The Secret's Out
By gerardsxoxangel

The next morning Hannah tried everything she could think of to get out of school. Her parents refused to call in for her and she couldn't afford another unexcused absence, so she was stuck. It was worth suffering through a traumatic day of school to avoid telling her parents that she was seeing her boyfriend's dad for a while longer.

Maeve, Lana and Fiona arrived to walk her to school, as usual.

“I'm absolutely dreading this,” she said.

“Don't worry, what's the worst that could happen? Jason won't want to air this any more than you do. How embarrassing would that be for him? His girlfriend prefers his dad. Not exactly something a guy would want out there, is it?” Maeve said.

“No, but these things have a way of getting out,” Hannah said.

They arrived at the school and didn't attract and unusual attention. Hannah breathed a sigh of relief, but it was a little too soon.

“Decided to show your face, bitch??” Christi said, walking towards them with her posse in tow.

“Christi, don't,” Fiona said.

“Got your friends to fight your battles for you?” Christi said.

“You can't make me feel bad about it,” Hannah said.

“You're not even sorry?? Do you have any idea what you've done?? My dad wants to divorce my mom because of you!!” Christi said, seemingly not caring that she was airing her family's dirty laundry in front of everyone. A crowd was beginning to form around them.

“You tell yourself that it's because of me if that makes you feel better,” Hannah said boldly.

“I don't know what he sees in you!! What was it you said or did to him to make him mess up my family so much?? You stupid bitch, you ought to burn in hell!!” Christi shouted.

Christi lunged forward and grabbed Hannah's hair and pulled it until she let out a scream. Hannah dug her nails into her neck until she let go. Christi slapped her face and tried to knock her to the ground but Hannah pushed her back. Christi went for her hair again so Hannah reciprocated and grabbed hers too.

“Stay away from my dad!!” Christi screamed.

“I would if I knew who the hell your dad was!!” Hannah shouted before she could control herself.

Christi let go and took a step backwards.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

Hannah didn't answer, wishing the ground would open up and swallow her whole.

“What do you mean??” Christi repeated.

“He's not your dad!! No one knows who your dad is, not even your mom!! I guess there were just too many guys for her to work it out. You and your brother and especially your mom are nothing to him, you hear me??” Hannah shouted. She barely caught a glimpse of Christi's expression before she turned around and stormed away but she didn't care. She stormed out of the school, not caring if she was suspended or even expelled anymore. All she cared about was how Gerard would react when he found out she'd revealed his secret in front of a huge crowd of high school students.

She got on a bus to Gerard's office. She was willing to wait all day to see him, and she told the secretary as much. She wasn't waiting long before Gerard stepped out of his office with a patient and saw her.

“Renee, hold all my appointments until I saw different,” he said.

“Yes, Mr Way,” the secretary said.

He and Hannah stepped into his office and he closed the door.
