Note: This story is in reply to a challenge issued over the Pokemon
Mailing list by LaurenAnn316, a wee while ago. I hope you enjoy it. Oh
and it's in no way related to the other fic I wrote, Soul Mates. The
sequel to that is coming very soon, if you're interested.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ash looked across to the boy that was about his age, then to the
Golem standing in front of him. For some reason this kid had really
wanted to challenge him to a pokemon battle, and Ash being Ash, was
never a person to refuse a challenge.
"Go Sqirtle!" he said, as he threw his pokeball and the little
turtle pokemon came out to face of with the Golem.
"Squirtle!" he said, with a smile on his face.
"Golem, Rock Throw!" Ash's opponent ordered, before the massive
boulder shaped pokemon reached into the ground, and tore a massive rock
from the soft soil, then threw it at Squirtle.
"Sqirtle, Withdraw!" he said, as his pokemon withdrew into his
shell, and the large projectile bounced off of him.
Though he had a tough shell, there was no way that Sqirtle didn't
feel that rock hit, and his trainer winced, then turned to Misty who
stood watching, with her Togepi in her arms, and Pikachu at her feet.
Though he and Misty spent a lot of time fighting, she was usually very
supportive of him when he was battling, though he did miss the moral
support of Brock now that he had decided to stay behind with that lady
professor.
He pulled his head out of the clouds, and returned his attention
to the battle. "Okay Squirtle, Water Gun!"
"Tackle Attack!" the other kid countered.
Golem pulled his head and limbs into his spherical rock body, and
rolled towards Squirtle, as he proceeded to spray him with a powerful
jet of water from his mouth.
The Golem continued to roll towards his opponent very quickly, but
it was obvious by his grunts as he approached, that the water gun was
hurting him.
"SQUIRTLE!!!" the little pokemon cried, suddenly stopping the
water gun as Golem smashed into to him, then rolled over him like a ramp
and flew into the air.
The golem was unable to control where he landed, being too dazed
by the water gun, and he flew straight in Ash's direction.
"Ash look out!" Misty yelled.
"Pikapi!" Pikachu added, as Ash cried out with fright before the
flying Golem flew straight into his face with an unpleasant smooshing
sound.
The rock-type fell to the ground in front of him, as he took a few
dazed steps back, then fell backwards onto the ground.
Everything was moving so slowly all of a sudden. He turned to
Misty and Pikachu, and they were running towards him in what seemed to
be slow motion, and were speaking just as slowly, with deep tones in
their voices.
"Aaaaasshhh!" Misty said, so slowly.
"Piiikaaachuuuu!" Pikachu added, at an equal speed.
He then shifted his gaze to his opponent, who hadn't moved and
seemed unsure of what to do after having his Golem smack Ash in the
face.
"Gee he looks like Brock." Ash whispered to himself, as he noticed
the familiar features of the boy's face. He paused and looked back to
Misty and Pikachu again, as he started to become confused. "Who's Brock
again?" he asked himself.
He looked to the boy with the Golem again, and shook his head when
he looked at him. "Nah, that's not Brock. So if he isn't then who is?"
He then started to become more confused than ever. "And who am I?"
"Aaaaasshh!" Misty cried again, kneeling next to him.
Ash looked to her and smiled, then chuckled to himself as he
closed his eyes and everything started to go black. "Oh now I
remember!" he whispered, just before slipping into unconsciousness, and
coming to a final conclusion.
"_I'm_ Brock."

***

Misty looked to Ash worriedly as he lay unconscious on the medical
table, and Nurse Joy started patching up some nasty cuts on his face.
"Is he going to okay?" she asked.
"Pikapi?" Pikachu asked from her shoulder.
"It was a nasty crash." she replied, as she finished cleaning his
wounds. "Your lucky his brain wasn't damaged."
Misty contemplated telling a joke about there not being much of a
brain to damage, but decided it really wasn't the time. "So he's going
to be okay?" she pressed.
"Yes, I believe so." she replied, before turning to the boy as he
started to stir. "As a matter of fact, I do believe he's waking up."
Ash sat up and started shaking his head to clear the stars, then
he looked to Misty and Pikachu. For some reason he didn't open his
eyes.
"Hi Misty." he said, rubbing his head. "What happened?"
"You got smashed in the face with a Golem." she replied, before
looking at him more curiously. "Are your eyes okay?"
"Yeah." he replied, seeming to wonder why she would ask such a
question. "Why?"
"Well, you haven't opened them yet." she explained.
"But I can see just fi..." he stopped, when he noticed nurse Joy,
then he got a somehow familiar stupid look on his face and started
blushing. "Nurse Jooooooy!"
"Oh, hello." she said cheerfully.
Ash startled her suddenly, when he jumped off the table and knelt
in front of her then took her hands into his and started speaking
extremely quickly.
"Oh Joy, thank you for saving my life from that Golem, I'd be dead
if not for you, you're the most wonderful medical expert in the history
of the world, will you go out with me, to dinner, or if that's too
forward maybe out for coffee, but no of course that's not to forward we
can go to dinner, or maybe lunch 'cause it is a bit early, or maybe we
can go for a long walk on the beach and then have dinner, or..." He had
to take a deep breath before he continued, because he had been talking
to fast. "Please say you'll go out with me, I promise I'd make you the
happiest girl in the world, please please please please pleeeeaaaassse!"
Joy blushed, more from embarrassment than being flattered, then
she gently helped Ash let go of her hands, and patted his knuckles
before letting his hands go and taking a few steps back. "Oh that's
sweet young man, but I think you may be a little young. Maybe when you
grow up big and strong, you'll find a girl much nicer than me."
Ash collapsed to the ground and started crying as if he'd been
rejected by Nurse Joy a thousand times before.
Nurse Joy looked down on him, seeming extremely shocked and
quickly walked out of the room to keep from upsetting him further.
"Rejected again!" Ash sobbed, causing Misty and Pikachu to send an
extremely confused glance to each other. "Why don't I ever get a break
with girls?"
"Um, you never get into girls." Misty pointed, seeming extremely
shocked and confused by Ash's unusual behaviour. "Getting rejected has
always been Brock's department."
Ash looked up to Misty and stopped crying as if he hadn't been
rejected at all, with a confused expression of his own. "What are you
talking about Misty?" he asked, with his eyes still closed. "_I'm_
Brock."
"What?!" she asked in disbelief.
"Pika?!" Pikachu mimicked.
"_I'm_ Brock!" he said again, before smiling humorously and
pointing to the electric mouse on her shoulder. "Who did you think I
was? Pikachu?"
"Actually, we thought you were Ash." she replied, sharing another
unsure glance with Pikachu.
"Ash?!" he asked, laughing. "That's a good one! Where is Ash
anyway?"
"Try looking in a mirror." she replied, before whispering to
Pikachu. "That Golem must have done more than leave a lump."
"Pi!" he agreed, nodding his head.
Ash did what Misty said and looked into a nearby mirror, then
recoiled when he saw himself. "What the..."
Misty smiled when she thought he was going to come back to his
senses, but it seemed she was wrong.
"What am I wearing?!" he cried, examining his clothing, then
taking off the pokemon league cap and throwing it aside. "And my hair,
what happened to my hair?!"
"Ash..." she started.
"Hey I'm not Ash!" he insisted, turning back to her. "I'm Brock!
Now excuse me, I have to get changed!"
He ran off, out the door, and before Misty could run after him, he
was gone from sight.
"ASH, COME BACK!!!" she yelled. There was no reply, so Misty
found Nurse Joy and told her what happened.
After an explanation that if someone becomes close to someone
else, then is separated from them unexpectedly, on rare occasions they
can be affected by an unusual form of amnesia that makes them think
they're the person they miss. But she assured them that it should pass
over time.
Misty sighed, then ran through the door to find him. She didn't
really think she should even try, but then she remembered that he still
owed her a bike.

***

"Ah, that's better!" Ash said, as he looked into the mirror after
his haircut. "Nice and spiky!" He then turned back to the attractive
woman who had been doing his hair, and smiled charmingly. "Look, are
you sure you don't want..."
"For the fiftieth time little boy, I won't go out with you!" she
said, starting to become very annoyed with his constant advances.
He frowned unhappily, then looked back in the mirror again to
straighten out the new clothes he was wearing, the brown pants, orange
t-shirt and green vest.
He got out of the hairdressers chair, then headed for the door.
"Bye and thank you for the haircut." he said, before turning back and
smiling stupidly as he scribbled something onto a piece of paper. "Hey,
why don't I give you my phone number, in case you change your m..."
"NO!!!" she snapped, before he could finish. "I'M NOT GOING TO GO
OUT WITH YOU!!!"
Ash froze, a little shocked with her sudden outburst, as everyone
within the room started looking at him.
"You're far to young for me, you're no older than 10!" she
explained seeming to calm down a little.
"Ten?" he asked laughing. "I'm much older than that, so that
means you should be able to go out with m..."
"NO!!!" she screamed again, before taking her head into her hands,
and seemed to be getting a headache. "Please, just get out."
He turned back to the door, deciding that she was just in a bad
mood and he should come back later. As he walked out he came face to
face with Misty and Pikachu, and they gasped at his appearance.
"Oh hi Misty!" he said, feeling better after fixing himself so he
wasn't dressed like Ash any more. "How'd you find me?"
"We just followed the sound of the girl screaming 'no' at the top
of her lungs." she replied, with a mean smile. "We figured that was
where we would find a guy that thought he was Brock. Right Pikachu?"
"Pika!" he agreed with a chuckle.
"What do you mean, _thought_ he was Brock?" he asked, starting to
become a little annoyed. "I don't know what kind of gag you and Ash are
pulling, dressing me up like him, but it's not funny! The only thing
you didn't do was switch..." he froze, then looked to his belt, and
started releasing the pokemon from their pokeballs.
"Sqirtle?! Bulbasaur?!" he cried, before releasing another one
that shot him with a nasty Flamethrower the moment he came out of his
pokeball. "Charizard?" he continued, coughing up a lot of smoke.
"Where's Vulpix, Onix and Geodude?!"
"Ash, Brock has them!" she tried to explain. "We left him and all
his pokemon on Seafoam Island, remember?"
"Pika pikachu!" Pikachu said.
"What are you talking about I'm right here!" he yelled, starting
to become very annoyed. "Now tell me where Ash and my pokemon are!"
"This is getting out of hand, Pikachu!" she said, looking to the
little pokemon that was resting on her shoulder. "I think we should try
and cure him.
"Chu!" he agreed, nodding his head.
"Can you think of a way to get him back to his senses?" she
pressed.
"Pika!" he replied, smiling and nodding his head again, then
charging up with electricity. "Piiiiiikaa!"
"No Pikachu, don't!" Misty started.
"CHUUUUUUU!!!!" he finished, as he sent a massive bolt of
electricity into the delusional boy.
Ash screamed, as his body convulsed and after a few moments he
fell to the ground, blackened with smoke rising from his body, and his
nice new clothes and haircut ruined.
"I hope that worked." Misty sighed, as Ash got up and started
groaning in agony.
"What did you do that for?!" he asked, before starting to become
suspicious. "Oh no, now I see! You were hit in the head too, and now
you think I'm Ash!"
"Ash don't be stupid!" Misty scalded.
"No, you've both gone crazy!" he yelled. "I'm getting out of here
before you try to hurt me again!"
He ran at top speed down the street, and Misty tried to follow,
but lost him. After a while he was away from his two crazy friends, and
he sighed with relief.
Then he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, and went all
stupid.

***

"_Now_ what are we going to do?" she asked, worriedly. "How are
we supposed to cure that guy? He's acting like Brock, but he's still as
stubborn as Ash."
Pikachu pulled a story book from somewhere and showed it to the
girl. "Pika!" he said, offering it to her.
"Sleeping Beauty?" she asked, giving Pikachu a blank look.
"Pikapi!" he said, enthusiastically. "Pi pikachu!"
"What, you think a kiss will cure him?" she asked, before a look
of disgust came over her face, and she handed the book back like it was
made of something nasty. "EEEEEW!!! No way, I'd rather he kept acting
like Brock!"
"Pika, pi pikachu!" he started to whine, like Ash did when he
didn't get his way.
"I'm not kissing him Pikachu, I don't care what you say!" she
insisted. "There has to be another way!"
"Chu." he sighed, drooping his ears in defeat.
"But if we are going to cure him, we'd better find him first." she
reminded. "And how are we..."
"FOR THE LAST TIME LITTLE BOY!!!!" a girl screamed, somewhere in
the distance. "I'M NOT GOING OUT WITH YOU!!!!"
"Girls rejecting him!" Misty said, smiling at Pikachu. "Like his
own personal homing device."
They ran to where the screaming was coming from, then found him
kneeling on one knee in front of an extremely annoyed looking girl, who
was far too old for him.
"ASH!!!" Misty called, before he turned to see her and Pikachu
approaching.
"Oh no!" he yelled, standing and running away, to the relief of
the girl he was bothering. "You two nutcases keep away from me!"
"Wait Ash, we're not going to hurt you!" she called.
He stopped, and turned back towards her, letting her catch up to
him. "Really?" he asked defensively, preparing to start running again.
"No Ash we..."
"I'm not Ash!" he reminded, firmly. "I'm Brock!"
"Okay, okay!" she surrendered, before turning to the Pikachu on
her shoulder and whispering again. "What are we going to do now?"
He pulled out the story book again and waved it side to side, with
a cheeky smile. "Pika Piiiikaaa!"
"No way!" she said, turning away from him, and folding her arms
defiantly.
The little electric mouse hit her upside the head with his little
paw, and she turned back to him suddenly.
"Ow!" she whined.
"Pika pikachu!!" he said more insistently, still waving the book
from side to side.
She looked to Pikachu then to Ash, as a scared look appeared on
her face. Then she sighed and shrugged her shoulders.
"Well, I'd better make it a good one." she whispered.
"Wha..." Ash started.
Before he could finish, Misty pounced and grabbed him by the
shoulders.

***

"My God, Misty's kissing me!" he thought to himself, as he was
pushed against a brick wall by the girl. "I can't kiss her, she's way
to young for me!" he continued, as he felt her warm moist lips stroking
up against his. "I'm older than her, I'm..." he paused and thought.
"Wait, I'm ten! Nearly eleven!"
He slowly ran one of his hands up her back and into her hair, as
the two of them were getting lost in the moment.
"So it's okay if I enjoy this." he thought. He wrapped his free
arm around her waist, then continued to kiss her, then realised
something. "Wait a minute, if I'm ten, then I can't be Brock!"
He didn't stop kissing her, because both of them seemed to be
enjoying it, but the thoughts kept on going through his head.
"If I'm not Brock... geez she's good at that..." he blinked a few
times, seeing her pretty face, then continued with what he was trying to
figure out. "... If I'm not Brock, then who am I?"
He closed his eyes, then remembered, as he gently stoked her red
hair. "Oh that's right, I remember now!" he said, before smiling
wickedly to himself. "That loser Ash is going to be so jealous when he
finds out about this!"
If he wasn't so busy enjoying the taste of her, he would have
started laughing as he realised what he was doing.
"Gary Oak is kissing Ash's girl friend!"

The End

Okay, I know it's lame. Just thought the challenge was a good one, and
had to write it. If you enjoyed it, or even if you thought it sucked,
beyond all boundaries of suckiness please email me. I love to get email
about my writing, even if it's criticism. (Do try and make it
constructive though.) Well time to stop boring you now, and write
something that you might enjoy. Hope to hear from you soon.
