Happy New Year
By gerardsxoxangel

“Hey, guys, wait here one second. I gotta go get Hannah. We have something to tell you,” Gerard said.

“You're not pregnant, are you, Gerard?” Frank asked.

“No, the test came back negative. Just wait and see,” Gerard said. He walked over to where Maeve, Lana and Fiona were standing. “Hey, where's Hannah? We have something to tell you guys,” he said.

“She went out to the car to get her purse. That was quite a while ago actually, I wonder where she's got to,” Maeve said.

“We thought she'd gone back to you,” Lana said.

“No, I haven't seen her since she came over here that first time,” Gerard said.

“Maybe she went to the bathroom or something,” Fiona said.

“Hmm,” Gerard said, then walked away.

He searched the whole house for Hannah, the back yard and the front. He checked the car and her purse wasn't in there, so she must have got it before she disappeared. He was about to walk back up to the house when he tripped up on something on the path. He bent down to pick it up. It was Hannah's purse, definitely Hannah's purse. His heart started racing as he scanned the street for any sign of her. He cursed the music inside for being too loud to hear anything.

“Hannah?” he shouted. He couldn't hear anything in response. “Hannah?? Can you hear me??” he shouted, even louder this time for good measure.

This time he heard something. There was a faint sound of screaming coming from around the corner. It was barely audible but he definitely heard it. He ran in the direction it was coming from. It got louder as he moved towards it, but more muffled, as if someone was covering the victim's mouth. He came to a dimly lit alley and ran down to the man who had Hannah pinned up against a wall with his hand over her mouth. He pulled him off her and knocked him to the ground. He kicked him in the stomach and he rolled over. He saw Jason's face looking up at him and he was filled with rage.

“You goddamn son of a bitch!” he shouted down at the boy he had raised as his son for seventeen years. Jason just glared back at him, fury the only thing that could be seen in his eyes. “Get away from here, now!! Stay away from us!! I don't want to see you near either of us again. Now go!!” Gerard shouted. Jason got up and glared at them both once more before skulking away, trying to maintain what dignity he could with blood dripping from his lip and gravel all over him.

Gerard turned around to Hannah, who was now sitting on the ground and crying onto her knees. He sat down next to her and put his arms around her sobbing figure.

“It's okay, he's gone,” he said.

“I'm sorry,” she said.

“Don't be sorry. Of course you're upset. You cry if you want to,” he said.

“Not that, I'm just sorry. I wish you'd never met me. You'd be a lot better off,” she said.

Gerard put his hand on her chin and turned her head so she had to look him in the eye. “You and I both know that's not true,” he said.

“But it is! Before I came along you had a family and a house and now you're renting an apartment and having to assault your own son!” she said.

“He's not my son, in any sense of the word,” he said.

“Still, you were better off before,” she said.

“If I thought I was better off before I wouldn't have thrown it all away for you. I know that I'm better off happy with you than miserable with a picture perfect `family'. Don't you think?” he said. He wiped away her tears with his thumb and kissed her. “You can be so silly sometimes. You know that I love you. Stop trying to change my mind, it's not going to work,” he said.

“I really do love you,” she said.

“I know you do. I'm a shrink,” he said.

“What made you come looking for me?” she asked.

“I wanted to announce our engagement and I could hardly do that without my fianc?. But if you want to go home we can tell them another day?” he said.

“And miss New Year's? Now way,” she said.

“Come on then, it's almost time for the countdown to midnight!” Gerard said, getting up and putting out his hand to help her. They walked back to the house, hand in hand.

“There you guys are!! We thought you'd been eaten or something!!” Frank said.

“Hannah, are you okay?” Lana asked.

“Yeah, you look a little disconcerted,” Mikey said.

“Who do you think you are using big words like that?” Bob said.

“Shhhh, it's time!! TEN!!” Fiona said.
