The Calour Letters
By Gareth J. Letheby
It still seems surreal somehow when I think about it. Only a week ago Skyriem was a city full of
life. Over ten thousand people just wiped from existence. And now there's just a
black, seared nuclear wasteland stretching all along the gulf. The only thing I can think of is that
one of the rebels in the Skyriem group must have been a traitor. Otherwise, how could they have
known to strike Skyriem first? Well, the traitor must be dead now. I shudder to think that it could
have been here in Calour, or even Tellys. It's just as well that informant of yours
was able to give us warning, or the whole south coast might have been taken. Speaking of the south
coast, have you heard from Dilmar or Fallis yet? They command the rebel groups in the two
cities closest to Tellys, and you're going to need their help if you're going to try and end the
occupation there. We've only got twelve rebels here in Calour, and we are still in disarray because
of how quickly the invasion occurred, but some of the other north coast rebels have made contact,
and they have offered their aid to help free Calour sometime in the next week. Unfortunately that
means that the Nerans will be able to embed themselves fairly solidly in to the city by then. We can
only pray that they don't unleash the same weapons on us that they used on Skyriem once they realise
we intend to strike back.
You'd best put Skyriem from your mind if you are preparing to retake Calour. As to Dilmar and
Fallis, there is still a large amount of division among the south coast rebels, even though we are
allied in principal. Dilmar and Fallis are still at odds, and it is likely that if one of them sends
rebels to aid me, the other will not. There is some hope in receiving help from Lynn though. You
heard her stronghold was only just missed by the bombardment? She has already dispatched ten rebels
to us. If we are lucky they should arrive tomorrow evening. I wonder about the possibility of
a traitor. If there is one, I doubt they would have been planted in the Skyriem group. There would
be no sense in the Nerans severing their only contact with the rebels the moment they invaded.
I still think of the time we spent together in Nera all those years ago. How can it have come to
this? Opposite ends of the land and preparing for a rebellion we have little hope of winning. We're
outnumbered by at least twenty to one in Tellys alone. Tonight we are going to try and capture one
of their inbound weapons shipments.
My mind is still numbed by all the destruction and death. I know the events occurred, but I have
no memory anymore of the time I spent with you. Perhaps what came between us is best left forgotten.
There is no place for it in this new world of ours.
I'm beginning to wonder if maybe one of us has the traitor in our own city, Calour or Tellys.
They are the next biggest cities after Skyriem, and the centres of all the intelligence
passed through the rebellion. Two of my own men were killed today scouting the Neran command post
last night. In an ambush. They shot the men's bodies even when they lay dead on the
Tys and Marsden should be arriving in the next day or so, then we'll drive the bastards from
I don't like the sound of that at all. If you are right, everything we have set in motion will be
ruined tomorrow. We are moving in on the Neran command post tomorrow at dusk. Most of the general
populous are closeted in their homes, so hopefully they won't realise what is happening until the
city is back under our control. Dilmar's people arrived yesterday, and Lynn's a couple of days ago.
That's why I didn't get back to you sooner; I've been integrating them in to our unit as best I can.
If all goes well tomorrow, we'll be able to send men to help you in Calour within the week.
The whole thing was a ruse! The Neran command centre was abandoned, and when our rebels entered
they were ambushed and slaughtered by Neran forces. They must have been hiding in the nearby
warehouses, waiting for the rebels to go in. Luckily I and five others were late arriving. We heard
the gunshots and the screaming before we saw anything. I wish we had turned back. It was too late,
by the time we arrived they were all dead, all fifty rebels we sent in. I'm taking the survivors
north as soon as I've sent this. I can only hope the Nerans don't follow us.
We were right, there must have been a traitor for them to have organised such an effective ambush
so quickly. Keep on heading north, and transmit your location once you're clear of Tellys. We'll
come and get you.
Commander T.T. West of the Neran Invasion Forces, Day 29
We were successful. The information Bradwyn sent me was invaluable. We have ended the
insurrection in Tellys, and we managed to intercept Bradwyn and the survivors of his rebel force.
The survivors offered little resistance. All but one were killed in a skirmish which saw
Bradwyn captured. I was able to force the names and locations of all the other rebel leaders before
I killed him. In a matter of days the rebel movement should be squashed, so long as our man Fallis
keeps his end of the bargain and finishes what is left of Dilmar's people.
