All I Want For Christmas
By gerardsxoxangel

“Do you hate me?”

“Of course I don't hate you. I wish you hadn't let her get to you like that. It's nothing to get upset over,” Gerard said.

“You're so great,” she said.

“I know. I'm moving into Mikey's tonight. I'll start apartment hunting tomorrow. Do you wanna come with me?” he asked.

“I should probably go back to school tomorrow,” she said, dreading the thought.

“I'm sure I can organize a doctor's note for you. I want you to help me choose. You're gonna be living with me someday so you should have some input,” he said.

“Someday?” she asked.

“Well, after you graduate,” he said.

“Why wait? I can move in as soon as you do! My parents won't care, they'll be glad of one less mouth to feed,” she said.

“I doubt it'll be as simple as that,” he said, raising an eyebrow.

“It can be if you really want it to be,” she said.

“You know I want it to be but I don't want you to get your hopes up too soon,” he said.

“I'll be eighteen soon, it's not like I have a whole lot of maturing between now and then and my parents know that. They know I won't make a rash decision. They trust me more than you'd think. It won't be a problem,” she said.

“Are you sure you want to do this so soon?” he asked.

“Of course I'm sure! But if you're not…” she said, the air fast escaping from her idea balloon.

“Don't be silly. This is great! You get your parents to agree. I don't want your dad coming over to beat me up,” he said.

“He won't! I'll go talk to them now, let you get back to work,” she said.

“Good luck,” he said.

“I won't need it.”

After that, thing started going very smoothly. They short listed some apartments after day one of searching. Hannah's parents were even easier to convince than she'd expected. She told them she needed to know right away to tell the landlord and they agreed basically on the spot, just as long as she stayed in school, something that Gerard was very serious about anyway.

School was easier than she had thought too. Jason and Christi seemed to be taking some time off. Others whispered and stared when she walked past but it was nothing she couldn't handle. Her friends stood by her and that was all she needed. After a while the news became old and everyone had a new topic up for discussion, so she no longer had to keep her head down.

She and Gerard moved into a cosy two bedroom apartment in the very centre of the city. Rent was high but Gerard argued that the location was too good to pass up. Hannah resented not being able to help with money. She felt useless. She was seriously considering leaving school and getting a job but Gerard insisted that she finish her education. He also worried that if she didn't keep up her end of the bargain, her parents might take her away from him.

Hannah held on and soon it was Christmas break. She spent Christmas Eve with her parents, against her will. It was worth it to spend all of Christmas day with Gerard, uninterrupted except for one phone call from his mother.

“This is probably the first Christmas I've spent in my pyjamas,” she said.

“Well if I have my way you won't be in them much longer,” he said.

“Easy tiger, you haven't even given me my present yet,” she said.

Gerard smiled from ear to ear as he went to the closet. He dug around for a while, then emerged with his hands behind his back.

“It must be good, if you're smiling like that,” she said.

“It's kind of selfish but you'll love it too. I hope,” he said.

“Come on, the suspense is killing me!” she said.

He got down on one knee in front of her. At first she thought he had dropped something but then she realised what was going on. He opened the small velvet box from behind his back in front of her, exposing the glistening white-gold diamond ring inside.

“Will you marry me?”
