, man!" he sobbed, drunkenly. "I love you!"
"Yeah, a true friend, doesn't let his friends drive!" the other
man agreed. "Here kid, hold him up." he said handing his legless friend
to Ash, so he could support him.
"Here I'll help you get in." Ash said as he let him go, and opened
the passenger seat door. Without the support the man fell over again,
and Ash had to help him up and into the front passenger seat of the car.
"Could anyone else here go for some slapjacks?" the legless drunk
asked, not getting an answer.
Ash walked around to the drivers seat where the other drunk was
sitting awkwardly.
"Y'know!" he said, in slurred speech. "I don't think I should be
driving either!" he finished, starting to laugh.
"Okay, move over!" Ash said. "I'll drive."
"Aren't you a little young?" he asked, as he moved over, and Ash
got in and started up the ignition.
"Nah!" he lied, as he gradually set his foot down on the gas and
started up the street. Fortunately he knew how to drive, just never got
to do it because of his age. "What would you guys think it would be
like if there was no tomorrow?" he asked.
"Huh?" they both asked in unison.
"You know, if you lived the same say over and over again?" he
clarified.
"That'd be great!" one of them said.
"Yeah, no consequences to face for your actions!" the other
agreed.
"And no hangovers!" the first guy added.
"You could do what ever you wanted!" he laughed.
Ash thought for a moment. "Whatever I wanted..." he whispered
thoughtfully. "That's it! I'm going to do whatever I want!"
He swerved the car suddenly, and smashed into a mail box,
completely destroying it, and sending mail everywhere.
"Chu?" Pikachu asked from his perch on Ash's head, sounding quite
startled.
"Hey kid!" one of the drunks protested. "If you want to hit stuff
let us drunk folk drive!"
A siren sounded behind them, and they noticed a police car gaining
on them.
"Uh oh, the cops!" the other drunk said.
"Oh, okay." Ash said, before turning the steering wheel right and
hitting the brakes, causing the car to skid and block off the road,
cutting off the police car. The cop was forced to swerve and smash into
a magazine stand.
As the police car started to back out, Ash switched to reverse,
and started retreating backwards.
"All my life I've lived by rules!" he chuckled insanely, as he
continued to drive backwards. "Change your underwear, brush your teeth,
don't feed Pikachu under the table, do what the police say!" He
continued to laugh as he stopped backing away, and the two drunks and
Pikachu were both startled where he had halted the car.
"Oh yeah!" he said, remembering something else. "Don't drive on
the railroad tracks!" He laughed as he started to drive down the
tracks, causing the car to vibrate as it ran over the bumpy surface.
"Hey kid!" the closest drunk fretted. "That's one rule I happen
to agree with!"
"Pikapi!" Pikachu squealed, just as terrified as the other two.
The police car followed down the track, and the loud speaker
started relaying it's message. "Pull your vehicle over immediately, you
are under arrest!"
Pikachu and the two drunks gasped when they noticed the large
light that approached them from a distance, and started to get closer,
as a loud horn sounded.
"Geez kid, it's a train!" the man yelled. "Get off the tracks!"
Ash just smiled insanely as he pressed his foot harder on the
accelerator, and continued to head for the oncoming train. "I wanna bet
that he swerves first."
The two men and Pikachu screamed in terror, as Ash continued on,
until the last minute where he swerved missing the train by inches, and
started laughing insanely again.
"I'm not going to live by their rules any more!" he whispered,
with a wicked smile on his face.
He saw as he drove down the road, that there were three more
police cars heading for him, so he swerved of the road and crashed into
a pile of old tyres. He then calmly reached down and turned the
ignition off, and three police officers cautiously approached the car.
"Let me handle this." Ash whispered to the two drunks.
The three police officers, one of them officer Jenny came up to
the car. "Geez, it's a kid!" one of them said in shock, as he wound
down the window, and looked to Jenny who bent down to take a good look
at him.
"Yeah, that'll be three burgers, three large fries, and SODA!!!"
he said, before they all started to laugh.
"And some slapjacks!" the legless drunk added.
"Is it too early for slapjacks?" Ash chuckled.
Later that night, Ash was watching bars closing off the holding
cell he was in.

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash woke up and immediately and sat up, fully awake, then jumped
out of bed cheering to himself. "YEAH!!! ALRIGHT!!!"
"Pika!" Pikachu said sleepily, saying good morning.
Then a voice came from the radio. "OKAY CAMPERS, RISE AND SHINE,
AND DON'T FORGET YOUR BOOTIES, 'CAUSE IT'S _COLD_ OUT THERE TODAY!"
He got dressed quickly and ran outside where he ran into the large
man again.
"Hey, are you off to see the Sandshrew?" the big man asked, with a
big smile on his face.
"Yes I am!" he replied equally as cheerfully with his pikachu
sitting on his head.
"Think we'll have an early spring?" he pressed.
"Actually no, you see I live Sandshrew Day over and over again, so
I know that the Sandshrew doesn't see his shadow, 'cause I lived through
it three times already."
He paused for a moment with a shocked expression. "Oh..." he said
hesitantly.
"Bye!" Ash said, cheerfully as he ran down the stairs to see Nurse
Joy.
"Morning Ash, Di..."
"I slept fine, thank you." he interrupted, before walking up to
his breakfast. He looked at it for a moment then pretended to start
crying. "Oh Joy, bacon and eggs! That's so wonderful of you!"
"Well it was really just an obligation..."
"NO!!!" he snapped, turning to look at her then taking her face
between his palms. "It's a wonderful thing to do, and I will be
eternally grateful for it!"
"Well... I... er..."
Before she could think of how to respond he pulled her face to his
and started a long wonderful kiss. She struggled at first but then her
every resistance melted away as she fell to her knees, and he fell to
his knees with her.
He slowly pulled his lips away, and her eyes were closed, as he
stood up and walked back to the table as if nothing had happened. He
put his Pikachu on the table as he started to make his bacon and egg
sandwich.
"Dig in Pikachu!" he said, as Pikachu started making a sandwich
like Ash's
"Wou..." Joy started, sounding quite flustered. "Would you
like..."
"Yes, some hot chocolate would be great!" he finished, as she
stood to her feet, really confused as to how he knew what she was about
to say. She then poured his drink, and when he finished, he walked out
of the pokemon centre.
"Hold my room for me Joy, I'll be staying another night." he
called.
"Okay Ash." she whispered, sounding a little nervous.
He walked down the street and spotted Gary and headed straight for
him.
"Well it's surprising what losers you... unh!"
He was cut off by Ash hitting him hard in the face with a nasty
right hook, and laying him out on the road, unconscious.
"Who's the loser now?" he laughed, as his Pikachu dropped the last
of his breakfast, as he looked on in shock.
He decided to skip the Sandshrew Festivities, and take a look at
what else happens on this day.
Maybe he'd be able to come up with some good schemes.

***

His Pikachu sat on his head, as he watched the bank.
"Breeze blows by." he said a moment before a breeze blew by, and
shocked his Pikachu. "Growlithe barks." he added, before the sound of a
Growlithe barking sounded from Behind them.
"Pika?" Pikachu asked, seeming very curious and equally intrigued.
"Cue the truck." he said, the moment before a armoured truck
appeared from around the corner and parked out in front of the bank.
"Out comes officer Jenny." he said as she came out of the truck and used
a key to open the back, revealing bags of money.
"Pi pikachu?" Pikachu asked.
"Shhhh!" Ash whispered. "Guy comes up to her... Oh, hi Jenny!"
"Oh hi Jenny!" the guy coming up to her said.
"Oh, hi Alec how're the kids?" Ash said in his best officer Jenny
impression.
"Oh, hi Alec how're the kids?" Jenny said, shocking Pikachu once
again.
"He asks for a roll of quarters, and offers her the dollar bills."
he continues, still predicting the events. "Jenny gives him the
quarters, takes the notes... Then one of her Growlithes comes out and
takes a whiz on the guy's shoes..."
"Oh, God!" the guy said, dropping the roll of quarters to the road
and sending them all over the place, then he started to pick them up.
"10... 9..." Ash started, as he crossed the road. "7... car..."
he stopped to let a car go past.
"That was very naughty, Growlithe!" Jenny snapped, as the dog
pokemon started to whine and run away with his tail between his legs.
"6... 5... 4..." Ash continued as he moved even closer to the open
truck. "3... 2... 1..."
He reached the truck at that exact moment and both Jenny and her
friend had their backs turned, and he stepped up no more that a few
inches from the police officer, reached into the truck and grabbed a
large bag of money, then casually walked away.
Pikachu was speechless, so didn't give him away, as Jenny looked
back into the truck, and started to scratch her head when she saw the
was only one bag left.
"Hey weren't there two..." she stopped, then shook her head.
"Nah!"

***

The two of them sat in the back of her car, and she smiled at him.
"Oh Ash, I had the most wonderful night! But I just can't understand
how you managed to pay for everything! Lobster for dinner, then this
lovely necklace." she stroked the jewels that she probably thought were
cheap, when they were really top quality.
"Oh you'd be surprised how much a pokemon trainer can make when he
knows what he's doing." he lied, with a charming smile.
"Gary doesn't make much." she said.
"I said someone that _knows_ what he's doing!" he chuckled. "Your
brother hasn't got a clue."
May Oak chuckled too, before playfully slapping him on the
shoulder. "That's mean."
"And how often is he mean to me?" he asked.
"Touche!" she replied, with her smile widening.
They moved a little closer, and wrapped their arms around each
other, and they started to bring their lips together, but she stopped
and pushed him away.
"Ash, wait!" she said, reluctantly. "We shouldn't do this, you're
still too young for me."
"Come on, we've done it before." he argued, before giving her his
most charming smile. "Don't you like the way I kiss?"
She started to smile shyly, and she shrugged her shoulders
cheekily.
"Well Nurse Joy liked it!" he said before freezing, and receiving
an evil glare from May that could probably kill a person. "Oops!" he
mumbled.
"You... YOU!!!" she slapped him hard around the face. "Get out of
my car, you chauvinist!! You only wanted to get back into the back seat
with me again, didn't you?!"
"Well... um... Yeah!" he replied honestly, knowing he didn't have
to face the consequences in the morning.
She slapped him again, this time leaving a red mark on his cheek,
and he got out of the car, and she climbed into the front seat and drove
off.
He waved goodbye with a cheerful smile. "See you tomorrow!"

"Ash, wait!" she said, reluctantly. "We shouldn't do this, you're

The night before he had really screwed up at this point, so he
decided to try something entirely different.
"I'm sorry May." he whispered, looking to the floor, and forcing a
sad expression to appear on his face. "Just ever since that day last
year, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you."
"Oh Ash." she whispered, gently stroking his cheek.
"And now that I'm with you again, I don't think I can bear the
thought of being without you." he whispered, repressing the urge to
smile. "I think I... I think I..." he shook his head. "I can't say it,
you'd reject me!" he sobbed convincingly.
"No I won't Ash. Please say it." she whispered, moving her hand
from his cheek, and stroking his hair, that for once wasn't covered by
his pokemon league cap.
"I... I..." he stammered before trailing off.
May leaned forward and gave him a soft kiss on the lips to
encourage him.
"I think I'm in love with you." he whispered.
"Oh Ash!" she said happily, leaning forward and pinning him to the
fine leather of her car seats, and kissing him hard and passionately on
the lips.
He smiled evilly when he felt her slip her tongue into his mouth,
and one word continued to echo in his mind.
"Bingo!"

***

"Well it's surprising what losers you meet just walking down the
street!" Gary yelled.
Ash walked up to him with a thoughtful expression and wrapped his
arms around him in a tight hug, causing him to tense up all over from
shock.
"You know Gary, I always thought I hated you, but I've just
realised that I've been fooling myself." he whispered as he ran one hand
up and down his back and the other into his thick red hair.
"Uh... what... why..." Gary stammered.
"I see now, why every time I see you, I get all angry." he
continued. "I see why I've never been interested in girls before."
He continued to run his fingers through the terrified boy's hair,
and pulled his head back to look into his eyes.
"I... uh... I..."
"Gary, I think I..." he paused dramatically. "I think I love
you."
Gary gasped in horror as Ash paused for a moment longer, looking
into his eyes, then slowly bought his face forward, closer to his in an
obvious attempt to kiss him.
He pulled away, out of his arms suddenly, and looked at his rival
in abject terror. "Ash I... Uh... I have to go!" he stammered, before
running away down the street.
"GARY, PLEASE DON'T RUN FROM ME!!!" Ash screamed, not caring about
all the attention he attracted from other people on the street. "I LOVE
YOU GARY, PLEASE, I KNOW YOU FEEL THE SAME!!!"
He heard Gary cry out in embarrassment as he ran around the
corner, and Ash fell to his knees and put his head into his hands and it
appeared to every passer by that he was crying.
Though in reality he was really laughing his head off.

***

The two of them sat in a cafe together, quietly sipping on their
hot chocolate on the cold morning. Ash had realised after a while how
very attractive Misty was, and decided to try and get her like he did
May. Living the same day over and over had made him a real creep.
"Misty, what's your idea of a perfect guy?" Ash asked.
"What?" she asked, seeming a little surprised. "I'm not telling
you that!"
"Why not?" he asked casually. "I'm your friend aren't I?"
She was taken aback by the question, and didn't seem sure of how
to answer. "I... er... Yes, you're my friend."
"So why can't you tell me?" he asked. "It's the kind of thing you
tell your friends, isn't it?"
"I guess so." she said thoughtfully, before smiling wickedly at
him. "I'll tell you what, I'll describe my perfect guy, if you describe
your perfect girl."
The loud shattering of the waiter breaking dishes echoed through
the store, and Misty jumped, but Ash didn't even seem to notice.
"Ha ha, nice one!" A cheeky guy yelled.
Ash thought for a moment then smiled charmingly. "Okay, she would
have to have red hair!" he said, as he held his chin between his thumb
and forefinger as he continued to think.
"And?" she pressed, seeming quite interested.
"Well I really like a girl who likes water pokemon!" he continued.
"And likes to wear short pants, a yellow shirt and suspenders, even in
extremely cold weather like this."
She looked down at her clothes, then back to him, starting to get
a curious expression.
"And there has to be a reason for her to stick with me!" he said
as he thought some more. "You know, like if I owed her something she'd
stick around. Owed he something, like... I don't know." he shrugged his
shoulders and paused for a moment longer. "Like a bike!" he finished.
Misty blushed. "What game are you trying to play with me, Ash
Ketchum?" she asked, trying to sound angry.
"No games Misty." he whispered. "I've just realised that I care
for you as more than a friend, and I want to learn more about you."
"Ash, I don't know, I don't want to spoil our friendship."
"What friendship?" he asked.
She took this seriously, and slapped him around the face.
He made a note for the next day.

***

"Ash, I don't know, I don't want to spoil our friendship." she
whispered.
"I want to make it more!" he explained passionately. "I want to
know you more intimately than I ever could as your friend. I want us to
share each other."
"Oh Ash, that's so sweet." she whispered. "But it's still too
fast."
"Let's just go out, and see where it goes from there." he replied.
She smiled at him, and placed her hand over his.
"Okay." she whispered.

***

He had spent the whole night with Misty, walking all around the
town, and buying her things that she liked. They had a delicious meal,
then spent hours sitting on a bed of freshly fallen snow, talking and
laughing.
Then they had finally come to the door of her hotel room, and he
had tried to kiss her.
"Ash don't." she whispered, pulling away from him.
"What's the matter Misty?" he asked, as he gently stroked her
cheek with the palm of his hand. "Don't you want to."
"It's too fast, Ash." she whispered. "Why can't we take our time,
there's always tomorrow!"
"No!" he almost snapped, trying to kiss her again, but having her
pull away even more insistently this time. "There's only today, and the
two of us!"
"Ash!" she said, becoming a little angry as she continued to pull
away from him.
"I love you." he whispered, with a smile.
"What?" she asked, not seeming impressed in the slightest.
"I love you." he said again.
"Oh, I don't believe you!" she growled, pulling away from him and
making sure he didn't try and hug her again. "This whole night has just
been to get here to my room hasn't it?!"
"Misty..."
Before he could say anything, she slapped him hard around the
mouth. "Creep!!" she yelled, before opening the door to her room and
walking in, then slamming it hard behind her.
He went home, taking down notes for the next night, but every
night the date always led to her door, and no matter what he tried, it
turned out pretty much the same every night. Her screaming and slapping
him, then charging through her door.
"Creep!!" *slap!*
"Chauvinist!!" *slap*
"Jerk!!" *slap*
"Creepy chauvinist jerk!!" *slap slap slap*
After almost a month's worth of rejections he gave up. He gave up
on everything.

***

"Hey Ash!" Misty called, as he slowly walked up to her and Brock,
who had the computer and camera prepared. She paused and examined him
for a moment. "Ash, are you okay? You look terrible!"
He looked to her with bloodshot eyes, and an extremely unhealthy
colour to his skin. "Let's just get this over with." he mumbled, taking
the microphone and standing in front of the stage.
"Okay." she said, turning the camera on and pointing it at him.
"It's about to start!" Brock said excitedly, for what must have
been the five hundredth day in a row, as he typed at the computer again.
"Look at this!" Ash said, as he looked with disgust at the old man
knocking on the burrow door. "Look at all of these hundreds of people,
singing and cheering."
The old man bought out the Sandshrew, and everyone cheered.
"All of these people gathered here to worship a rat!" he said
shaking his head, then turning to his two friends who stared at him in
shock. "He lays sleeping for a whole freaking season, and when he wakes
up, everyone has a party! I mean it's wrong!"
"Ash, what are you doing?!" Misty hissed, in a hushed tone.
"It's wrong, and it has to be stopped." he whispered, as the man
announced that the Sandshrew didn't see his shadow. Ash smiled insanely
before he finished. "And I'm just the guy to stop it."

***

"Okay!" the old man said, looking into the cage he was carrying,
that had Ash the Sandshrew in it. "Time to go home now Ash."
"Sandshrew!" Ash said without enthusiasm, as he was placed into
the passenger seat of a blue pick-up truck.
Misty and Brock looked on, as Ash came up to them.
"What's up, Ash?" she asked.
"Misty, I'm really going to miss you." he whispered, as he bent
forward and gave her a soft kiss on the cheek, then moved his Pikachu
from his head and put him on her shoulder.
"What do you mean?" she asked, as the boy walked up to the old guy
that had knocked on the Sandshrew's burrow.
"Pikapi?" Pikachu asked worriedly from the girl's shoulder.
"Ash are you okay?" Brock asked.
He walked up to the old guy, and the man smiled.
"Hello young man can I help..." he was cut off when Ash punched
him in the jaw, laying him out on the pavement, before walking to the
truck with the Sandshrew in it, getting into the drivers seat, and
starting the ignition.
"STOP HIM!!!" the old man screamed. "HE'S STEALING IVORY TOWN
ASH!!!"
"What in the world?!" Misty gasped, as the truck reversed to the
road, then started driving towards the country. When officer Jenny
jumped into her own car and started to pursue, and the old man got into
another car as well, Misty and Brock piled into the van with Pikachu.
They started down the road, and watched in shock as Ash's truck
swerved uncontrollably from left to right.
"I thought Ash knew how to drive!" Misty cried, worriedly.
"He can!" Brock replied. "I think he's gone completely off his
head!"
Brock didn't know how right he was.

***

Ash sat back, with his arms folded with his foot pressed right
down on the accelerator. Ash the Sandshrew was on the wheel, seeming to
be having a great time steering.
"Now the idea to this is to keep it steady." he explained.
"Sandshrew!" he said, seeming quite happy. He started swerving
from left to right, and Ash Ketchum started to warn him.
"Now don't drive angry!" he warned. "Never drive angry!"
"Shrew!" Sandshrew acknowledged.
Ash then took the wheel, and turned into an off road quarry.

***

The three vehicles turned into the quarry after Ash, the cars
belonging to officer Jenny and the old man blocking off the way they had
come in. Misty and Brock's van stopped behind them, and everyone got
out, and watched Ash's truck drive around a corner, and conceal itself
behind a large pile of rubble from the quarry.
"We've got him now!" the old man said. "This is the only way out
and now we have it blocked!"
A moment later the truck came out, and stopped a hundred metres
away, facing them and the engine started revving up.
"What's he doing?" Misty asked no one in particular.
Officer Jenny pulled out the revolver from the holster on her hip,
and the old man spoke to her.
"Aim high!" he whispered. "I don't want you to hit the
Sandshrew!"
Brock and Misty looked at him with shock.

***

"Well this is it, Ash." he said, looking down to the Sandshrew
that sat next to him now.
"Sandshrew?" he asked.
He looked to the four people waiting, and revved the engine a few
more times. "Here we go!"
He lifted his foot from the clutch, and pressed his foot down hard
on the accelerator, moving towards them at top speed.

***

"What is he doing?" Misty gasped, as Ash's truck started moving
towards them at top speed.
The truck continued towards them, reaching it's maximum speed,
then after getting only a few metres away, he swerved to the right, and
drove into the massively deep quarry pit. The truck rolled forward in
mid air, as it fell, then it landed upside down on the flat stone ground
with a loud crunching sound.
"AAAAAASH!" Misty wailed.
"Wait." Brock said, gently clasping her arm. "Maybe he's okay..."
They both jumped when the truck exploded into a hellish fireball,
and started to burn.
He looked to Misty again, then back to the truck, then added to
what he had just said. "Or maybe not."

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash woke up and immediately opening his eyes, and just laying
there in disbelief.
"Pika!" Pikachu said sleepily, saying good morning.
"Okay campers rise and shine, and don't forget your booties,
because it's cold out there today." Ash mumbled, mimicking what the guy
on the radio said, in a very depressed tone. "It's cold out there every
day." he continued. "What do you think this is, Cinnibar Island?"
Pikachu flicked his ears up, wondering how his trainer knew what
the people on the radio were going to say before they said it.
"Pika?"

***

He slowly walked into the Pokemon Centre's downstairs room, where
his breakfast was waiting for him.
"Morning Ash!" Nurse Joy said cheerfully. "Did you sleep well?"
He didn't answer as he walked up to the table, placed his Pikachu
next to the food, then unplugged the toaster that had bread in it and
took it.
"Would you like some hot choc..." she started, before she realised
he was ignoring her again, as he walked back up stairs.
She looked blankly to Pikachu who was happily munching on Ash's
breakfast.

***

Ash ran a bath tub full of water, then plugged the toaster into
the nearby electrical outlet. He placed the toaster near to the tub and
removed all of his clothing before climbing in.
He then pushed the lever on the end of the toaster down, bringing
the bread down, and got it to start cooking. He held the running
appliance above the water and held his breath.
He let go.

***

Nurse Joy and Pikachu looked around nervously as all the lights in
the building flickered on and off.
"Pika?" Pikachu asked with his mouth full.
Joy looked towards the ceiling for a moment longer, then stared to
Pikachu. "Oh dear!"

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash woke up and immediately got out of bed, and walked through the
door with nothing but his boxers and T-shirt on, then he ran into the
large man again.
"Hey, are you off to see the Sandshrew?" the big man asked, with a
big smile on his face.
"No, actually I'm going to go and kill myself." he replied
plainly, as he headed down the stairs.
"Oh." he replied, before smiling and waving at him. "Have fun!"
He continued down the stairs where he found Nurse Joy waiting.
"Morning Ash..."
"Yes, slept fine." he mumbled as he headed for the door. "No hot
chocolate thanks, and don't hold my room for me." After finishing what
he was saying, he headed through the door, leaving a very confused
looking Joy behind him.
"Bye." she whispered.

***

Ash waited by the side of the road, before a massive truck came
speeding up the highway as it did every day at this exact time. He
jumped out in front of it the moment it came close, with his arms
outstretched.
The last thing his heard was the trucks loud bull horn, the
sickening splat of the impact.

***

He took in the fresh air that was at the high altitude. He was
standing on the roof of the tallest building in town, that was about six
storeys high. He stepped up to the edge, and looked to all of the
people below, oblivious to what was about to fall from the sky.
Without hesitation, he jumped.

***

A man in the white coat pulled the sheet from the corpse's face,
and showed it to the two people who had come to identify the body.
Misty cried out in anguish, then threw her arms around Brock, and
buried her face into his neck, crying uncontrollably.
"Yes, that's him." she wheezed, as Brock tried to comfort her
while she wept.
The doctor nodded, and pulled the sheet back over Ash's
expressionless face.

***

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash woke up, grabbed the alarm clock, roughly ripping the cable
from the outlet in the wall, and throwing it out the window, with the
loud sound of breaking glass.
"Pikachu?" the little pokemon next to him asked curiously, as his
trainer went back to sleep.

***

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeee..."
He grabbed the alarm clock, and threw it as hard as he could on
the ground, causing it to break into hundreds of pieces, that continued
singing the song extremely slowly.
"... moooooooooooooooon! Goooooottaaaaaa caaaaatch eeeeem
aaaaa...." then it cut out, and Pikachu was again confused as Ash went
back to sleep.

***

Ash decided to go to one of the few places he hadn't been during
this endless time warp. He headed to the forest on the outskirts of the
town, leaving his Pikachu as he had many times before with his bacon and
egg breakfast.
The trees and the forest floor were all covered in fresh snow, and
as he walked through he started to feel the cold, but didn't worry about
it, because he would be just fine in the morning even if the cold did
kill him.
He spent nearly the whole day exploring the forest, and when it
became dark, he was sitting next to a frozen stream. He let his Sqirtle
out of his pokeball, and he seemed to enjoy the cold weather, but when
he recalled him and stood up to leave, he heard a low moan from the
bushes nearby.
"Eon, eon!" the voice groaned.
Ash ran to the bushes and found one of the evolutions of Eevee
sitting down, but when it tried to get up and run from the boy, it
stumbled over onto its face.
"Vapooor!" the Vaporeon moaned, not having enough energy to get
back up.
"Hey, are you okay?" Ash asked worriedly.
"Vapor! Eon, eon!" it replied, in a wheezing tone of voice.
He bent forward and examined it, realising it was a female and it
looked quite old. He stroked her head gently, and she took a liking to
him, as she turned and started licking his hand.
"We'd better get you to the pokemon centre." he whispered, to the
friendly pokemon. "You don't look so great."
He didn't have any of his empty pokeballs with him, so he
carefully lifted the pokemon in his arms, and she didn't seem to mind at
all.
Ash headed back to Ivory Town, and chuckled playfully as the
Vaporeon started licking his face.

***

Ash paced back and forth in the waiting room of the pokemon centre
he'd been staying in. He'd been waiting for what seemed like ages
before Nurse Joy came out and looked to him.
"Ash, that Vaporeon you bought in..." she started, before fleeting
off.
"Yeah?" he asked, eager to hear any news. "How is she?"
"I'm sorry Ash." she whispered, looking to the floor. "She just
passed away."
He stood for a moment with an unreadable expression on his face,
then shook his head. "No." he said, simply.
"Ash..." she started, before the boy jumped over the front desk,
and headed out the back where the pokemon were treated.
"I want to see her." he said, turning the corner, and noticing a
table with a sheet over it, covering something that lay motionless.
"Ash you can't come back here!" she fretted, before he ran up to
the table and lifted the sheet, revealing the Vaporeon that lay there,
with her eyes closed and her face without expression.
He gently nudged her cheek with his knuckles, hoping she'd open
her eyes and start licking his hand again, but she didn't respond.
"What happened?" he whispered, holding back his tears.
"She was old, Ash." Joy whispered, placing her hand on his
shoulder. "Sometimes pokemon just die."
"No." he whispered, shaking his head as a single tear escaped his
eye. "Not today."

***

"Pikapi?" Pikachu asked, from where he was sitting on Ash's head.
Ash had dressed in some warmer clothing this time, and was wearing
his backpack as he headed for the forest again.
"We're going to see someone in the forest, Pikachu."
"Pi?" Pikachu asked. "Pi pika pi pikachu!"
Ash had learned to understand a whole lot more of Pikachu's
language being stuck in a time warp, so he had no problem understanding
that he had just reminded him to meet Brock and Misty for Sandshrew Day.
"They'll do fine without me." he replied, as he picked up his pace
when he reached the forest. "Right now there's someone who needs me
more.
"Pi?" he asked again, as his trainer headed through the forest
until he reached a frozen stream, then crossed it and climbed into a
bush where the Vaporeon was sitting. She tried to run away, but fell
over and Ash sat down next to her.
When he had found her last night, it had been late, but this time
it was early in the morning. She must have been sitting in the same
place for more than a day.
"Hello Vaporeon, I'm Ash." he said with a smile, as he gently
stroked her head, and she licked his hand like she had yesterday. "And
this is Pikachu."
Pikachu jumped down from Ash's head, and waved to his new friend.
"Pikapi!"
"Eon!" Vaporeon replied, as Ash removed his bag, and she looked at
him a little suspiciously as he removed some items.
He pulled out a paper package, and Vaporeon's face lit up when he
opened it and revealed three large well cooked steaks. Ash had learned
from Brock that Vaporeons, and other Eevee evolutions like cooked meat.
He picked up one of the steaks and offered it to her, and she took
it into her mouth and happily started to chew on it. Ash then pulled a
warm woollen blanket and wrapped it around her, the sat next to her and
gently hugged her to add to the warmth. She seemed to like it.
"Eon eon!" she squealed happily, after swallowing down the first
piece of steak, then she licked his face, and he offered her a second
piece that she eagerly accepted.
"There, that's better isn't it, Vaporeon?" he whispered, with a
painful lump appearing in his throat as he remembered the previous
night. "You have some good food in your stomach, and you're nice and
warm. We'll have you good as new in no time."
"Pikachu!" Pikachu agreed.
"Eon, eon!" she squealed again, this time with her mouth full.
The boy didn't realise how happy he was making her, because he was
too busy try to delay the inevitable.

***

"Come on Vaporeon!!" he cried, bending forward, and in a last
desperate attempt to save her, pressing his lips against hers and
blowing air into her lungs. "Don't die, please don't die!"
She lay motionless atop the blanket he had bought to keep her
warm. The only movement she made was the raising of her chest as he
blew his breath into her.
"Pika pikachu!!" Pikachu cried, almost as distraught as his
trainer.
Ash decided it had been a mistake to have bought Pikachu with him.
He had become good friends with the Vaporeon, only to watch her keel
over and die now.
He sat back up after a number of attempts at reviving her, and
looked down into her expressionless face. Again.
"Please don't die." he whispered again, before starting to cry.
"Not today!"
"Pika... CHUUUUUUU!!!" his pokemon yelled, as he send a
thunderbolt into the body of his newest friend.
Her body convulsed a little from the electricity, but then she lay
motionless again.
"CHUUUUUUU!!!" he yelled again, tears dripping from his eyes as he
continued to shock her in desperation. "CHUUUUUUU!!! CHUUUUUUU!!!
CHUUUUUUU!!!"
He suddenly broke down into a fit of tears, and slumped down by
the body and rested his cheek on her side.
Ash fell to his knees, crying himself. "IT ISN'T FAIR!!! WHY DID
IT HAVE TO HAPPEN TODAY?!! IT JUST ISN'T FAIR!!!" He continued to cry,
as he lay down next to his Pikachu, and his voice lowered to a whisper.
"Why am I being punished?"
He and Pikachu both cried themselves to sleep, as snow began to
fall. With the blizzard that was heading their way they would probably
die from the cold. But they didn't care.
At least Ash didn't.

***

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash opened his eyes and looked to the ceiling of his room, with
tears starting to appear in his eyes.
"Pika!" Pikachu said sleepily, saying good morning. It was hard
to believe that the pain of losing Vaporeon hadn't even happened for the
little yellow mouse. He was as happy as ever.
Ash then realised something. This wasn't a day to do what he
wanted, and get his way. It was a day for him to make wonderful for
everyone. Everything that went bad in someone's life before, Ash could
undo.
It wasn't about him any more. He was going to make Sandshrew Day
the best day in everyone else's life!

***

"Hey, are you off to see the Sandshrew?" the big man asked, with a
big smile on his face.
"Sure am!" Ash replied cheerfully, his good attitude seeming to
make the large man feel good.
"You think we'll have an early spring?" he pressed.
"I don't know." he lied, not wanting to depress him with the
truth. "We'll just have to wait and see what Ash says, huh?"
"Yeah I guess so." he replied, the smile remaining on his face.
"I'll see you there, then." he said walking down the stairs, and
to his breakfast where he scooped it onto a plate and used a knife and
fork to eat it with the best of manners.
"Morning Ash!" Joy said sweetly. "Did you sleep well?"
"Wonderfully!" he replied, enthusiastically, as he handed up a
helping of his breakfast for his Pikachu, that sat on his head. "You
keep that room excellently maintained, I slept like a baby!"
She blushed a little and smiled. "Thank you Ash, I do try my
best."
"And your best is just perfect for me." he added.
She blushed a little more, then held up the jug with hot chocolate
in it. "Would you like some hot chocolate?"
"Thanks." he answered, holding up his mug, and letting her pour
the beverage into it. After taking a mouthful, and complimenting her on
how wonderful it was, he asked her a question. "Joy, are you single?"
It didn't seem possible, but she went even more red in the face.
"Yes I am, Ash, but I think you're a little too young..."
Ash interrupted her by laughing, even though he had kissed her so
many times he knew exactly what she liked. "No, I'm not asking for me!"
"Then why?" she inquired.
"I have this friend who's a little shy, and goes a little funny
around a pretty face." he explained.
"Well he won't go funny round me then." she whispered.
"What, are you kidding?" he asked, with a charming smile. "He'd
love you!"
"Well I don't like being set up with guys." she whispered, seeming
unsure of what she was saying.
"Come on Joy." he whispered, looking to her with the charming
smile he had spent a years worth of Sandshrew Days perfecting. "Don't
you trust my judgement of character?"
"Oh it's not that..." she started, before trailing off.
"Please Joy?" he whispered, looking into her eyes with a smile
that was irresistible. "For me?"
She blushed for a moment and then nodded her head.
Ash smiled.

***

"Hey Ash, over here!" Misty yelled.
He looked over to her, where she was standing next to Brock.
Brock was sitting with a laptop computer on his lap, that was attached
to a nearby video camera.
"Hey Brock!" Ash called, before Misty could say anything.
"Yes?" he acknowledged, looking up from his computer.
"Look who I bought with me." he said.
Nurse Joy came up to him, and smiled as she waved cheerfully.
Brock went all stupid all of a sudden, with his face becoming very
red. "Nurse Joooooooooy!" he crooned, in an tone even dopier than a
Slowpoke.
"Hello Brock." she greeted, sitting down next to him. "Ash has
told me a lot about you."
Brock was taken aback by her sitting next to him. None of the
Joys had never acknowledged his attraction, and now that this one was,
he was unsure of what to do. He then started calming down and started
talking normally for change.
"Well I hope everything he told you isn't bad." he replied, with a
surprisingly large amount of charm.
"No." she replied, sweetly.
"Er, would you like to go out for a cup of coffee?" he asked.
"I would be delighted." she replied.
Brock was again taken aback. He must have asked out a hundred
Nurse Joys, but this was the first one to accept.
"Okay guys, it's time to release the Sandshrew." Ash said, as
Misty switched on the camera.
Joy looked to the monitor on Brock's lap, and seemed to recognise
the operating system.
"Oh, I can help." she said, as she reached for the keyboard at the
same time as Brock. Their hands touched, and they looked into each
other's eyes, starting to blush. Then they both smiled shyly.
Ash then went on to narrate, as the old man knocked on Ash the
Sanshrew's burrow door, only this time he wasn't sarcastic as he was
every other time.
He spoke with seriousness, and started a speech he had been
working on for quite a long time now. He spoke about the small town
gathering together in song and dance, to celebrate an age old tradition.
His narration was heart warming, and he quickly attracted a crowd of
people who listened, and a few started crying.
He signed off, and Misty turned off the camera, then everyone
around, including the people on the stage that held the Sandshrew, all
started clapping.
Misty walked up to Ash with a surprised expression. "Wow Ash,
that was wonderful!"
"Thanks Misty." he replied, scratching the back of his head.
"Why don't we go to the cafe for something to drink." she said
invitingly.
"Sorry Misty, I have some errands to run." he replied, looking to
his watch, then turning to run in the other direction.
"Errands?" she asked. "We haven't even been here a day yet, what
errands?"
He just shrugged his shoulders as he continued running down the
street with his Pikachu on his head.
He had to hurry, because he had work to do.

***

A boy no older than five climbed up the makeshift ladder, made of
planks attached to the trunk of a tree in front of his house. He was
climbing to a tree house he was in the process of building, but when he
reached the top and reached for a branch to pull himself up with, his
fingers slipped from his hand hold, and he started to lose his balance.
He had his feet on one of the steps, and was leaning away from the
tree, spinning his arms to try and regain his balance. But he was too
far gone, and he fell backwards to what was likely going to turn out
being a crippling fall.
A young ten or eleven year old boy in a pokemon league cap came
running down the street, checking his watch to make sure he was on time,
then ran up the sidewalk to the tree before the younger boy fell out.
He caught the falling boy with more strength than you'd expect
from someone so young, then started shouting at the terrified boy who
tried to squirm out of his arms.
"WHAT DO YOU SAY?!?!?!" he asked insistently. "WHAT DO YOU
SAY?!?!?!"
The little boy succeeded in squirming out of the pokemon trainers
arms, and ran for dear life down the street.
"YOU HAVE NOT _ONCE_ THANKED ME!!!!" the rescuer yelled, before
shaking his head then deciding to add something further. "SEE YOU
TOMORROW!!!!"

***

An overweight man sat next to his wife in one of the finest
restaurants in town, enjoying his steak lunch, when suddenly he started
to gag on a piece of the meat he had neglected to chew enough.
He coughed and choked, his wife becoming very worried and hitting
his back, to try and dislodge the meat.
All of a sudden a young boy wearing a pokemon league cap, came
barging into the restaurant, ignoring the man at the door who asked if
he had a reservation, then stepped up behind the choking man, helped him
out of his seat, then started applying the Heimlich Manoeuvre, and after
a few fist thrusts into his gut he spat up the meat that was blocking
his air.
The man sat back down in his chair gasping, before anyone could
thank him, he turned around and started back towards an exit, but
stopping momentarily and lighting a cigarette another one of the
customers had just taken out.
"Those things'll kill you." he murmured, before walking out the
door.

***

Misty walked into the building where there was a charity
fundraising party, and looked to Brock who was happily escorting Nurse
Joy on his arm.
"It sounds like they're having a good time in there." she
commented as she heard music playing, and people laughing.
"Yeah." Brock said, looking dreamily into Nurse Joy's eyes.
"That pianist sounds good." Joy commented, hearing some rather
impressive sounds coming from the piano. "Let's go in."
They all walked in, and there were hordes of people inside, and
they were all dancing to the live band music. They walked closer to the
stage, rather impressed with the music the band was playing, and Brock
and Misty both gasped when they saw it was Ash at the piano.
"Oh, I didn't know Ash could play piano!" Joy commented
cheerfully.
"Neither did I." Brock admitted.
Misty just silently looked on, at Ash show casing a talent he had
failed to mention to his friends. He was playing some difficult songs,
using nearly every key, and even the professional musicians he was
playing along with were impressed.
After he finished his first song he turned and noticed Misty
watching him, and he gave her what must have been the most charming
smile she had ever seen. He then started playing a slower song, and
Misty recognised it as her all time favourite. She didn't ever recall
telling him she loved this song, but somehow he knew, and she found it
really sweet.
He finished playing, then stepped away from the piano, shook the
hand of the usual pianist, then he approached the red head.
"Where did you learn to play like that?" she asked in awe.
"In my spare time." he replied with a smug smile. "You liked it?"
"It was wonderful." she replied, warmly.
"May I have the honour of dancing with you?" he asked charmingly,
with a regal bow. Very unlike the Ash Ketchum she knew.
"I would love too." she replied, clasping one of her hands with
his, and placing the other one on his shoulder, while he placed his
other one on her hip.
They started to move, and she was surprised at what a good dancer
he was. She always expected him to be the kind of guy that would
constantly be stepping on her feet.
She smiled warmly at him. "What's happened to you, Ash Ketchum?"
she asked sweetly.
"You could say I woke up this morning feeling years more mature,
than I did when we arrived here." he replied, smiling.
"Oh really?" she asked, before Brock and Joy came dancing up to
them.
"Thank you for introducing me to Brock, Ash." she whispered,
before gently kissing the young man she was dancing with on the lips.
"He's wonderful."
Brock laughed stupidly as they both danced away again.
"Let's go back to my place." she whispered into Brock's ear before
they started dancing towards the door.
Misty was about to talk to Ash again, but another couple dancing
up to them beat her to it.
"Thank you for saving my husband today, Ash." the lady said,
thankfully.
"Yeah, thanks a lot!" her husband agreed.
"You just chew that steak good and proper next time, okay?" Ash
chuckled in reply.
The couple chuckled too.
"I'll do that!" the man said, before dancing away with his wife.
Before Misty could put words to her bewilderment, there was
another interruption, and she sighed when she saw it was Gary, his
sister, and his cheerleaders. Obviously he had come to give them a hard
time again, and spoil their night.
"Hey Ash." Gary said, surprising Misty that he called him by his
name and not 'loser'. "Sorry again for all the times I was on your back
in the past, you really are a great guy. And an all right trainer too."
"Thanks Gary." he replied with a warm smile, continuing to dance
with the completely shocked Misty. "Hi May."
Gary's sister giggled shyly, and waved to Ash in reply.
"ASHY ASHY HE'S SO COOL!!!" his cheerleaders cheered. "IF GARY
LIKES HIM, YOU SHOULD TOO!!!"
As they walked off, Misty looked at Ash with a shocked expression.
"We're here for one day, and all of a sudden everyone loves you?" she
asked in disbelief. "I don't get it!"
Ash just shrugged his shoulders in reply, and before he could say
anything the man that had let the Sandshrew out of it's burrow earlier,
was up on the stage announcing something.
"OKAY LADIES, IT'S THE TIME OF NIGHT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING
FOR!!!" the old man said over the microphone. "IT'S TIME FOR THE
CHARITY BACHELOR AUCTION!!!"
There were a few cheers from the females in the audience.
"This should be interesting." Misty commented.
"COME ON YOU BACHELORS, COME ON UP HERE AND SELL YOURSELF FOR
CHARITY!!!" the old man encouraged, getting a few laughs from the crowd.
Misty was startled when May walked up and pushed Ash towards the
stage, with a smile on her face.
"Go on Ash!" she encouraged.
"Oh I don't know." Ash said, showing that charming smile again.
"Oh don't be a scaredy Meowth, get up there." May chuckled,
pushing him again. "It's for charity, and I've got ten dollars that
says you're mine!"
"Well how can I argue with that?" he said, as he stepped up onto
the stage.
"OKAY, HOW MUCH FOR THIS FINE YOUNG MAN?!?!" the old man asked the
audience. "PLEASE MAKE YOUR BIDS!!!"
"Ten Dollars!" May called out, enthusiastically.
"I HAVE TEN DOLLARS, DO I HEAR FIFTEEN?!?!" he asked.
"FIFTEEN DOLLARS!!!" one of Gary's cheerleaders added.
"TWENTY DOLLARS!!!" May yelled, before the old man on stage could
ask for another bid.
"TWENTY FIVE!!!" the cheerleader countered.
"FOURTY DOLLARS!!!" and unknown girl in the audience called.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE HAVE FOURTY DOLLARS!!!" the old guy
announced, quite excitedly. "DO WE HEAR MORE?!?!"
May looked to the highest bidder, then to Ash, seeming very
tempted to make a higher bid. She really seemed to want him.
"FOURTY FIVE DOLLARS!!!" she countered.
"FIFTY!!!" the unknown girl yelled.
May looked to the other girl and then to Ash again, seeming quite
upset.
"WE HAVE FIFTY DOLLARS FOR THIS FINE YOUNG GENTLEMAN!!!" he said,
seeming unable to believe it. "FIFTY DOLLARS GOING ONCE!!! FIFTY
DOLLARS GOING TWICE!!!" he lifted the hammer to finalise the sale.
"SOL..."
"ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS AND THRITY FIVE CENTS!!!" a
new girl bid.
There were a bunch of gasps from the audience, and everyone looked
to Misty who was holding up her purse. This was a year of savings, and
she had been planning on using it for clothes shopping.
"I can't believe I'm doing this." she mumbled to herself.
"WE HAVE ONE HUDRED AND TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS AND THIRTY FIVE CENTS,
AND I DON'T THINK WE'RE GOING TO GET MUCH HIGHER THAN THAT!!!" the old
guy announced, before hitting his podium with the hammer, with a big
smile on his face. "SOLD!!! TO THE PRETTY YOUNG LADY WITH THE RED
HAIR!!!"
Ash smiled and walked down from the stage. "Misty, I'm
surprised." he commented.
"Well according to the other girls in the audience, you were a
good buy." she giggled. "Why don't we go outside?"
He smiled, and wrapped his arm around his shoulder, and started to
lead her to the door.
Meanwhile, Gary was telling his cheerleaders not to bid for him
because it wouldn't be fair on the other bidders, before he jumped up on
the stage with an overly confident smile.
"AND YET ANOTHER HANDSOME YOUNG MAN UP FOR BIDS!!!" the guy said
excitedly.
There was silence from the audience. If it were any quieter, you
could probably have heard crickets chirping.
"Come now, let's have a bid for this fine looking young man." he
continued, with a little less enthusiasm.
Gary tried posing a little in hopes of encouraging at least one
bid.
The old guy looked around the unresponsive audience. "Do I hear
twenty five cents?"
A little old lady half Gary's height held up her purse, and jumped
up and down. "TWENTY FIVE CENTS!!!" she crowed.
"SOLD!!!" the old guy said, hammering the pedestal. "TO THE
LITTLE LADY FOR TWENTY FIVE CENTS!!!!"
She jumped up and down again, turning to her elderly friends. "I
got him, I got him!" she said excitedly, as Gary approached her with a
disappointed frown. She lead him out the door, and as they left the
lady was heard saying, "you'll just love my muskrat meatballs!"

Misty giggled as Ash went at the ice with a chisel. She couldn't
see what he was sculpting, but her curiosity seemed to be getting the
best of her.
"Since when can you ice sculpt?" she asked.
"Don't move." he whispered, as he got a finer chisel, and started
doing some final touches. "I'm almost finished."
"Why are you doing this?" she inquired, playfully.
"Just thought I should give you your moneys worth." he answered.
She giggled again, but did as he said and kept still.
"Done!" he said, as he put the chisel down.
"Ooh, let me see!" she requested.
He turned the block of ice around to face her, and she gasped as
she came face to face with a mirror image of her own face, crafted in
ice. It had been carved perfectly, and the ice left around the smooth
flawless face, looked perfect as hair.
"Oh Ash, it's beautiful." she whispered.
"Of course it's beautiful." he replied, sending a proud glance to
his work, then a charming smile to Misty. "It's beautiful, because it's
you."
She blushed shyly, and Ash came up to her and sat down beside her,
where she was sitting on a park bench. He lifted his palm to her cheek,
and romantically whispered, "it has nothing on the real thing though."
She smiled, before he leaned forward and pressed his lips against
hers. She allowed herself to enjoy the kiss for a moment, but then she
pulled away from him.
"Ash, wait!" she murmured.
Ash sighed and closed his eyes. "Yeah I know." he sighed, as if
he knew what she was thinking. "I'm moving too fast."
"No Ash." she giggled, as she stroked his cheek with her palm. "I
was just thinking it might be warmer if we went back to your room."
Ash looked at her with quite a lot of shock, but he quickly calmed
and smiled.
"Good idea." he replied, as the stood up, put his arm around her
waist, and they walked down the street to the Pokemon Centre he had been
staying at.

The clock radio was displaying the time 5.59am, then suddenly
changed to 6.00 before music started playing.
"You teach me and I'll teach you." the song on the radio said.
"Poookeeemooon! Gotta catch em a-all! Pokemon!"
Ash opened his eyes and sighed. "Another Sandshrew Day." he
whispered.
"MAN, I LOVE THAT SONG, DON'T YOU?!" the guy on the radio said.
"YEP, THAT'S A GREAT SONG!!" the other guy agreed.
"Wait a second." he said in shock, as he turned to his clock
radio.
"It's too early!" Misty groaned, from where she was sleeping next
to him, as she reached over and turned off the radio, then slumped back
down next to him.
Ash sat up suddenly and looked around. "Wait, this is different."
he said before turning to Misty, and leaning forward then kissing her to
make sure she was real. He sat back up and looked around again.
"Different is good!"
He jumped out of bed and looked out of the window. There weren't
patches of snow all around, but everything was covered in it. There
were no people on the road and no blue pick-up truck driving by.
"Ash, what's wrong?" she whispered.
"What's the date?" he asked, excitedly turning from the window.
"Um..." she thought for a moment, still getting her bearings after
just waking up. "It's... Febuary 2nd."
"Febuary second?" he asked, before taking in a breath of air.
"You mean it's the day _after_ Sandshrew Day?"
"Yes." she replied nodding her head, and seeming a little worried.
"Ash are you okay."
He smiled then jumped back onto the bed, laying down next to her.
"Yes Misty, everything's just perfect!" he whispered, before sharing a
long passionate kiss with her. He broke a kiss after a few moments and
looked right into her beautiful eyes. "Just perfect."

He walked down stairs with the read headed girl, and found Joy
with Brock pinned against the wall, as they shared a passionate kiss.
"Morning Joy!" he greeted.
She pulled away from Brock, and looked to Ash with her face
starting to turn red. "Oh hello Ash. Hello Misty."
"Pikapi!" Pikachu greeted, coming out from where he had slept in
the medical bay out the back with a female pikachu Ash had found in a
pokeball a long time ago. Ash had set the two Pikachus up, so he and
Misty could have some privacy, and by the smile on his face, they had
both had a great night.
"Morning Pikachu!" he greeted.
The two Pikachus affectionately stroked their cheeks against each
other, sending small electric charges into each other.
"Er, I know you enjoyed the bacon and eggs yesterday, but we ran
out today." Joy apologised. "All we have this morning is corn flakes."
"ALL RIGHT, CORN FLAKES!!!" he said with far to much enthusiasm,
and he ran to the table, filled a bowl with milk and cornflakes, but for
once ate nicely even though he felt like burying his face straight into
the bowl.
Misty and the two Pikachus came up to join him, as Brock and Joy
continued with their kissing.
After they had been eating for a while, Joy pulled away from
Brock, and circled his chest with her finger. "I don't want you to go
back to Pallet." she whispered, with a cute pout.
"Neither do I." Brock agreed.
"Yeah, I like it here." Misty added, smiling suggestively at Ash.
"What do you think Ash?"
Ash walked around the table and took her into his arms. "This is
a great town!" he said enthusiastically. And before they both sank into
a long loving kiss he added a few more words. "We should live here."

The End

God damn, that turned out long! I must have broken some sorta record
for writing a challenge!

Anyway for all you people who have seen Groundhog Day, and are now
saying that I didn't base this story on the movie, but pretty much
ripped off every good scene in it, your absolutely right! I rented out
the movie before I wrote this, and a lot of scenes stuck in my head.

Anyway if by some miracle this story turned out good, please feel free
to email me and tell me what an unparalleled artist I am! *Cheyne's
head begins to grow to astronomical size* Or even is you hated it you
can still write me and tell me what an unparalleled artist I am! ^_^

Anyway, I always go overboard with the authors notes, so I think I might
shut my trap this time. Hope to hear from you soon.
