My Chemical Romance 'All I Want For Christmas is.......'
By Faith

Gerard could hear the music blaring as soon as he stepped off the lift. I'm glad Mikey isn't here to hear this. He walked up to the door and banged as loudly as he could on the door, nothing changed, the music was still just as loud. He tried the door handle and was surprised to find it unlocked. He opened the door and found the apartment trashed, the couch was toppled over, the television was broken, all the cupboards were emptied and the contents were scattered through out the room. The only thing that looked undamaged was the stereo. Gerard turned the stereo off, and listened for any sound of Shay being home, but at the same time praying he wouldn't hear a thing. Gerard made his way through the apartment looking at the damage. Holes in the walls, overturned coffee tables, broken family heirlooms…

“Help,” someone called meekly from the bedroom, Gerard rushed to the bedroom and opened the door. The sight that greeted him was not a happy one. Shay was lying on the floor beside her bed her face covered in bruises, blood dried in patches on the carpet near her head and on her face. Her eyes were swollen shut from bruising and her leg was sticking out at an odd angle like it was broken.

“Shay,” Gerard whispered and rushed to her side.

“Gerard?” Shay replied in a voice which was barely audible.

“I'm here Shay,” Gerard replied gently brushing the hair out of her face and checking for a pulse.

“Help me please,” Shay begged before loosing consciousness.

Gerard grabbed his cellular phone and dialled 911. He stated his emergency and gave an address and waited hoping the paramedics wouldn't be too long. He didn't know how long it was between the time that he called emergency services and the paramedics arriving all he knew is every second longer they took to get to Shays' apartment was a second in which she could die. Gerard followed the paramedics down to the ambulance and climbed in the back ignoring the paramedic's questions of if he was family or not. Gerard held her hand all the way to the hospital. He hadn't prayed or gone to church since his grandmother had died. Now Gerard found himself praying that Shay would be okay. When they got to the hospital Gerard was separated from Shay, he was not able to follow her into emergency.

“Sir is there someone we can call to come get you?” one of the nurses asked Gerard who was still standing at the door to the emergency ward.

“I need to talk to my brother,” Gerard muttered letting the nurse guide him to the waiting room.

“Can you give me the number and I can inform him…”

Gerard interrupted her. “No just tell him to come to the hospital.”

“Okay, sir do you have the number?” the nurse asked. Gerard fished through his pocket for a piece of paper with the number on it.

“Can you ask him to bring the rest of the guys with him please,” Gerard said handing her the piece of paper. As the nurse walked away, Gerard leaned back in the hard hospital chairs and tried to will away the tears that were building up. But he was fighting a losing battle; slowly the tears began to fall. After an immeasurable amount of time Mikey, Bob, Frank and Ray all arrived being accompanied by a nurse with what seemed to be patient information forms.

“Gerard, what happened?” Mikey asked sitting down next to Gerard not seeming to notice the tears. Gerard couldn't answer he just leaned against Mikey and continued to let the tears fall. The rest of the guys found seats around the waiting room; Frank began playing with the children's toys, Bob sat with Frank to make sure he didn't make to much noise and Ray-after accepting the patient information forms-sat in the seat opposite the door and began filling them out, only knowing that it was Shay injured. No one spoke; no one knew what to say. Every time they heard someone walk past they all lifted their heads hoping the doctor would walk in and tell them it would be okay.

“Mikey?” Gerard asked sitting up, his tears seeming to have run out.

“Yeah Gerard?” Mikey replied looking at his brother. None of the guys really understood what had happened they just knew Gerard had found Shay injured.

“I found Shay in her apartment she…her place was a mess the only thing not broken was the stereo which was blaring the door was unlocked. Somebody beat her to a pulp and left her for dead.” Gerard mumbled, but the guys understood what he said.

“Excuse us?” someone from asked from the door. They all looked up in hopes it was a doctor telling them Shay would be alight. But it wasn't.

“Yes officer?” Ray asked.

“Which one of you is Gerard?” the older officer asked.

Gerard raised his hand and the officers walked in, pulling some chairs closer to where Gerard and Mikey sat.

“We just need to find out what happened,” the younger officer said. “No need to be alarmed.”

“You don't think Gerard did this?” Mikey burst out.

“Sir, we must ask these things, it's our job to find out what happened.” The older officer explained.

Just as Mikey was about to say some thing else Gerard put his hand on Mikey's and when Mikey looked at him he shook his head gently, effectively silencing him.

“Now sir can you tell us everything that happened?” the older officer asked giving these two a moment to sort out their little problem.

“I went to my friend Shay's place to see her for Christmas, we don't get to see her much so I decided I'd invite her to share Christmas Eve we me and the rest of the band. I tried knocking but all I could hear was the stereo blaring so I tried the door handle it was unlocked, her place was a mess the only thing not broken was the stereo. I turned the stereo off and looked through her apartment hoping I wouldn't find her. I walked past her bedroom and I heard someone call out for help, I opened the door and saw her lying beside her bed, she...” Gerard paused and swallowed hard, it was still haunting to think of Shay the way he had found her. “She was pretty messed up, she asked me to help her, I called the ambulance and yeah that's it.”

“Alright, thank you.” Just as the officer were standing up to leave and doctor entered the room.

“Are you the family of Shay Robertson?” the doctor asked.

“Yeah, is she okay?” Frank asked.

“She's in the ICU for now but she should be fine,” Gerard heard the doctor say this and ran and hugged the doctor weeping for joy.

“Doctor can one of us go see her?” Mikey asked standing up and moving to pry his brother of the doctor.

“I suppose that would be permissible, but only one.” The doctor said.

“Of course.” Mikey replied. The doctor gave them the room number and left the officers had left at some stage thru all this. “Gerard, go see her.” Mikey said pushing Gerard towards the door.

“No…I…I can't…I can't see her like that again.” Gerard said moving away from the door.

“Gerard you need to see her,” Frank said from the corner.

“I can't, you don't understand, I saw what she looked like when I found her. She was messed up so bad I almost didn't recognise her.” Gerard explained his whole body shaking.

“Then you need to see her now to reassure yourself she's okay, so go and stop fighting us.” Bob said looking as if he was about to cry. Frank got up and sat next to Bob and lightly wrapped his arm around Bob's shoulder. Frank knew Bob liked Shay and that saying Gerard should be the only one to go and see her hurt him.

Gerard turned around and slowly began walking to the ICU he found her room and just stood outside the door gathering himself to see her again. When he opened the door the smell of antiseptic washed over him. He slowly entered the room and quietly closed the door behind him. He made his way over to the curtain that was now all that separated him and Shay. He moved closer and pulled the curtains back. Shay was lying in the bed still black and blue but no longer covered in blood. She was hooked up to about eight machines, ones that breathed for her ones the monitored her heart and ones Gerard didn't know what were for.

Gerard made his way over to Shays bed and pulled up a seat to her bed and sat, he gently started stroking the back of her fingertips.

Gerard must have fallen asleep at some stage because he was woken by a nurse.

“Excuse me sir, but visiting hours are over.” She said gently and quietly.

“Okay,” Gerard said sleepily standing.
